Default New BMW design style

Well I know it's been out for a while now, but i just wondered what everyone thought about BMW's new design heading. I personally think it is nice, Chris Bangel is certainly controversial, but i think it gives the BM's a bit of recognition in a sea of euro-boxes.

Yeah, I agree... I don't know why people attack it.. BMW needed a change, and they've changed. The I-Drive system on the other hand, completely useless...

Ill thrid that motion, for a long time ive always known that BMW's were very well made luxury cars,BUT thier looks were boring and resembled a box with fancy wheels. New ones are IMO heading in the right direction but still haven't fully crossed over to the "i have to have it look".

I agree. My family has a '97 535i which is very luxurious, and has a hefty turn of speed, but it occasionally looks quite dull, even with the optional 17in wheels. I love the new 5 design, think the 7 series looks good, but undecided on the 6 and it's massive arse. Many people slate it including the holy JC, but i have to disagree.

im still kinda on the fence on the new design. i like it in general but there are a few things i dont like. here is what i think on each of the newly designed cars.

Z4- i like it as a whole better than the Z3.

7-series- probably my least liked out off all the new designes. the trunk is horrid and the overall shape of the car just doesnt appeal to me as a newly designed car should. not to say that the whole car is ugly but i think i still perfer the older 7 series look.

5-series- looks good in general, at first i didnt like it but it has definitly grown on me. i think the reason i didnt like it was it wasnt the evolution i was expecting. the previous gen 5 was more handsome and had conservative good looks but this one is more flashy but i like it now.

6-series- i like the looks except the trunk, again the trunk looks bad, it almost kills the car because the res of the car is pretty nice.

X3 - its generally a good car, the plastic is cheap looking and i dont really like it, and againt the back of the car is kinda weird looking again. but the overall design is attractive.

still waiting on the new 3 series hopefully it will be ok, i think it will from the "spy pics". BMW knows not to fuck that one up too much as it is their bestselling car. and the M3 w/a v8.....i like

I agree with what you have said.

The old 5 was very conservative, and just blended in with the traffic. But the new style sticks out - I personally think it is innovative and bold, and has paid off for them, but i bet they have lost a lot of sales as a result. The new Z4 is definitely an improvement and as has already been pointed out, BM clearly realised there was something very wrong with the Z3 (or a 3 series in drag) as they made it a Z4 - NOT the new Z3.

I am kinda undecided over the 6, that massive 'ghetto booty' takes some getting used to. I think your spot on about the X3 i saw one 'up-close' a couple o days ago and it just looks like a big tonka toy. You want to pick it up and 'brum' it along the carpet making farting noises as you go.

The 3 series, is, as you say a BIG selling car, so i reckon they need to trod carefully - going too extreme could loose them serious money.

Cheers
Tom

As Brembo said, this topic has been discused here and I guess in many other sites, as for me, I do like Bangle´s job. I think it was pretty brave of him to turn the company´s design upside down.

If they would just "fix" the rear on 5 and 7 ... Everything else is great!

As i have told in another chance in this forum....im just a fan or classic car shapes rather than the a moderns one.....in addition, i was a great fan of the BMW seriess shapes...from the E-30 3 series to the former 5 series..........however, i dont fancy very much with the turn of BMW to the latest design type....

I like them all except for the bootlids. It doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one because of it, but I think when the facelifts come around, that should be their primary focus.

If you compare the E60 M5 bootlid to the regular E60 5's bootlid, you will see what I mean. VERY slight adjustment, but it makes the car less arse-heavy.
