Question about the Name "Ferrari Enzo"

Hi, Everybody.

I've always had a question about the name of the Ferrari Enzo, but haven't yet been able to figure out the answer to; perhapse you guys can enlighten me on this.

Now, perhapse I shouldn't look at the name of the car so closely, but I just find it weird how they've named a car after their founder, Enzo Ferrari. It will, of course be the most ultimate car that Ferrari has conceived -- to date, but this won't last forever.

Take for example, the F50 -- on the discovery channel special "Fast Cars, The Power and The Passion" (narrated by Jay Leno), The Ferrari boss said that the car is intended to be an F1 car for the road, and that because of the ever tighting legislation, that nothing (even from Ferrari) will be able to surpass such a car.

They've of course, bit their own tounge by releasing the Enzo.

So, eventually, there'll be a car to surpass the Enzo as well... but isn't that sorta like saying that there's going to be something that's better than the founder of Ferrari? more importantly, how would they find a name proper enough for the next ferrari "uber-car"? (Ferrari Lambo, perhapse? )

perhapse its a stupid question to be asking to begin with.

My opinion is that Ferrari will always come up with a car that beats it's predecesor, but that won't mean the Enzo is a lesser car that the next one, sure it's gonna be faster, and more powerfull but the Enzo will still be the best car of it's era...and that will still mean something....don't you think?

Yeah, I guess I will have to agree; and hey, maybe they'll apdot Intel's nomenclature to their products (Enzo 2, Enzo 3, etc.)

He didn't say that they won't be able to surpass the F50, just that such a car could never be made again. what he means, is that regulations won't (and don't) allow to put an F1 engine in a road car ever again.

The engine in the F50 is very similar to the f1 car from back in 1990. the redline was lowered for durability and the displacement went up to 4.7 litres to try and raise the torque for the street.

if they left it too much longer, the name enzo might not be appreciated by as many people.

the F50 engine is a detuned engine from the 89 F1 Ferrari. it is exactly the same in it's configuration, exept it's enlarged to 4.7l from 3.5l, the compression ratio is reduced, and timing and air flow characteristics are altered.

Yes, I knew that, thanks. It's just that you made it sound like they took the engine straight from a F1 car.....
