Whatever you do, avoid Dell. Their prices are seductive, but you'll end up spending more time sending it back for repairs than you will actually using it.
I had a Vaio until recently, and it was a wicked machine, but it's so thin and delicate that I shattered the screen by closing the lid too hard.
IBM makes nice ones. Expensive, but good.

Yeah...but he bought it from futureshop, the best buy equivalent of Canada, if he went ahead and got their extended warranty, he can punt it off the top floor of a skyscraper and tell futureshop he "dropped" it, and they'll replace it with a new one no questions asked. They have really soft warranty policies, one of the stronger reasons to buy from them.
My friend did it with a radeon 7500 he bought 2 years ago that was on sale (basically the radeon 9600pro equivalent of fall 2001). He bought it with an extended warranty of 2 years, toughed it out till the warranty was 2 months from expiry, drew a bunch of pencil lines all over the back of it (graphite is conductive if you didn't know), stuck it in a beater computer, fried it, and asked for a new equivalent card . It's wrong, but hey, he got a 9600 pro out of it.

The Ferrari laptop is an Acer. Probably you'll find more info about it on Acer's website.
