It just boggles my mind that they would spend all their money redesigning every show room instead of making quality cars

The question is would people who cannot afford to buy expensive cars or an Apple Computer appreciate pleasant selling spaces? You have to taylor your selling spaces according to your clientel. I cant imagine McDonald's to have table reservations & waiters in their stores or perspective Maybach clientel going to an open air parking lot with some fella with a cowboy hat, boots & cigar selling a 57 or 62 to them on installment.

Maybe Saturn's trying to upmarket their cars though the key to getting market share is excellent customer experience. If the product's crap it's crap whether you put glass stairs or glass lifts in the store.

Yeah I actually think that is REALLY FUNNY! Because they now are just intel chips Apple comes out with "BootCamp" so people can run XP.

That means there could be a version of "Boot Camp" that would let people with PCs run OSX. But who on earth with a PC would want to run OSX?! LMAO thats why you dont see it

Bootcamp's suppose to allow those who cannot live without Windows XP to "have their cake & eat it too" It's a great thing if you need to play games and use AutoCADD. I heard Windows/Linux/etc run virtualized in the next version of OS X.

I managed to get OS X running on my cobbled together P4-3.2GHz machine but the drivers wasnt there for 90% of my devices so I deleted it. I wouldn't do it again cause it would be like maintaining two copies of Windows XP.

I feel sorry for the fella who started this thread.

Maybe you just didn’t have the new version of OSX that ships with the Intel apples? Do Apples support USB2 yet or are they still clinging to that firewire crap only?

Yeah I can not think of one single reason I would ever want to run OSX on any of my PCs.

Any why would you buy an apple that is now just a really expensive PC? I build all my own PCs with Lain Li cases, etc anyway. So again why would I want to pay more for there cheesy looking hardware?

I was using the latest release at the time. It didnt have drivers for the nvidia video card so the graphics was VESA software accelerated w/ headache inducing refresh rarte, ddnt have drivers for audio (had to edit the ktext to get it to work), no ethernet driver, no firewire, no wifi driver... that's all i can recall now. I'm sure some of the driver problems are resolved by now but if it is not 100% functioning why bother. Judging from your statement your Apple know-how is 3-4 years out of date.

the price premium for apple hardware is a mere 10% which would've went to software to secure windows anyways. being able to configure your computer to your liking is a good thing but sometimes you just want something that doesnt give you headaches.

OS X's memory management puts windows to shame. Closest you can get to it is Linux, but Linux is desperately awful when it comes to installing new hardware or connecting to peripheral devices. It really is just best left to servers and such.

Mac's OS maintains Window's hardware friendliness (sometimes even betters it), and still manages to run using comparatively little memory (for an OS), virtual or not.

Windows (in the current guise) is really just too sloppy. I wasn't that convinced with Mac's before as well, but I've had regular access to a few recently, and there really is a startling difference.

I'm not saying windows is completely useless. It's still the OS with the most 3rd party support. Thing is, I design for a living, and I need a package that can properly run large programs simultaneously (Illustrator + Photoshop + Dreamweaver + Flash all at once, sometimes I even need to throw Maya in that mix), while still maintaining a large archive of files for easy access and reference; and at the moment, the best way to achieve this is by getting a really good Mac.

You should try it really. No point in just not trying just because it's a Mac.

Lies lies you spew lies! Apple only sells Macs with Intel's high end Core chips that's why they're pricey. Compare em with PCs with near identical specifications and physical dimension and weight then it comes out that MAcs are about 10% more than PC. Thing is you dont need to buy a license for an antivirus scan or a firewall or other crap.

Linux is mature as a server/workstation. Forget about it being a desktop OS. i'm sure some geek uses it as a desktop but ask granny to use it and expect her to be calling you 25/8.

XP has all the firewall, antivirus, spyware stuff built in to and has for a few years. It comes with it, you dont need to buy anything. The firewall has been part of XP since SP2 and the new virus stuff is part of SP3 i believe. Anyway who wants to use the bundeled versions of that stuff anyway? On XP or apple? First thing I do when I install XP is turn all that crap off.

And from what I can tell Apples are still WAY more expensive. The top of the line G5 that costs $3,299 only comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 6600?!?!? That like a $50 card now!! How can apple call themselves king of multi-media and sell their top computer with such an out of date video card?? I have a 6800GT and its almost a year old now!

Some of the other specs are - only 512MB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200) and a tiny 250GB Serial ATA hard drive?!?!? And that cost $3,300?!? That is such a rip off I cant even believe it! Thats like 100% more than it would cost to build the same thing.

And you will say its that price because of the "Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors"

But why would you want such a fast processor hooked to such a crappy video card and small ammount of RAM? So you upgrade the video card, RAM, and HD and now your Apple is costing over 4k!
Plus that price does NOT include one of Apples LCDs. Add one of those and now you are up to 5k or more!
