i agree that a diesel Lambo may not be the most glorious idea, but consider the fact that diesel is more powerful than petrol. it's easier to make a 9 second diesel drag engine than it is to make a 9 second petrol drag engine.
it could be quite interesting to see

diesel is more powerfull to petrol?
you see compare same engines
2.0 Turbo Petrol- normal power is about 200 hp- best 400 hp EVO
2.0 Turbo diesel- im not sure but 2.0D from BMW 163 hp,normal TDI 2.0 140 hp
3.0 Turbo diesel- best 220 hp from Audi year 2004
3.0 Turbo petrol- 1994 Supra 330 Hp
So compare same engines, yes new diesels are impresive but not more powerfull then petrol

I allways liked the Zonda more then the Enzo, so I'm certainly cool about a new Zonda that can outperform an Enzo.
And then naturally an M1 is one car we've all been waiting for. With a 3.0 310hp engine it WILL definitly kick ass bigtime. It will definitly also motivate more people to get a normal 1series, so good job BMW. Just hope we don't have to wait to long for this one!
 But the other news makes me very sad...
Common, the purest car there is... you just cannot give it a diesel engine. A lambo allways has been THE raw performance car. Ferrari's were often more refined but didn't have the power to match it. Nowadays I allways thought Audi is doing a good thing with Lamborghini and now this ... This just makes me very mad :x and sad at the same time.

torque ratings on a diesel are alot higher than on petrol. Why do you think frieght trans, tanks and semi trucks are all diesel? try and do that shit with gas and all you're going to get is shrapnel. WHY? because diesel burns hotter, and heat is the best way to create HP.
Engineer a diesel engine to rev to 6 grand and i'm sure you'll see some cool shit.
now i;m not saying that a diesel lambo is a good idea, i'm just saying don't knock the idea unless you really think about the advantages of diesel. Put the right gearing behind it and will hold its own.
and now that i've read the M1 article.....i like the idea of an S V12 only issue i can see is creating confusion with fans of the original M1.

Any car this wide, in which you sit this low, with a bonnet this long, which weighs this much, whose gearbox action is this slow and whose overall gearing is this tall, cannot be the fastest thing on the roads of Britain.

WTF? ? These autocar test drivers call themsleves drivers? Seems they were afraid of the Viper...
What a bunch of pussies...
The story reads like some whining tree-hugger... Autocar is the type of magazie a flip through at the book store ad ever actually pay for.

Great News about the Pagani! Love that car. and 630bhp to boot is all the better. (I hope its torque remains astronomical as well.) And an "all new, more extreme model" in 2007? Already, the anticipation...

As regards the new model it is intended to be a proper hypercar which aims to compete with likes of the F60 whereas the original zonda and even the S-version were supposed to be just a fairly fast supercars which attractivity was based rather on the outlandish look and the exclusivity.
It is also said to use the V12 from the Chrysler ME-412 putting 850 horses..But based on the Autocar's info I would say it could have a 720hp version of the current NA V12 lifted from the latest CLK-GTR.Considering the weight of approximately 1100kg it is obvious that even the 800+hp F60 will get a hard time.
