no possibly way thats a bentley

BADMIHAI 09-15-2004 10:04 PM

That's not going to be a Bentley. It might be some failed prototype for the S-Klasse but there is no fucking way that is a Bentley.

SilviaEvo 09-15-2004 10:12 PM

EDIT: im a dumbass ignore me

blah 09-15-2004 10:16 PM

read the article bently stapled on the S-Class grill as camoflauge.

gigdy 09-15-2004 10:17 PM

its also got the merc symbol on the hood.

tigerx 09-15-2004 10:22 PM

i dont' think merc would let them do that.

Yet it is.

it's pretty hard to see.

It's quite clever actually, like that VW prototype that camouflaged itself as a Citroen C3

Ziploc 09-16-2004 10:22 AM

wow boringest car ever

Ian_yamaue 09-16-2004 10:44 AM

Thanks for the pic Toronto.

It really worked.

possessed_beaver 09-16-2004 11:16 AM

meh..

i will give my opinions when they put the actual grill on it!

Ian_yamaue 09-16-2004 12:02 PM

My bet is that the front will look Continental GT like. In this case it will look great.

abbor 09-16-2004 12:04 PM

I fully agree with the beaver.. I can't imagine how it will look yet..

Idd, VW did the same thing with the Passat prototype (Mercedes camouflage), if my memory serves me right.

Idd it's a common trick car manufactures do. They want to draw as less as intention possible to their prototypes, so that's why they want to deceive possible viewers with camouflage so it will look like another brand, or by using a mule.

Another example of such a camouflage: the new Focus sedan, Ford uses specific stickers so it would look like the rear of a BMW 3 series.

Toronto 09-16-2004 02:03 PM

it's not just the grill that makes it look like a merc, it is the hood, and the lines of the car from the front fender to the bumber.

I know it's not only the front that makes the car, but it matters very much!
Don't know what I think about the car overall!

Compare the lines of the front with a Conti GT, they look almost exactly the same (even the shape of the grill behind the camouflage). Also tge way the A-pillar smoothly flows into the V-shaped bonnet is the same as with the Conti GT.

5vz-fe 09-16-2004 02:23 PM

very very nice disguise :) But looking at the lines closely, it is clearly not as bulky as the Rolls (but of course, it is built to compete with the S-Class, can't be that bulky rite?) The more important thing should be what are the engine choices. It better have at least 400 in it or the twin tubro in the Mercedes gonna blow this away.

Gnome 09-16-2004 02:28 PM

First I thought that this is really sad. A Bentley that looks so much like a Mercedes. But if (or rather when) they stick a grill like the one on the continental GT on it and does something about those head lights, this can look good without looking too much like the Mercedes. The tail is rather Bentley'ish, if you ignore the lights. I think this definitely has potential!

This doesn't tell us too much about the final car, though. Sometimes it's the details that makes the difference between okay and beautiful cars.

adamwich 09-16-2004 03:00 PM

Nice camoflauge

mclaren_Gt 09-16-2004 03:40 PM

mmmmmmmmmmm really, dont like me much,
and it looks like a Mercedes Benz :(

Sir_GT 09-16-2004 05:13 PM

Its a fatter, bulkier, 4-door continental GT...

basically, its the conti GT without the sex appeal.

looks like, but we'll have to wait a little to see the results. And is it the "new" arnage?

bentley as most car makers, cut costs, etc. to save some money, and some parts are exactly the same.

I made a poor comparison:

1.- the hood/bonnet lines are the same.
2.- headlamps look to me as the same lamp, but different surroundings
3.- wheel arches have the same lines, to me look exactly the same
4.- the mirrors...maybe they're twins
5.- door handle
6.- more wheel arches, and the defense are the same
7.- the grill down lines are exact copies.

won't be called Arnage. It could very well be on sale alongside the Arnage. It will probably be called Continental Flying Spur or something. like the old one.

One of our photoshopers could make a projection of how it will look like, by putting the Conti GT grille and removing the stickers. :D

yeah, but why make more than one photochopped pic of the car? I don't remember looking more than 2 pics of other production mules

and it isn't a BIG and VERY important carmaker to waste so much time doing all those pics

lol. I was about to reply saying that the conti GT has barely any wow-factor, which compounds this car's chances of getting any as well... but I think you said it better. :)

tigerx 09-17-2004 11:58 PM

lol i don't noe, the GT look pretty sexy to me.

i like em big ;) ;) ;)

It's not just to save money. They have an image to keep. Certain aesthetic features are meant to remind you of a certain brand. Different models from the same manufacturer should look like they are related. This goes both for models of the same era, and inheritance from previous models.

wolfster 09-21-2004 06:56 PM

kinda lame...bentley=big grille...back end's alright though i guess

bentley=big grille
not big enough

Rolls Royce=bigger grill

Bently's grill is very conservative compared to Maybach or Rolls or Audi

http://www.rrab.com/rolls/nphantom3.jpg

What i don't like is the drab side profile

yg60m 09-22-2004 12:59 AM

The camouflage hides the lines well, i think it will be fine looking

Toronto 09-22-2004 01:17 AM

i think it is going to loose some class with the new model, i liked the old body style.

Ian_yamaue 09-22-2004 09:54 AM

Hey guys, please, take a look here.
