Default new Mustang GT tested

Not bad performance numbers for a GT (esp. compared to the GT500), but man is that suspension set-up soft .

Looks very softly set-up judging by the way it dives under braking and rolls thru the bends, but very impressive figures....I actually liked the colour too

A relatively soft setup like that can actually pay dividends in the real world, and a simple $1000 shock upgrade can all but cure that for track day use.

Totally agree, the base car seems good enough (i.e. judging from the vid it seems to be driven from the rear which is what I personaly prefer on a "road" car rather than full on corner-like-its-on rails)....but you must admit that the diving under braking looks pretty severe!

Nth: What's A-plan?

The Mustang has always suffered from that, especially the newer gen gars, they are so tall and boxy that without some lowering and stiffening up they nose dive like a mofo.. even the Rouche car I drove with street shock was like a land yacht under breaking. Seems thats the price you pay to save pedestrians by way of big bulbous noses on the car.

A-plan is the 'employee pricing' deal from Ford. While a family member was laid off a while ago, part of the lay off package was lifetime A-plan to keep us buying Ford cars.

When you say "keep us" buy Ford cars... how do they make sure you are buying it - and not say... someone else... *hint* *hint* ??

I think 'friends' get the same, or similar pricing. I'll look into it. At the very least, I can get you into a no-haggle price that is lower than MSRP, or a lower lease than the dealer will want you in. They have no say in the matter

Yeah, even back in the eighties, Motorweek would refer to it as 'typical Ford nose dive under braking'. It's almost like their signature or something. Pretty much every Ford does this, except of course for the Ford GT .

Shocks and lowering springs would go a long way to fixing this. However, if this car still has a solid axle at the back, be careful putting those 400+ ponies down, when exiting a bumpy corner .

This Edmund's test result is not quite as complimentary (and check out the brake dive on this one - look for scrap marks ):

Conditions of both tests vary. That said, I've always disliked how much dive the Mustang has. They have engineered a solution; but higher ups refuse to implement it due to the additional cost. It's a pretty similar solution as to how BMW reduced dive with their McPhereson Strut design.

A well driven 2011 GT would give an average driven stock 2001 C5 Z06 a run for its money around town LOL

That's what 10 years R&D will do for you.
