Default Tranny not shifting good

My truck has a Mazda R-1 5 speed manual tranny in it. It used to shift great and was always happy to speed shift. Lately though it dosent always want to get into first or second gear and when I speed shift it (takes some effort to pass with a 4 banger truck) it sometimes dosent get into the gear and makes a nice grinding noise. It has new fluid in it. Think its just because it has 120k miles on it? The motor still runs like the when it was new except for a bit of power loss from a bad vapor canister tripping the computer. Think it could be the clutch maybe? I checked its level and filled it up.

Well, it could be the synchromeshers, does it make the grinding noise when you downshift? If you said that you have new fluid in it my bet is that the synchromeshers have gone bad on 2d and 3d, or whatever gear you downshift to, if that's the case you have 2 solutions, the expensive one, take out the transmission, take it apart and replace the synchros, the second one, a bit annoying maybe is to do heel and toe downshifting...
Now, i've broken a synchro before downshifting when at the race track for not heel and toeing...and it makes that grinding noise when you shift after it's broken...
hope it helps...
