I crop to 500x200, duplicate layer, apply some levels (50 0 175 I think), gaussian blur 3.0 and set this layer to overlay. I merge it down, I select a rectangle slighty smaller than the picture, enter quick mask mode (Q), apply some brush strokes (filters), exit quick mask mode, and past the resulting image onto my gif base with the writing and stuff

Cool, ill give that a try. Its been a while since I fired up PS, but I have always liked the "softness" of your sigs.
