Short, produces high end power, and long produces low end torque.

thanks !! does this have a lot of effect over the normal cold air intake / short ram intake ? and is this a long or short air horn ? since I don't see it could get a lot longer :P Thank you zfrkS62

The length of the intake has to do with the pressure wave of the incoming air. It is quite technical to explain but the velocity of this wave is the speed of sound and travels between the opening of the air intake and the intake valves. The most ideal is to get the high pulse at the intake valves when they open. The opening (and closing of the valves) of the valves is rpm dependend. At higher revs the interval between two openings of the intake valves is shorter, to use the pressure wave the distance it needs to travel must be shorter so the length of the intake must be shorter. Since at lower revs the interval is longer, the intake must be longer to get the high pressure wave at the right time at the intakevalve.
Most ideal to use the pressure wave is a continiously variable intake length so the pressure wave can be used at all revs. However this is technicallly quite difficult to make.
The engine in your pics shows a very short intake, so it is tuned to use the pressure wave at high revs.
I tried to write it up as simple as possible, but my technical education makes it very hard :wink:
