Good reputaiton? you mean like american vehicle's reputations for; poor fuel economy, boat like handling, large mass, sluggish performance, unrealiblity, shoddy workmanship and flawed to even dangerous design?
Bah just another arm chair opinion based on another's opinion. Its obvious you dislike "Jap" vehicles, thats fine but back it up some real experinces in future please. Its obvious your pretty ignorant of these class of vehicles, weak preformance, WTF are you talking about anyway when you admit the following?!

[sarcasm]I can vouch for how wonderful F_ord is. I so love my old F_ord E_scape.[/sarcasm] It consumes so much gas and has dismal power. Makes a 5 year old CR-V look like a pocket rocket.

Not really mate.
If am going by owner opinion and comments posted. If they are lying then so be it, but from I have heard speakign to owners at meets Mistu and Subaru will deny warranty repair if they even suspect you have had the car at a track day - yet in the US provide an SCCA membership as part of the ownership package.
Perhaps I have been dupped by over-zealous lying scubi owners.. but I doubt it...

I'm no expert on the reliability issue so I won't give any comment about that.
But I must say those EVO's are starting to bore me. Yes it's nice that they are this technologically advanced an all, but common it's time to dump a couple technicians and hire an Italian car designer in stead!!!
I don't notice much difference between the EVO 8 & 9. Plz enlighten me what I've missed. There are now 2 round thingies next to the radiator grill & the grill on the bonnet isn't split into 2 parts any more... anything else???

Uhm - car magazine long term tests are quite well controlled and managed. They have been doing them for a long time. And far from racing every day - they get checked out for travel etc.
Then the cost of owning, managing and repairing it is observed over the term of the test.
There are a number of cars in the $35,000 range that seat 4 people and go like a bat out of hell.

Altho I love EVOs, but I gotta agree with you. It is just too little car in that pocket rocket to be living with for daytoday basis. I would prolly go for a 6MT G35 sedan over it. Its abit less performance, but a lot more car and less dollar to maintain.

I have the same opinion.
This car is a really good car, with a lot of technology, and really fun to drive, but the design is everything but agressive. It looks like a normal Lancer tuned with bad materials.
Maybe because of that, here in Portugal, I see a lot of Impreza's STi compared to Evo's. I think I've only seen two Evo 8.
If I wanted to bought one of those cars I probably would chose the STi. I know that the Scooby isn't as fast as the Evo but it looks much better, and that's really important.

Thats better! Thanks for the links
Yeah I remeber reading the warrenty carefully and yeah racing voids the warrenty. As does buying the car from auctions, which I did but I didn't tell them There where one or two small warrenty items they found and fixed it no problem and no charge.
Here it isn't faults with cars but about disclosure, simply don't tell them you go to the track!!! And don't write your VIN on entry forms!!!
I think with every other car manufacture, if you said you raced your car, the warrenty will be void, I know it's with the Manro (GTO) here too.
for 15 years of Subaru's only, and include the Forester, Impreza, Legacy, and Outback model lines. those break bown stats are impressive. The worst being
# Other Powertrain Items
# Bad wheel bearing (27)
If you buy a Subaru, its been noted that the wheels need balence and aligment after you buy it, it probally explains the "crappy" bearings.
Once again about disclosure, simply don't tell them you go to the track!!!

Now this is intresting, lesson is don't be honest to car salesmen!! Its sucks though, poor guys seems nice and he gets this.
Mitsubishi is voiding motor and drive train warranties including transmission for any cars that participate in an Sports Car of America (SCCA) event or any other timed event.
It seems that Mitsubishi has set up an automatic web search that looks for registration and results information for any Mitsubishi. They then capture the race results information, match it to vehicle purchase and service records and proactively put the car on "warranty restriction". Those of you with new cars, may want to not list the actual car make or use a screen name.
I bought this car for my son about 2 months ago. The voiding of the motor and drive train warranty is especially puzzling to me as I was completely open with the dealer that sold the car to me, that I was going to allow my son to participate in SCCA events -- even invited the sales person and his manager to come for a ride along. Was the dealer's response to tell me that this would void the warranty on the new car? Nope. His response was "...what a cool way to keep your son from getting in trouble on the streets."
Sure would have appreciated knowing that parking lots and cones would void the warranty on the Evo. I guess although the car is "race inspired", Mitsubishi considers chasing cones at 25 to 60 mph in parking lot to be too much for their "embodying everything a performance enthusiast looks for in a car" model.
__________________________________________________ __________
This is what else he had to say when asked about what the dealer told him about the warranty.
__________________________________________________ _________
...(We were told we were on)...
!!! WARRANTY RESTRICTION !!!
When I asked the dealer why, the response was because of participation in SCCA event. I spent 6+ hours this week on hold and talking with various people at Mitsubishi. This morning I spoke with the District Service Manager for Mitsubishi Motors. He gave me the same answer -- warranty restriction due to participating in the Utah Region SCCA event on 16-May. He even mentioned that he had a copy of the web based time sheet / results with my son's name on it with the car model and color.
In clarifying with them what warranty restriction means, here's what I was told:
- No motor, transmission or drive train issues will be covered by warranty
- Even if I have Mitsubishi do repairs on the motor, they will not re-warranty
A five year 36,000 mile warranty up in smoke for participating in ONE SCCA event.

that because the evo 7, 8, and 9 share the same body shell...based on the lancer cedia. But the coming Evo X will be much more different design, and maybe this time they hire Italian car design...just maybe...
From the exterior, its not much different from the 8, the difference the same as you stated above...but from what I found, the JDM evo 9 will have more sexy rear compared to this USDM, and for the USDM the BBS rims comes standard with the car, but the JDM still using the enkei...
-the JDM:
-the USDM:
about that mitsu warranty, thats really sucks...IMO this car is a road version of rally car, then this car is a racing car. so why you couldn't take your racing car for a little racing? thats absurd...I think mitsu dealership should think again about this warranty..

Mitsu's design chief responsible for the last 3 Evo was Frenchman Oliver Boulay. I think he retired when MB pulled out of Mitsu.
Scroll up to my second post on this thread for subtle differences. Essentially the new IX is just a USDM VIII with a new bumper & vortex generators.
When Jap or Euro cars get to the US they tend to "soften" it a bit to get it to comply to US laws and body sizes.

Whats worse is that Mitsu has been denying warrantied pre-emptively. I've read numerous threads on Evo foums were people had their warranty claims denied without the car even being looked at.
The latest of which was a broken seat. The Evo 8 Recaros have a plastic back, it broke. Mitsu called it a wear and tear item and denied replacement. $1700 to replace it!!!!
Evo's are blowing transfer cases left and right, many times Mitsu has called it abuse and denied claims. Even though it's known that many Evo's came from the factory improperly shimmed. All the more reason to get an MR with the LSD.
They are just as bad when a car is modded. They seem to think the Moss Magnuson ACT doesn't apply to them. For those that didn't know, the Moss Magusun ACT says that warranty work can't be denied if the mod wasn't what caused the problem.
Mitsubishi's CEO in Japan was arrested not too long ago for covering up reliability reports and denying warranties.
I'm still interested in an Evo, but I would not buy one new, since the warranty is useless. I'd get a used one with low mileage.
All this from a company that claims to have the best backed cars in the world.
As for the Evo IX, I like it. I'd buy a brand new one, if I didn't care about money.

i think, mitsubishi has too much tecnitions instead of tecnician, they should find some designers.

I'd rather drive a qudi quattro than a car which is driven by a computer and the driver having 2 rely on the computer to sort out his mistakes
