fat35 is a way to formatr your hard drive. The incompatiblilllity comes when you put a fat32 drive on a NTSF machine like directly. Over the network, that is a different sotry. So yes, your Win98 machine will b able to communicate with XP. It might take a while for you to configure the networking between those though.
