Contrary to last week's testing, Ferrari dominated the opening practice session on Friday for the Italian Grand Prix.

In sunny and warm conditions Kimi Raikkonen set the pace clocking a 1:22.446 as Ferrari aim for the victory on Sunday and the chance to close the gap to McLaren in the Championships.

Raikkonen's time was set halfway through the session and he managed to hold onto the P1 slot for the remaining 45 minutes.

Felipe Massa came the closest to dethroning the Finn as he best time, a 1:22.590 was just 0.144s off his team-mate's fastest time.

Lewis Hamilton also wasn't far off the pace, finishing just 0.028s behind Massa, while Fernando Alonso was a further 0.222s back.

Alonso, though, missed much of the session after reporting a misfire on his installation laps. He did, however, manage to complete 12 laps before the checkered flag fell.

Nico Rosberg was the best of the rest as he set the fifth best time for Williams, however, he failed to get within a second of Raikkonen's P1 time.

Jenson Button, who has struggled for pace for much of the season, came home with the sixth best time, finishing ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella and Robert Kubica.
