Default anyone knows how this engine part is called?

I was looking trough some of my best motoring videos and suddenly while watching VTEC Magic they show the engine of the Prime Garage Integra Type R, and it didn't had a Intake Manifold & Air Intake it has 4 pipes that suck in the air (probably the same job as the air filter) directly connected to the Throttle Bodies. Now, my question was, how are these pipes called that are connected to the throttle body?

those pipes are commonly referred to as air horns. You see them on alot of carburetted engines. The 70's Ferrari V12's come to mind right of the top of my head. They usually come in different lengths, depending on the application you need them for.

Short, produces high end power, and long produces low end torque.

I will have to go add an intake manifold section to my engine write up. I had a feeling i was forgetting something

thanks !! does this have a lot of effect over the normal cold air intake / short ram intake ? and is this a long or short air horn ? since I don't see it could get a lot longer Thank you zfrkS62

you know... if your stroke is longer (distance) then your intake runner.... you could run into problems with fuel jumping, and exploding intake manifolds... so im told

The length of the intake has to do with the pressure wave of the incoming air. It is quite technical to explain but the velocity of this wave is the speed of sound and travels between the opening of the air intake and the intake valves. The most ideal is to get the high pulse at the intake valves when they open. The opening (and closing of the valves) of the valves is rpm dependend. At higher revs the interval between two openings of the intake valves is shorter, to use the pressure wave the distance it needs to travel must be shorter so the length of the intake must be shorter. Since at lower revs the interval is longer, the intake must be longer to get the high pressure wave at the right time at the intakevalve.
Most ideal to use the pressure wave is a continiously variable intake length so the pressure wave can be used at all revs. However this is technicallly quite difficult to make.

The engine in your pics shows a very short intake, so it is tuned to use the pressure wave at high revs.

I tried to write it up as simple as possible, but my technical education makes it very hard

Yeah, here it's called "pulse tuning" But given the face that civics generally don't have much room between the firewall and intake anyway, but when you take the throttle bodies and bolt them to the dead, you make that space even shorter, so you don't have mush runner length to play with. I don't think you'll get an optimal tune set up that way. The reason being that the air is being sucked in backwards away from the firewall, instead of getting it in the front of the engine compartment.

well they are called ram pipes more commonly and On many cars now a days they use variable length intakes I know both Honda and Nissan use them and Ford had them in a way on the older DOHC 4.6's.
