Is that because racing isn't allowed at those events?

Most track days I've been to prohibit drivers from passing in corners. Some beginner ones only allow passing on straights with the consent from the driver in front.

Nothing like the video where cars are almost racing....(since insurance is off the picture, if you want to damage your car, go ahead, but don't make me crash mine).

Pretty much, because even if it is an open Friday session for a coming weekend race series, the race cars on track want you to stay out of their way and not be the cause of any incidents, as this is not the race venue, just test/tune/practice/warmup and the real prize is gained during the race.

As you can see below, we often mixed it up with much faster race cars on track, and it's accepted that you don't race amongst yourselves to the point you get all tangled up - leave that for the wheel to wheel race day. Perhaps it's diff. in Europe

It is different based on most of the clips I've seen. Anyone remember the clip where the Lotus Elise repeatedely diced it with the F40 (see below)?? There are many more were this came from.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be prepared to take my car to an event like this. It is just my undersatnding that there are many events like this in Europe, Asia, etc. especially at at the F1 (and former) circuits like Monza, Spa, Donington, Hockenheim, etc.

Here are just a few examples:

The events would propably billed as no holds barred - I am pretty sure if someone punts someone else though, they will be unwelcome next time round.

There is door handle to door handle dicing in the red groups here as well, but people realise that it is not a race, and there is no prize so why go 11/10ths when 10/10ths will suffuce

Perhaps it's because of the suing culture in the U.S.

I know a couple of UK guys who do track days, where those track events are billed as "no passing in the turns" as well. I think most people don't want to come home with a wreaked car unless it is their own fault. Not litigation so much.

Also, some insurance companies will still insure your car if it's a driving school with no "racing" and no "passing" but still driving to the best of your abilities.

When I did a few laps at the 'ring this summer its 'slower car moves to the right' and you can pass wherever you think is safe. This scared the shit out of me because I was in a 73hp Fiat Punto and I had all sorts of P-cars and aston martins etc. coming up behind at more than double my speed. Plus they expect you to see them and move, if you don't they get awfully close to your back-end in a panic-brake type deal lol. The track days I go to in Canada are more like what you describe where you can only pass on the straights and when signaled.

But remember, the 'Ring is a public toll road, and we all know people drive waaay more dangerously in public than on track hehe
