Koenigsegg or Zonda ?

I was thinkin the other day which car is the better one, or which one I'd buy if I had the money.
Personally I think the zonda is overly publicised now, I'd get the koenigsegg, the figures are close but the koenigsegg is better at least on paper. I also happen to like the koenigsegg's styling better. And it has the extra convenience of a removable roof.
On paper the koenigsegg should run zero to hero in 3.0 secs and max out at 242 mph while the zonda claims 3.6 seconds and 220 mph.
On price front (should u care to ask) the koenigsegg is around 16% more expensive than the zonda but then again it has around 100 bhp more.

So which one would u choose ?

Mopsdrops 07-25-2004 06:23 AM

Difficult question...But i'd take a Koenigsegg: like the front especially and its fast, very fast. I will then take a black one :P

BADMIHAI 07-25-2004 10:18 AM

I think the Zonda is a better car overall: build quality, handling, high speed stability, engine...the lot. It would be a very hard decision for me to pick just one. If I had the money I'd probably pick both. If I really had to choose I'd have to drive them first.

Ford Capri 2.8i 07-25-2004 10:32 AM

I get the zonda as well....due to a light car accompanied by a big and proficient engine....anyway........ill follow the next sentence: ill get the worse of them

Speed !?
The koenigsegg has 110 more bhp, 0.5 seconds faster to 60 and with 22 mph more top speed, how is the zonda faster then !?
I think this serves to prove my point, the zonda has gotten more than its fair share of publicity.....

5.7 V10 07-25-2004 10:41 AM

My second favorite car.. the Zonda. The Koenigsegg looks good, but i don't like that interior or engine. The Zonda is my choice, with it's beautiful group C styled styling. It's amazing attention to detail, the carbon fibre, quality interior. The big awesome 7.3 litre Mercedes powerplant, which develops 553 ft-lbs of torque @ 4,050 rpm

Ok, first. The Zonda deserves it's publicity because it's such a damn good car. Second, you are using claims. By rights, the CC8 should destroy the Zonda. But no, Zonda beat the CC8S on the Top Gear track. When Autocar tested the the Koenigsegg. It took the CC8S 4.4 seocnds to get to 60 and 8.4 seconds to 100. They found the CC8S took a laughable 10.2 seconds to accelerate from 50-70mph at top gear while Pagani Zonda C12S needed only 4.4 sec.

It may look good on paper, but i wouldn't trust company claims to much.

To quote Autozine

"Much of the blame must go to the Vortec supercharger. It is a centrifugal-type supercharger, unlike the screw-type supercharger used by other supercars such as Mercedes SLR, SL55AMG and Ford GT. Centrifugal-type superchargers are very much like turbochargers except that their turbines are driven by crank instead of exhaust gas. Their advantage is high power gain, which the Koenigsegg needs to get most from its 4.7-litre capacity. The disadvantage is weak boost when the turbine is not spinning quick enough, just like turbochargers. They also cause some throttle delay, similar to turbo lag, as Evo experienced in the Koenigsegg. "

Max Power 07-25-2004 11:21 AM

The Koenigsegg, just for those doors, everything else is useless, u can't exactly do 240 mph while passing Corollas, so unless u r going for the Gumball, Koenigseeg's doors make it appealing to me

jorge 07-25-2004 12:57 PM

Good question. I really like both cars, but given the choice i would get a Zonda, it seems to be a very high-quality product.

yg60m 07-25-2004 01:08 PM

Very hard question for me, same prices, same high tech, both have personality and very good performances (even if only the Zonda proved to reach the claimed perf, the Koenigsegg being a little disappointed on Autocar and Auto Hebdo tests).
I like both designs (with maybe a small advange for the Koenigsegg) really i can't choose ...

vexor 07-25-2004 03:18 PM

Koenigsegg will do it for me. I just love the doors on that car, and the detachable roof, plus it's one of the fastest cars on the planet.

RC45 07-25-2004 03:25 PM

Zonda - no contest.

HeilSvenska 07-25-2004 04:39 PM

Koenigsegg...evil...dark...angry

DMbaseball1604 07-25-2004 07:15 PM

I'm really surprised that so many people are saying that the Koenigsegg performs better...and thats why they would get it, it does have a lot more power but I dont think its enough to shy away from getting a zonda...the quality on the cars has been proven, and the look on the inside of the car is stunning!

