the new EVO IX looks very similiar to EVO 8...especially the rear. but this EVO IX will be using more enhanced 4G63 engine... the MIVEC technology... 8) some article I found about the engine

FYI that's the USDM model

hum, what's the difference the USDM and the JDM? from what I know, both of the models using the same mivec engine...

what about 0-100 times?

The long term magazine test EVO 8 didn't hold up very well after 40,000 hard charging miles - as they wring more power out of the same motor, they seem to be making it weaker and weaker.

And Mistu is already notorious for not honouring warranty work - makes one apprehensive to buy one.

It's a turbo that's why it wouldnt last that long on miles of hard charging drives.

Back to the bumper: They had to retain the VIII bumper to comply with US road safety laws. The new JDM bumper couldnt accomodate the crash bar.

It could have finally got some more significant power bump and neither the styling has changed much hence it doesn't really excite me. :|

Then it's really not that good when compared against the other offerings in the same price/performance range. :)

I just love Evo's so news on the new upcoming one is great. I think it looks "ok" I think its gone under the least amount of change from what they usually go through with new models. Still I think I'd rather have a STI, and out of the Evo's I'd have a 7. Dunno why but there you go.

RC45: The reviewer probably doesnt know how to take care of an Evo. It also could be that his bad experience is a fluke. I know of only one car in the same category as the Evo and that's the STi. If the damage done to the car is caused by abuse on the part of the driver then I dont see why Mitsu shouldnt honor the warranty.

Uhm - car magazine long term tests are quite well controlled and managed. They have been doing them for a long time. And far from racing every day - they get checked out for travel etc.

Then the cost of owning, managing and repairing it is observed over the term of the test.

There are a number of cars in the $35,000 range that seat 4 people and go like a bat out of hell.

All I am getting at is that as a second or third car, or a college kids run about these hot sedans are ok - but when subjected to real mileage and use over extended distance they tend to not have a good reputaiton other than at the autox and track days.

And more so Mistu and Subaru have been denying warranties left and right when they do fail.

Sure it's a nice hot car - but for the price and performance it is rather weak. And this is even true for non-MR detuned versions.

Again, nice car - not starting a fight - I just wish they werer more robust and reliable.

R&T has a rather favorable long term report on the '03 Evo (exact same model I have). The writer did acknowledge the horror stories reported by other owners similar to what car magazine experienced in their long term test.

In contrast, R&T's 50,000 mile test they only experienced minor problems. Pls name cars other than the STi that have four doors, can sit 4-5, a big trunk and similar to the Evo for under $31,000.

As long as the Evo is more reliable than a Mercedes-Benz am happy. :)

Anyone find last 2 EVO's amysingly boring? I mean design? The nicest was imo EVO VI.
And making 3rd EVO same as 2 previous :roll:

I think the body types are similar in every 3 generation of Evos. The IX would probably be the last one similar to the VII & VIII. Evo IV-VI shared similar body as well. Same goes with I-III.

This is my personal bias but I hate the idea that an econobox Lancer with a simple body kit would duplicate the look of an Evo. I know the Evo is a souped up econobox but come on! Sure they'll have to dump lotsa money to work on improving the performance and the crashworthiness of the body but having a ratty & smelly taxi cab easily look like an old Evo sucks. Now though the last 3 generations makes it harder and more expensive to have the look. That was a reason why I was thinking of getting an STi.
