JW GTR Hot Lap Competition

I know it's only few of us who race GTR on JW but still I think it could be good fun. Anybody interested? We can share setups and give advice etc...
If there is any interest what track do you guys want to do first?

Again, this is all for good fun, if your dead slow in GTR, post your time, I or someone else will help you out.

Just a track of top of my head would be the ring, which I never really ran a fast lap on.

The rules are: No Driving Aids except Auto Clutch.

Nordschleife:
Driver: Time:

|Nuno| 07-19-2005 08:49 PM

Hmm, seems like I need to reinstall GTR as soon as possible.

I had a shitload of VERY nice setups, but lost them when my PC crashed... Just gimme some time to organize everything back again and I'll enter this. 8)

Just to give me an idea, what's your best time around Enna, Brno and the Nordschleife? :)

sameerrao 07-19-2005 09:18 PM

Mine is your time minus 1 second

But then again, with my shitty times, that's hardly an achievement. :P

On a serious note, I need another wheel. My MOMO hasn't aged that well... :? I get Self-Centering even with it disabled both on the Profiler and on the .plr... And it increases with the FFB - if I have around 45%, I get no Self-Centering; anything above 60, and it feels like I'm driving a truck... :?

SFDMALEX 07-19-2005 10:07 PM

I dont have an NS time for you. I honestly stopped looking at my times 2 years ago  The hard core hot lapping game just takes too much time. BTW I cant stand Enna....bloody oval shite...

Here are some times of top of my head.

Donington: 1:27:low
Spa: 2:11:high
Brno 1:56(I have very few laps there, only raced it online)

hm what else....
Fiorano: 1:12
Oschers: 1:24 I think

Anyway none of those were intended hot laps, and all of them were set with a fully manual H pattern gearbox and clutch pedal.

nthfinity 07-19-2005 10:53 PM

alex, i was wondering where the MC12 car pack might be located... by the way, are you basing your NS time from the Zurich 24 hour track... im almost finding myself compleating a single lap w/out crashing  (after so many hours with in car footage, PGR2, GT3's NS... im really good, until i goof it up, and crash  taking the lines right, and brake points, and you seriously fly through the course!

off the top of my head..
spa: 2:17 is my best... and only once, my general laps there are around 2:21
donington... i never really liked that course for some reason, it felt clostraphobic

Yep same track. I too crash a lot, Im just to eager to finish the lap so the stop watch strarts clicking...you need a lot of patience for NS.

As for the MC12 you can find it on race sim central or ask RC45. I never really downloaded it since it's 3rd party so the physics are most definetly wrong plus its a very high poly model and takes a big hit on FPS.

RC45 07-19-2005 11:07 PM

Is RaceSimCentral down?

Too bad non of the addon cars have proper physics, but I do know a bloke who can make an accurate model just by knowing were the engine is located and by looking at the spec sheet, too bad he works for SimBin lol.

Too bad SimBin is full of shit and can't complete anything they start ;) :P

This next title better not be a half arsed piece of shit as welll ;)

How exactly is their title a peice of shit? BTW What do you mean by "anything they start"? They have only released one sim so far

I would really like to know how it's so bad?

Offline there is nothing wrong with it. Starforce is not their idea, and online it isnt bad etheir, a bug here or there(tell me a tittle that doesnt) I still had plenty of 20+ driver races without any problems. Maybe you read rsc too much, just so you know the reason I never post there even though I've registered there long time ago is because its a big flame fest of cry babies who dont do jack shit but bitch all the time. No matter what the game or what the hardware. Not all ofcorouse.

Their first "free mod" was ok, but rough and needed completion - so they promised to et in finished in the "for sale" title...

So they released the "for sale" GTR version - adn it has flaws... and is far from perfect - it's good, but not really $30 commercially sold good... it's really just "polished free download mod" good.

Now they are on their 2nd for sale title.... it better not have "unfinished netcode" etc... :)

We can laugh and make fun of the Dub Cities for bad physics etc... but they are far more complete by the time they go onsale.

These SimBin guys have this last chance - if they blow it again with huge unlock key problems, online server issues etc.

There were 3 versions on sale here in the US - I ended up returning 2 until I got the red box, because the others always said bad key.

:)

I hope they get it right.

SFDMALEX 07-20-2005 01:11 AM

hmm not worht 30$? polished free mod good?hmm
There first free mod was ok? THeir first free mod set a benchmakr for any mod to come fyi.
Sorry Im not even going to try to argue because there is no point.

Only issues with it are some starforce problems which is a straforce problem and some bugs in the net code which still dont prevent hundreds of leagues from racing. So if the greatest sim to date is a peice of shit mod, then I guess everything else is as good as my first code of pong that I made at the age on 10 for my atari.

Anyway lets stay on topic, Ill ask Dan to delete a bunch of posts here so we keep this thread relivant to its title.

Yeah, when you really start Hotlaping it's difficult to stop. I started doing it about a month ago and good thing my PC crashed, because that took me way too much time.

And by the way, Enna can be quite fun when you're racing with the AI... Overtaking them on those high speed chicanes making them crash into the tyre walls can be fun.

And I gotta find Fiorano! I'm installing the game as we speak, so by the Weekend I should have everything up. 8) But by looking at your times, seems like I'll only have a chance at Oschers...

|Nuno| 07-21-2005 11:58 AM

Okay, let me do the honours:

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4783/hl4oo.th.jpg

There's still room for improvement - this was my first day of GTR after a 3 week break, and this wasn't exacly a Qualifying-like lap. With soft slicks at the back I guess that a 1:12.2XX should be possible.

