It´s a nice capable car and everything but $557,000 is way too much money. But I guess if you have millions and you want the first car no matter what and you´re giving money to charities, then it´s ok.

think of what chassis #1 could possibly get 50 years down the road I would consider that a sound investment. And yeah it's for charity so it's all good. And one hell of a car.

I will never give up a gasoline engine until the day there is actually no source of gasoline on the planet period. and even then I will keep the car at home as a memorial.

For sure there will be ZEV's, but think about everything else that runs on petrol. Leno has a steampowered car, so he wouldn't have to worry :roll: . I want to see fucking flying cars and the Jetson's shit before we end up driving solar powered cars, wouldn't you?

well when you open the door and look at that sill plate that says chassis #1 that would be something special as compared to chassis number #47 or something eventhough Bill Ford's Chassis #0 is probably the most valuable.

I guess we'll have to see in 30-40 years how good (or bad) of an investment this is. It's not like this guy made his millions off of bad business decisions. And yeah, this is just pocket change for him.

Ford's 205-mph supercar roars away in the hands of its first private owner. The first private sale of Ford's new mid-engine supercar was completed on August 4, 2004, when former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley took delivery of his Midnight Blue 2005 Ford GT at Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent, Wash., just south of Seattle. The process began nearly a year ago when Mr. Shirley earned the right to purchase the first production Ford GT at Christie's Auction in Pebble Beach. Mr. Shirley told MSN Autos, "I went to the Christie's Auction intending to buy the car, but I didn't expect the bidding to be quite as spirited as it was." The proceeds of the auction, which netted $557,500, benefited the designated charities of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Jon Shirley purchased 2005 Ford GT chassis number 10, certified by Ford as the first 2005 Ford GT offered for sale to the public. Ford will keep the first nine cars for internal use.

The Ford GT offers only a handful of options to choose from, but Mr. Shirley told MSN Autos that it was very difficult to decide on the color. He spent two full days in Dearborn, Mich., with the designer of the car, looking at body panels finished in different colors before settling on Midnight Blue. The three options that he did include are the lightweight BBS wheels, a McIntosh audio system, and grey painted brake calipers.

True auto enthusiasts will be glad to hear that the first Ford GT went to a "good home," where it will be driven rather than displayed in a museum.

An active vintage racer, Mr. Shirley already has plans to take the car to the track—and to take Ford up on their offer to send out a test driver to teach him the finer points of driving the GT. Mr. Shirley told MSN Autos that in addition to racing vintage sports cars he has driven other modern sports cars, but with the Ford GT he expects to move up to a whole new level.

Public sale number two is scheduled for next week in Los Angeles when Jay Leno, host of NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" takes delivery of his 2005 Ford GT. Leno is a true auto enthusiast with a reputation for driving his cars, so you can expect to see his Ford GT on the street as well.

^^that's a great video to watch, I'm sure he knows how to get the most out of that car, he owns a 1997 Formula 1 car!! That's a very nice colour that he picked for the car, he definately knows what he's doing.

that is a nice video you can tell he was taking it easy with the gas/clutch pulling out.

you can find those picture in higher res at SC.net i love that color, look much more easy going then the flamboyant red and white strip ;) even though i'll settle for any color (even if it's pink, i'll just repaint it myself lol)
