that not true, your friend was unlucky and he find bad car,
im sure M cars are not bulletproof, but are still average comparing to other brands,
bmw is gigant company, and M cars are contructed for action on roads,
look how many old bimmers are on roads
I'll agree with you on some of that. My friend's car was pretty bad, and I hear that E46 M3's are pretty unreliable and have had alot of big recalls put on them. I also read in edmunds that there have been some reliability issues with E36s... but it was all or nothing - what i mean by that is either the car was awful or perfect - and it seemed to be the minority of owners.

One thing that I don't like about those things is that you pay out of the nose for them. I wanted to get an E36 M3, but those were significantly more expensive than the LS's because of supply and demand.

Hey hey, that was just a quote from my friend. Who actually owns one of those things. They still are nice cars though, I love em. I'd lease one, but never own.

I was faced on the same situation as you. I managed to squirt out 39k out from my father even though he said no more than 35k. I tried several cars and well, I went for the G35. If you, like me, plan on having it for a long time, get a new car. Owning a NEW car is always best than a used. I rather mary a good looking virgin than a slut supermodel. If you want it for a while.. then go for a used one. M3 used is always a good choice. You might want to try out the upcomming new Lexus IS. G35 is sports luxury as is the IS300. Wait for the new 3 series too and drive these three and choose 1.

It' pretty well known that late model M3's are not that beefy - adn are pretty easy to destroy - even when exposed to "light" abuse.

*COUGH*BULLSHIT*COUGH*

We've got a bunch of M3's that regularly get the dog snot driven out of them and not one has developed a problem.

I challenge you to show me one M3 that gave up AFTER having it's rod bearings correctly replaced. I really don't know where this misconception that the powertrain is weak, but it is honestly a pile of crap claim

Ive seen M3s abused to hell, and havent seen them destroy themselves. Yes it is true the first models had some issues with the engine but that was corrected.

Give me an late model M3 for an hour... you will have to send a flat bed to come pick it up afterwards.

It will be at the side of the road, puking up coolant and having suffered aweful valve float from a good couple visits to the red line, will nead a new top end - and the clutch will be completely knackered.

Trust me - I have done it before, and will do it again with pleasure...

Back on topic, this $35,000 can be spent on any of 20 vehicles from new, to late 80's.

My dad has an E46 M3 and hes had no problems at all. We've been out and thrashed it, no problems. So I think your wrong about it being on the side of the road!!

^ unless of course, you stay on 1st gear redlining it. If your intention is to destroy a car, yeah that can be done with any car. M3's however, are very durable IMO.

This coming from some one who has had to replace their bullet proff engine.

Brembo is just upset because the snow is beggining to melt and his AWD is useless.

The engine didn't die - it just used a lot of oil

RC there is not a god damn thing wrong with the M3 and you know it. The engine can handle the abuse it's given because it was built for it. id love to see this proof that you destroyed one with "light" abuse as you so put it.

I am sure you just love to believe the BMW's engine's are complete shit simply because they have a better power/liter rating than your plastic tobaggan