Also, I think I could be faster with a 550 or a Viper but since I don't have a nice setup for any of them yet, the Saleen will have to do for now.

EDIT: I didn't read the first post well... So, we're doing the 'Ring first, or can we just post the times for any circuit?

SFDMALEX 07-21-2005 12:13 PM

Fiorano is fine first. Ill do some laps later tonight.

|Nuno| 07-21-2005 12:24 PM

Okay then. :)

Meanwhile, I'll see if I can arrange a nice setup for the 550.

nthfinity 07-21-2005 12:33 PM

fiorano in a bit sounds great, hopefully i can do well after an hour :)

|Nuno| 07-21-2005 01:47 PM

A little bit better:

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/331/hl27hb.th.jpg

nthfinity 07-21-2005 08:26 PM

Fiorano: 1:15.3 S7R, just lowered suspension
EDIT: 1:14.69 with increased wing... i feel like 1:14.0 is available now

i think i could get that down to a mid 1:14 with some more work, but after many fustrating hours with the 575 GTC (1:17.9) im done for the day i think

mabey you can share some secrets of getting mor mechanical grip?

I'll upload my basic setup in a moment. It's for the Saleen though, and you'll have to make some adjustments since it's basicly just a suspension/diff setup. :)

EDIT: Here it is:

http://www.dropload.com/redeem.php?t...1deede5c612ccf

Just mess around until it suits your driving style better, but be sure to change the gear ratios and lower the tyre pressures.

how about a replay?

Sorry guys I didnt lap today because Ive been playing basketball for the last 4 hours, didnt get the time to lap.

|Nuno| 07-22-2005 11:06 AM

And another one:

http://img307.imageshack.us/img307/6348/hl33vw.th.jpg

Can't say I was expecting the Murcielago to be the fastest car (with me anyway) around Fiorano, but what it lacks in torque and hp compared to the Saleen, it makes up in braking.

SFDMALEX 07-22-2005 10:12 PM

Did a few laps today and only managed a 1.12:9, actually ran faster before. Ill try a different car, the Ferrari's power doesnt get used on this tight circuit much.

heres the replay

Good lap, and please dont tell me you use the external view :?

|Nuno| 07-23-2005 08:07 AM

Thanks, and yeah I use the external view. For some reason I can't get used to GTR's cockpit view, even with all the possible adjustments... :? Specially on the GT cars, it feels kinda claustrophobic. :bah:

Anyway, after messing around with the rear camber settings I managed to go into the 11's:

k, but just so you know external view is much easier because you see the whole track, the car everything. You wouldnt be able to join any simulation server if you werent using hood or cockpit.

Give the bumper or hood view a try

Yeah, I probably will. In terms of laptimes the difference isn't much, but I just don't feel confortable with it in some cars. :) And the sound is much better with the external view.

Other thing... I heard at rscnet that there's a Isle of Man circuit - anyone knows where I can find it? :D

You drive with outside view? Taht dos not count ...
You drave your car IRL flying above and behind it (after all, GTR is a SIM, so treat it as such) ...
On the other side, I have to confess that I use ABS (cant feel the brakes on computer as you can IRL) ...

Edit: I really ought to read all post befotre posting myself ...

Like I said, I can't get used to some in car views in GTR; it's not even a matter of lap times, but of confort.

And if we're going that way, you also can't move your head freely or adjust your angle of sight in GTR's cockpit view, like you do in real life. :P So...

By the way, I need help. My MOMO is fucking up with me; I think there's something wrong with the FFB engine. There was a site with a tutorial in how to open the Wheel and other stuff, so if anyone has the adress, please post. :)

SFDMALEX 07-26-2005 08:28 PM

/\/\/\Set the look to apex in the settings, it will turn with your wheel, the view I mean. And trust me mate, external view can give you three seconds easy, thats what the cheaters do. Plus its tottaly unreleastic. If you cant get used to it, try harder  Its not supposed to be easy at all. Just practice mate. Whats the enjoyment of racing with the wheel with external view? :|

As for the wheel, if its hardware you its hardware mate, just get a new one, if it needs fixing that is possible to fix the shop is going to charge you as much as it costs new.

Like I said, it's only in some cars. For instance, with the NGT cars, the Vette or the 550 I use it.

Problem is that I'm broke... I bought the Wheel a year ago, and it had a 3 year warranty (now comes the stupid part), but right after that I went on vacations and the deadline for stamping it expired... So I don't have a warranty... If I had, they'd give me a new one or the money. I'll open it tomorrow to see what I can do.

It's still playable, but it's less realistic due to the weird Self Centering and compared to before, when it was good, my lap times are about 0.5 or 1 seconds slower, depending on the track. :?

Anyway, what track are we doing next? I vote for the Nordschleife (The Mother). :D

Nope, 'The Mother' only has the old layout (22.8 Km) in day, dawn, dusk, night and 24H modes.

Get it here:

In the meantime, I managed to improve 2 seconds today:

I missed the warning, but you can see the time on the LCD (7:36.3). I actually spun on this lap, right in the beginning of the 3rd sector, so a 7:32 or around that should be possible. :)

Imre 09-21-2005 06:57 AM

Not the most appropriate place but i need some help. What are the settings which you use? I mean throttle response and others for keyboard. I just can`t figure out how to get good settings.

Well, using a keyboard isn't a good idead in the first place... You won't be able to really enjoy the game. :| Even a non FFB Wheel is better than the keyboard.

But try this:

www.rscnet.org

Scroll down to the GTR forum, you should find what you're looking for there. :)

Imre 09-21-2005 10:50 AM

Thank Nuno. I agree with you about the keyboard, but it`s better than nothing.
