Help me Choose = STi Prodrive or normal WRX

Hey guys...

i know many of you are probably thinking... what the hell is this guy thinking!!!

BUT... i whant to know whats the car that really fits my needs...

yesterday i found 2 Prodrive STI's for sale, one is silver in GREAT condition... but it needs some paint in the hood and front bumper... yesterday i talked to my cousin wich is like a Subaru "expert" since he knows the guys from Subaru Guatemala, the thing is that he told me that this was the first rodrive to come to guatemala and was the one used to test the track for the 2004 Subaru cup and aparently was trashed and the 4 gear was broken during testing... he told me this " well we just have to go and test drive the car, this cr only needed a new "syncro"... i ran through the gears with the car started and nothing bad happened and no strange sounds either...

the other is a STI PPP but its blue this car's price is 23usd against 21 for the silver...

should i get any of this two cars??? or i should stick to my friends WRX??

Insurane is not really a problem since, things for insurance are very diferent from the rest of te world... its probably just like 20 usd more than a normal wrx

the catch here is that if i get a wrx i would have to leave it pretty much stock since the $$$ could be a problem... and the PPP comes with 320hp so i wont need to mod anything...

what would you guys do??

how are the roads in guatamala? After driving an STi for a day, I could hardly stand its rough suspension anymore Ideally for me now, a STi motor + normal WRX suspension would be the way to go... but since you drove it, you know what your getting into i think.

As to reliabiltiy, If it's been broken once, it may break again of course, it was heavily abused on a track... so all may be well if you dont take her to the track. Personally, i'd shoot for the ppp model, or standard WRX.

Shitty roads here... but i would use my moms 2nd car from monday to wednesday, and from thursday to sunday the STI. anyone knows the gas mileage for a 2.0 STI?

This is the part of the question I don't understand. You're saying that there is no pricedifference between the WRX and the blue STI with PPP?

If so, I'd go forthe STI. 6 gears, far superior suspension and differentials.
You'd love the PPP. Downside is that it will make you a lazydriver. You end up driving the car as if it were an automatic.

Stay away from the silver one. It's abused.

As for milage... well in normal use I was able to get 8 km per litre. (On the track only 2 km per litre). There's not much difference between a STI and a WRX. Both are known fuelguzzlers.

So how much more than your friends WRX are these two STi models?

It all depends, for about $5K on performance mods I've got mine up over 400hp which will even make that PPP thingy feel slow.... Obvioulsy you need to spend money on supporting hardware to match the new performance.

I prefer an individual car so I got the WRX and made it into what I wanted, rather than buying an STi and not being able to mod for a while.

True the STi has alot of goodies but how often will you really use it to its full potential? On the road - rarely! Plus as has been said it is stiffer and harsher to drive.

a LOT more! like 5k or something...the problem here is that when selling a car here no one pays for modifications. so a 400hp wrx is worth the same as a base model WRX...

other things is that when it come to modding here... this is as techy as it goes...

1.raise the boost with a controller.
2.exhaust
3.intake.

thats all, no protune no nothing!

there arent any 4wd dynos around so no protune for the WRX the thing that worries me the most is that i would need to spend money after getting the stock wrx and my mom is not going to help me this way and would take too much time for me to get even a cat back...

so with a PPP STi i would leave it there. just some prodrive interior goodies and short shift.

theres no way my mom is helping me with 5k worth of mods. thank god she told me "find something that you like and get it, as long as is not tooo expensive"

i know im a prick, getting a STi at age 20 with mom's money. But im saving on my own so my business can take off, plus next year fg i'll be working at the construction business of the family so i'll be able to pay for the car or at least maintain it and pay for the gas

same thing here, so do what people here do.. unmod it, sell it, and the parts.. i dont think there is 1 unmodded wrx here.. yet on sell they are all "stock engine.. never modded" etc BS..

ok, i made some numbers with my mom. thank god and her i'll be able to pay for the STI. Just have to go on wednesday to have a test drive... take it to a mechanic... talk to my friend that whats to buy my current car and by next week if god wants it ill have my PPP STi

low end torque. No need to shift down. Just press the accelerator and GO.

Mmm. that's debatable. Really depends on the torque curve and the raod type. (dragstrip or twisties)

You'll be using it more often than you think. Yes the STI is more stiff, but it's my opinion that this is not really a problem. Most of the WRX owners I know stiffen up their suspension, because of the softness (using aussie stuff btw from MRT).

When I got my STI the Scooby dealer warned me about the stiff suspension. At the same time I also owned a Mitsi EVO VI. Compared to that the STI is a luxury sedan......
