Lotus releases the first information on the new large model, Europe S. the car is this time no Spartan sportscar, but twoseater GT. In the best tradition of lotus Europe S is a lightweight. The car weighs only 995 kilos; that has been reached through the use of an aluminium chassis. For coachwork and much botsenergie botsenergie-absorbing share it has been used of composite. Lotus promises that Europe S has a larger luggage space in comparison with the Elise and easier to get in because the chassis is lower and the roof line a bit higher. The car stands on an extended chassis of the Elise. All Europa's have leather lining, two airbags and with moquettes interieur dressed. Europe s has 2,0-liter Opel engine placed in the middle an engine with 203 pk and 263 Nm cross-belt. It helps the new lotus to a sprint of 0 to 100 in 5.5 seconden and the sprint from stilstand to 160 km/u confiscates about 14 seconden. The maximum speed is 225 km/u. In July 2006 the production of the new model starts. In Malaysia at mother company did not do believe proton, such as rumours, but simply at the thuisbasis in the British Hethel. On all markets where lotus is present, Europe s is added to the programme. Continue burn America and Canada however of the model. For Great Britain lotus gives vanafprijs up of 49,000 pond. In that class fall also the jaguar XK8, corvette the C6 or new Marcos TSO. Concerning some time the programmeprogramme programme is completed with a continuator of the esprit. That large sportwagen with potent V8 becomes the hanging out the flag ship of lotus.

Put a VX220 body on it, give it leather, a new name and you get a Europa? I'm honestly bothered by this....

saadie 12-06-2005 06:05 PM

wtf ..... after the exige .. this is literally a POS :?

vexor 12-06-2005 06:09 PM

They need to stop making these type of cars for now and focus on getting the new Esprit out.

Yep! It definitely looks like an Opel Speedster!! and I know what I am talking about...

same chassis, same mirrors, even the wheels seem identical (from the dimensions, with the typical 175mm width front wheel)...but also the same engine as the Speedster Turbo.

Nothing new, which is a bit sad. I would have expected something more different.

I agree with Vexor that the best way to recover the name is doing a good job creating a lotus esprit sucessor.....with a similar shape or different, but maintaining the old esprits essence....little weight, not very big engines, and sharp suspensions, steering.....if lotus continues with elise or similar, naturally no problem

However, i see the europa hideous having a look at the pic; perhaps ill like it when i see it on the road....but it seems that i wont like the car; if this wasnt enough, i dont fancy with the interior either

gucom 12-06-2005 06:35 PM

hmmm im sure its an amazing car, but i wonder with all these more luxurious elises being released lately if this car is different enough to justify 49k pounds :? also i find the elise alot better-looking...but maybe itll grow on me :)

This car is much and much too expensive!!! It starts at 75.000 euro's that's crazy. That's allmost 911 Carrera money. And the Europa only has 200hp...

sorry Lotus but this will be a miss...

ae86_16v 12-06-2005 11:26 PM

What is the purpose of this car again?

How is this suppose to be marketed?

911GT1 12-07-2005 12:15 AM

I think it's a GT version of the elise. Elise is a track car for everyday driving but the Europa maybe an everyday car with some track day capabilities. Looks much bigger, better equipped and more comfortable. I guess instead of making a compromised elise, they decided to invent another class of cars... a "trackday GT car". :? After all it's built on an extended elise chasis. So it shouldnt suprise us that from the photos it looks like an elise. The VX220 was a not built on an extended elise chasis.

It looks longer than the elise...

i cant agree with that... the Elise is actually Quite comfortable for long distance driving... and i only have 1 complaint about it (besides wishing the S2000 motor was in it) you are at an akward angle from the drivers seat to the windshield where visibility behind sucks, left and right arent terrible, straight is just fine, but looking at a stop light? nope... its quite difficult to keep an eye on the light situation.... this europa seems to suffer the same angles.

i do think this should be called something... but mabey not the europa. perhaps it belonged under the Opel name?

dutchmasterflex 12-07-2005 12:56 AM

I thought the Speedster was based on the Elise? And now it seems Lotus based the new Europa on the Speedster? I dont know about this..

RAMMIUS 12-07-2005 02:28 AM

Ugly as hell :( it doesn`t look like a Lotus at all , what a POS

LotusGT1 12-07-2005 03:25 AM

It looks like one of those sporty cars that econo brands sometimes make to boost their image. Has little to do with Lotus. Where's the aggresiveness?
