BMW NOT dropping "Ultimate Driving Machine" Slogan

Great news for us BMW fans

I think they simply screwed up and thought they could change it without backlash... so they come up with this tory 'We never intended to change,." ;)

Quote:

“BMW has no intention of dropping, altering or in any way moving away from that great line,” says Eric Webber, a spokesman for ad agency GSD&M, the company responsible for BMW's new “A Company of Ideas” campaign.

In fact, when you look at the “Company of Ideas” print ads, the “The Ultimate Driving Machine” slogan is clearly present. Webber says the new campaign is a positioning statement for the company and not meant as a slogan replacement for “The Ultimate Driving Machine.”

Well, thank goodness. Unfortunately, our knowledge of similar flubs at other automakers in the past had us believing the erroneous AdAge story, as did many other media outlets. Hopefully we’ve cleared it up.

What's the big deal? Does a slogan make it any more or less true?

StanAE86 08-10-2006 11:01 AM

Thank god. So far with the new generation of Bangle cars, BMW has been a Company of [Bad] Ideas...

Make up your mind already!!!

Mattk 08-11-2006 08:22 AM

They didn't flip-flop. It wasn't a plan in the first place.

They are only syaing that because it was a stupid plan to begin with.

Quite obviously there were going to slide the new slogan into the current ads, then eventually do away with the old one.

But this backfired in their faces :P

How could they drop the ultimate driving machine campaign, while producing new cars like that ;) 580nm in a saloon, coupe or touring 3series, is plenty.

I drove today new Audis, S8 and RS4, well it was my //M on the way home, that gave me the best smiles today..
