The "hell week" we went through during 9 months Naval Officers basic training was literally hell, but add the extra dangerous boat and under water work we didnt have to do and I cannot even imagine what that adds to the experience.

We had the sleep deprivation, lack of food, physical team tasks that got progressively more difficult as you got more fatigued, the miles and miles of marching through the mountain, carrying crippled team mates and having to navigate "blind" through the unknown terrain to find your next stock of food and supplies and the next way point.

It really is a character defining time - but these guys have added weapons and superb killing skills thrown in to boot.

Yeah indeed, don't dare cross these guys

(and before we start hearing how the S.A.S./SpesNatz/Rekkies/Mossad/SEALs etc etc are all better - each of these national special forces are chiselled from solid rock and just as good as the other - great well trained fighting machines.. perhaps the entire military should be made up these guys )

I think that once you reach a certain level, as RC says, the differences in skill between these groups is so small as to be immeasurable. My Uncle was in a Special Unit within the SAS and he says that a lot of "Special Forces" from many countries are anything but special, but that the SEALS are the real deal.

Well i remember a show that was on USA, that had Force Recon, SEALs, SWAT, SAS, CIA etc. "fighting" against each other in challenges relating to each ones fields. And believe it or not the SWAT guys were normally doing better then the other teams. Mainly b/c of teamwork and that they are more "active" in training, meaning they are SWAT 24/7, some CIA, SEALs, etc. don't just do Spec Ops.

But any spec. ops. be that law enforcement or military would scare the piss out off me if they for some reason busted down my down. however, no matter what service they are in we own them more then we can ever give them. most respect to all those men and women.

All of the American Spec ops overlap. Each one can do the other's job. The SEAL's do more stuff in the water. Recon does more on land for short missions. Special Forces does more on land for long missions (drop in and do missions continuously).

There are also some lesser known groups. One continually changes its name every few years.
Yeah I believe they are all part of USSOCOM.
