well i live in LA, so the reputation of cops here usually certainly precedes them. pretty much nobody respects the police and they often will find any reason they want to pull you over. they definitely put their lives on the line in LA, but they could definitely be nicer.

Pretty true. Ive had some run ins with nice ones but mostly they are jerks. I have noticed though, that they seem to differ depending on their surroundings. When I was going to USC and living in a not so nice area around downtown LA, cops were a lot nicer when they were just dealing with a speeder or a loud party realizing that there were potential threats much greater that they could focus on. In my hometown of Manhattan Beach, cops dont have a whole lot to do so they tend to harass people a little more IMO They dont really have to worry about gang violence in the more affluent areas, so they pick on skateboarders, minor traffic offenders, etc.
