Well... That would be a DSM Talon. A boost controller, 3" exhaust, maybe increase the boost, and there you are.

I doubt that will fill the bill, 4G63s aren't that quick for that little modifications.

Since you live in Australia, why not go for a Holden Commodore?

I know u are not looking at a car that will just do a straight line but just for the record, I think TopGear did the test. And old Jaguar + NOS will beat the Porsche Turbo. and the turbo is a 12 second car.

A Mustang 5.0 is the cheapest in the states. you can pick one up for about 1500-2500 bucks, gears and intake eqaul hgih 13s low 14s, a few internals and you got 12s. now if u really wanna go fast turbo out a Mustang GT or a F-Body LT1, american cars respond extremely well to turbos.

Throw on some 4.10 gears, Drag Radials (still street legal), and put $7-10gs into the engine (Heads, Cam, Intake, Internals, Supercharger, maybe NOS), and you will be able to run 12s very easily. Plus parts for them are readily available for them so you can usually pick them up cheap.

Many cars will: third gen camaros, mustangs, ect.

The most rediculous thing I have ever seen?.. a sub 10 second pinto that cost 9000 dollars. It ate engines every few runs.. but still.

Break down of some options.
stock late 80s camaro 350 l98- cost 1500 dollars
stock quarter 14.6 sec

parts options:
ls1 engine and t56 transmission- instant 12s.. cost 4000+ instalation.

turbo + modified internals- cost 2500- 12s

bore and stroke the engine.. 12secs yet again.. 383.. price will vary but prolly the cheapest.

A lt1 camaro firebird or 90s mustang gt is fast, but honestly you can do better per cash with a 80s version of either.

I would also suggest an old 240z.

I would not suggest any fwd car. To get 12s your generally looking at more..
Why?

Well frankly there are a million of those cars out there i suggested, they have the largest aftermarket community of any other cars on the market, they are fairly fast and reliable stock, they dont have the fundamental flaws of alot of these fwd cars.

And when the quesiton is "cheapest" - does that mean cheapest TOTAL price for car and mods, or just mods - or just car? And private party cost? Or dealer "in house" cost?

The overall cost is what I am after.
And yeah..the Holden Commodore is pretty good, but i cant stand it! Everyone, their dog, and their dogs pups owns one of those.

Well im not sure what pollution regulations, if any, you have there. Here, if the car was made pre-1974 (i think its up to 74 now but im not sure) you dont have to worry about smog and shit like that. My answer would be any classic American muscle car that came with a V8. Its very easy and cheap (at least here anyway) to make those cars run 12s and lower.

dont call me wrong u bogan. u can import r32 gtr's from japan using the 15 year rule and get them on the road for less than 16k and they will chop any wogadore in a straight line and the corners

and if u want to do 12's the cheapest way is to get a old rx3/808 or rx7 or r100 and chuck in a 13b turbo from a series 4/5 rx7, with microtech a front mount and a bigger turbo you will do 12's for under 10 grand total

Whilst an R500 is expensive (new) you can buy a used caterham in the uk from about £7k.. lots of engine and tuning options
