Default Whats the opinion on road police in your country?

Whats the opinion on road police in your country?

Are they respected? Are they respected cause they have right to do what they want and taken as dumbf@cks anyway? Or they are good guys and are using theyr authority in a proper way?

In Czech they are more-less respected mostly cause they can give you expensive fine so they are generally taken by drivers with disrespect(50/50%). I respect them myself ofcourse I met total di*kheads few times but I respect theyr work, it would not be something I will want to do myself.

My relatives from Ukrain said that there is almost 0 respect to cops by drivers in Ukrain, people dont even stop when they have a faster car if they see a cop trying to pull them over, if they stop the only thing what cops want is to get some money from them sometimes they say it directly

How it is in your country?

well, here those corps are more respected and have a better public image.
They don't are very corrupt, or that's what we think.
But of course they are a pain in the ass when you have a suspicious look, towing something, or simply drive a pick-up truck with stuff

can compare to UK police... uhmm Czech/UK police is like black/white - UK police officers have (I would say) 99% respect because they use their authority properly and by law. always friendly and happy to help and on the other side strict and unforgiving. Czech police? looks like they're looking for the way to fine you on whatever they find on your car (and mostly they take a well care to find something) instead of "teaching" drivers...

Cops are generally ok here. Some can be real a###### but the majority are just doing their job. There is very little to no bribing like you described, just a lot of poorly thought out laws by politicians.. (which are generally thought of as scum)

Cops here are generally fairly nice, although the guy who did my random breath test a couple of weeks ago was a bit of a dickhead. In terms of respect, they are generally fairly upstanding people.

By the way, why are sheriffs in the US elected? Doesn't that compromise impartiality?

well i live in LA, so the reputation of cops here usually certainly precedes them. pretty much nobody respects the police and they often will find any reason they want to pull you over. they definitely put their lives on the line in LA, but they could definitely be nicer.

They aren't everywhere. The reason they are in some states is generally the sheriffs aren't the ones making arrests. They are supposed to be the ones allocating the resources. (budgets, assignments, etc).

Pretty true. Ive had some run ins with nice ones but mostly they are jerks. I have noticed though, that they seem to differ depending on their surroundings. When I was going to USC and living in a not so nice area around downtown LA, cops were a lot nicer when they were just dealing with a speeder or a loud party realizing that there were potential threats much greater that they could focus on. In my hometown of Manhattan Beach, cops dont have a whole lot to do so they tend to harass people a little more IMO They dont really have to worry about gang violence in the more affluent areas, so they pick on skateboarders, minor traffic offenders, etc.

The police are mostly bastards over here who enjoy their work to much...

Then again my neighbour is with the police and he is very friendly and always cooperative, so just hope that you get those policemen in Holland instead of the bastards..

Weird.....Its too easy to set up a blockade, and they do if you run. And your are triple fucked if you run.

And yeah, 80% are major crooks, but its getting better.

Nothing as bad as Russia though....lol anyone remeber those Gumball episodes when they went through Russia, and got an AK stuck in their Merc getting hustled by the cops for money?

trafficcops are generally ok, but the rates of the fines set by the government make you want to kill them if they give you a fine. It is ridiculos expensive, and many acts of violence give a much smaller fines here, than ex, driving 15km over the 80km/h limit. Many traffic cops protested the new fines we got lasat year because they were imbaressed to write such insane fines. You can very easy run a 800+euro fine. Combines with a red light or "duty to yield right-of-way" you're looking at jailtime 15days or 1500euros.
