Yeah, Apple doesn't know the display or doesn't have information on that display.
I googled it briefly and couldn't dig up any resolution information for that TV.
Check out http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa maybe you will find something there.

TNT, really?!? The 27" TV has 1080 lines? Wow.
And when you plug in the TV and you go into the Preference window, you do not see the new resolution?

Try either one of these:
SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX
Heard that DisplayConfigX is easier to use though.

I think its related to your progressive / interlaced scan.
I am not sure but I don't think that DVI supports interlaced. But I am just guessing here.

well the thing with DisplayConfigX is you have to pay to be able to keep your settings yet i haven't be able to find where to pay for it and/or how much it is. i will try the other one.

No no, set it to the setting of the resolution on your TV.
Maybe 1280 x 1080? Or 1440 x 1080? Well what options do you have to set it at X by 1080?

Hmm....I think I know what your problem is.
The TV's Res is 1920 X 1080
While the MAC's Res is 1440 X 960.
And if what I think is rite in MAC you must have your MAC at the same res as TV and TV as same RES as MAC, and the MAC cant go up to 1920 so it is trying to do 1440 X 960 and your TV tries to do 1440 X 960 and everything is messed up. But if you put 1280 or 1024 by XXX on the MAC and same RES on TV it kinda looks readable but not perfectly clear.

^ No, that should not be the case though. When you load up System Preferences for Displays, there would be two dialog boxes that comes up. So you could switch resolution independently for each display.
If it is a regular 4:3 aspect ratio TV and you are sure that the vertical lines are 1080, then horizontal should be 1440.
So your TV should be 1440 x 1080, and that will be 4:3.

this is my TV:

What is the "Mirror" option?
I know on all mu NVidoa cards, "mirror" places the same display on both devices at once... the resolutions would be the same and you scroll around the TV if the PC res is higher than the TV supports (CRT TV) or the TV forces the image to display if some type of LCD.
Does the video card have a different option? I don't recall the option on NVidia (havent done this in a while) but there is one where you specify full screen video goes to the "other" diplay and you simply set the 'other display" properties to its maximum spec.
Then maybe ATI just sucks

^ Oh shit. RC45 and PimpRacer is right, I didn't even see that. Turn off Mirror.
The Radeon 9700 has the option of either Mirroring or Displaying independently.
Shit sorry about that TNT, I should've looked at that closer. Yeah PimpRacer got it right in the beginning, you need to turn off mirroring so your resolutions aren't the same.
And set the res on the TV to 1920 x 1080. (It looks like that the Mac recognized it from the start. I just didn't freaking read ops: .)
