Default Houston - 10-11-2004

I spent last week and today taking care of some business that required a 110 mile commute - each way.

So I had no choice but to deplete some ozone, burn loads of fossil fuel and make good use of my Escort 8500 radar detector.. - that allowed for 1 hour 30 minutes door to door...

Works for me.

I would never dare go 100mph (~177kph) in Perth, not really willing to pay what would be a huge fine since the limit here is 100kmk.

The Escort 8500 saved me at least once per day over the weeek.. 3 times in one morning.

I use a relatively simple strategy - 5mph over on devided hiway (without a concrete deviding wall) with oncoming traffic and medium same direction traffic.

20mph over + on a devided hiway (with a concrete deviding wall) and medium same direction traffic - slowing down to pass same direciton traffic in case there is an unmarked car ahead... use semi-trucks and big SUV's as cover to run up on traffic.

120 to 140mph + on devided hiways (with concrete deviding walls) and light traffic.

Never crest a hill at more than 5mph over the limit... (you are easy prey for this one) - and use valleys/dips/bridges to cover running up to 140mph+ when in the radar "valley".

ALWAYS take note of radar blips - as they normally indicate a trooper working traffic ahead... the Escort 8500 picks signals up as far as 2 miles away... and when covering ground at 140mph thats good... cobsidering you gobble distance at the rate of 30 seconds per mile...

When a faster car comes up behind - let them pas and get about 1/8 mile ahead and be the "rabbit'..

Know the roads you travel on - and if it "feels right" to slow down... do it.. This instinct has saved me many times as I run up on an unmarked car...

I think the Vette is one of the most fuel efficient sports cars around - you might get 25 mpg when cruising about at 70 mph (of course RC wont know what i mean )

I think the 4 mpg must be because he was in the hard acceleration mode - i mean the Vette must be in third/fourth gear.

My S4 is pretty fuel efficient on the highway for a heavy piggie:
- 75 mph on cruise control - 26 mpg+ depending on traffic
- 90 mph on cruise - 21.9 mpg
- 120 mph (definitely not on cruise) - 15 mpg (approximate)

Of course I am refering to the US gallon here (3.75 l)
