It was arguably the most boring drive I've ever done, taking I10 from Houston to LA. Absolutely horrible. Worst part was that we were in his 330i which was misfiring the whole time. I could not use full throttle because it would dump fuel and slow down, and I could feel it when the 5th cylinder actually kicked in, otherwise we were running on ~4 average (out of 6).

We ditched the car in LA at his friend's house and borrowed a Z4 to finish the job (another hour wasted transferring gear).

Suffice to say, that got the cross-country trip bug out of my system. Then again, perhaps if we had chosen a more scenic route...

Welcome back Dan.. I did almost the same trip as you ... fortunately my car was firing on all cylinders. Agree that it is easily one the most boring featureless drives one can take. But it is a great place to do a top speed run - especially between the dead stretch between San Antonio to El Paso.

You could have have Vmaxxed your Maranello here

and how fast were you going? you couldn't have gone 1,000 miles in 8 hours. it took me 12 hours to get from Seattle to Sacramento doing about 70MPH. And thats around 750miles. it took me 13 hours to clear AZ and NM together. so explain how you averaged your high speed for 8 hours

Hmm. I can see the americans/canadians winning this one.

Longest trip in the US spring 2004 - Fort Worth TX to Colorado Springs CO non-stop but had a second driver. 703 miles in about 10.5 hours, Z3 3.0i. Hit speed limiter (130mph) on a very empty highway in NW Texas.

Longest trip in Europe - autumn 1997 - Wien (Vienna), AT to Haarlem, NL while working as a technical sales rep. Abiout 750 miles - Driving alone, pedal to the floor through Germany, about 11 hours, Rover 220SDi (105hp Turbo Diesel). I saw 130mph on the speedo in Germany however I believe it must have been 115mph max as the car just won't go that fast.

From Grimstad, Norway to Söll in Austria Around 1500km Me and my friends drive it each year to snowboard in the alps. It's a great trip we look forward to each year. 1200km on the german autobahn is a dream compared to what we drive here in Norway

my longest trip is from Zürich (CH) to Rome (I) which is about 1100km in one day, took us about 12hours (stopped for food and gas)

in the USA, I once drove from Seattle to San Francisco in two days, don't remember the exact distance (some help fro the US boys ?), each daytrip was about 9 hours, very nice scenery along the coast...

The longest I've ever driven with only stopping for gas and fuel was a bit over 1000 km, from GTA to Chicago. It was over 10 hours of straight driving.

My longest trip where I was driving about 40% of the time was last summer from Belgium to the North of Italy. I think it was some 1250km and I drove about 500 of it.

Before we once went to Toscany, but I couldn't drive yet and that was some 1600km. My dad had just lost his licence because he had driven 172km/h where you can go 120. And she had to drive all the trip herself. We did it in 2 days however. 1100 the first day, 500km the next. So I can say my mom is a pretty good driver 8)

I loved driving through Germany, especially on the autobahn with just two lines. With 3 you allways have one for the really fast cars, one for the trucks and one for normal cruising speeds (in Germany that's 140-160). With 2 lane autobahns you have to switch lanes a lot and accelerate and brake a lot. For me that makes it much more interesting. I was usually drove about 155 km/h. Some of the more quiet parts with 3 lanes 170km/h. But that's really the max safe speed in a heavily loaded car with 5 people. My dad has an Opel Omega, no M5 you know

longest road trip in a car was from Toronto to Halifax, but we stopped over night twice, it was the whole family, so if it was up to me and my dad we would drive more, but three women slow down the process considerably. longest trip in one day would be toronto to london and back. 4 hours not much compared to you guys!
