Peugeot 207 Super 2000 rally car

After a long while of building and tuning, Peugeot has finally decided to unveil its new evil toy for private rally teams. On the picture you can see that the little sports hatchback, based on the latest Peugeot 207, features wider body, rooftop air intake, and top mounted rear wing.

The 207 RCup concept at last March's Geneva Motor Show hinted at what was coming, and now that the initial development phase is complete, Peugeot has decided to show it off and reveal the tech specs. Appearance-wise, it's an aggressive little package, with its wide body, rooftop intake, and top-mounted rear wing. Underhood, there's some giddyup to back up the looks. Powered by a 1998cc four-cylinder, the Super 2000 generates 280 horsepower without the use of any forced induction. A six-speed sequential gearbox sends it to all four wheels. The Super 2000 engine is based on the one found in the company's 206 GTi 180 model, but is tuned to produce an additional 100 ponies. The car is still under development and additional tweaks will likely be made as they perfect its dynamics. Once finalized, privateer teams will be able to purchase and campaign their own 207 Super 2000s. This, incidentally, is why the car's engine does not use turbocharging to generate more power. Super 2000 regulations (we're talking about the rally class, now) prohibit the forced induction systems and other electronic trickery found in the WRC. Doing so makes the cars less expensive to operate and maintain, making the idea of fielding a team far more palatable to individuals looking to get into the game. The new Peugeot 207 Super 2000 has been created to run on both loose and tarmac surfaces. The rally car is still in development and Peugeot says nothing about its possible price

Looks interesting, yet I think the 206 looked more elegant..

They have a similar speed as the group N cars (N4). Teams can also enter a S2000 car in the PWRC championship, so we will probably see some of these at WRC events.

I thought the S2000 rules specifies a maximum selling price of about 200.000 euros, so it won't cost any more than that.

Peugeot and Fiat not the only manufacturer with a S2000. The South African importer of VW and Toyota respectivaly developed the Polo S2000 and the Corolla S2000.

S1600 will still continue as JWRC. See the S2000 as some sort of WRC cars with group N speed. As I said before, the S2000 cars could enter N4 classes which also means the PWRC which is a part of the WRC championship.