If I were able to get a car in this price range I would get a car that would perform well and would be reliable and that is definitely a Zonda not a Konigsegg

IgotWRXed 07-25-2004 09:31 PM

Zonda roadster will solve all the problems :)

hmm if it was between the CC8S i think i would take the zonda, but if it were the CCR i think i would have to go with the Koenigsegg.

bradleykylenelson 07-26-2004 12:14 AM

i tell you what the koenigsegg is an amazing car. it really is an amazing supercar. but the stinking zonda still has it beat. for one the zonda was made but and ex-employee of ferrari. i think the zonda is a much more solid car. and although there times were only a ten of a second off on top gear. the track was pretty wet in places for the zonda and pretty stinking dry for the koenigsegg. i think if it went for the dihedral sincro-helix actuation doors that the zonda would have it beat in every category

chipanggo 07-26-2004 04:39 AM

over the koenigsegg, i'd pick the zonda. from the top gear reviews i've seen, the zonda is the much quicker car and a lot more driver friendly, whereas the koenigsegg is such a brute tp drive around.

aks 07-26-2004 05:23 AM

i would pick the Koenigsegg purely on it's looks, the extra power is just an added extra! :D

plus, the koenigsegg turns easily (how easy is debatable) into a convertible! chicks, here i come!

mindgam3 07-26-2004 06:51 AM

Zonda, everytime - it is a faster car on track, has a much better chassis and therefore handling according to almost every comparison i've read and seen of the two, plus the build quality is much better. Most reviews have said the CC8S feels unfinished, and realiability is a bit of an issue with the CC8S - see the gumball movie for instance. The zonda with its NA AMG V12 is a much more sophisticated engine and as its merc, much more reliable, plus attention to detail and the finish of the zonda is in a different league compared to the CC8S.

saadie 07-26-2004 06:55 AM

i'd go fer a CCR .... its meener faster angrier

v0od0o 07-26-2004 07:17 AM

perhaps we should've included a poll for that
I didn't expect that many ppl to vote for the koenigsegg, now it's a close call

I'd still go for a zonda over a CCR. Even if it does have more power, its got the same chassis and build quality....

My choice is the Koenigsegg. But even though your are paying an incredible amount of money the car is not perfect. Specially the interior.
I know they tried to save weight but come on. :x

And now look..................

http://imagesfordpag.free.fr/images/...2004_db9_2.jpg

I look it's exterior styling, the 20" wheels but them you go inside and feels a bit ............... short changed. It's a good thing that once on the move you don't have time too look at the interior.

And about de Zonda beating the CC8 on the track, if i'm not mistaken in JC DVD "Shoot Out" where he tests both cars, Koenigsegg changes the tires which made the Koenigsegg much more controllable. On that DVD JC chooses the CC8.

But if you watch martin brundles supercars (he knows a hell of a lot more about car dynamics than JC) he prefers the zonda a lot more than the CC8

Gimp 07-26-2004 06:26 PM

From the looks of the 2003 Gumball, that guy really fucked up his Koenigsegg in a short amount of time. I would go with the Zonda.

I'd take the Zonda

ZONDA

beautiful, built in Italy...

But I I'll buy a Supercar. it will be Ferrari or Porsche, the more technologically advanced houses.
Zonda....the aero is horrible
Koenigsegg...I don't like so much.
To be sure, you have to buy Porsche or Ferrari.

The only ford part left of that engine is the block, and even thats been modified by Teskid in italy who incedently manufacture blocks for ferrari F1 engines...

The cabin is a DB9 interior and i just think he wanted to show what a koenigsegg cockpit looked like next to a decent cabin

What i'm trying to say is the difference between a good interior and a bad one.

I don't really like the zonda's interior even though it is better that the CC8.

On thas to ask then, why even start with a Ford engine if it is going to be modified by the company who makes engines for Ferrari.

Unless there are a lot more Ford pieces left than you care to admit or imagine... :P

Besides - I am more inclined to believe the Ford V8 is Volvo's contribution to the "commitee program" that is the Koeniggsegg project.

So - the bottom line is the "heart and soul" of the CCS is from a Ford Mustang... ;) :P

To be honest i couldn't really answer your question, i guess you'll have to e-mail them ;) Many performance car companies do this though - take an ordinary production engine and heavily modify it so by the end its hardly what it started out to be.

For instance aston martins V12 is just 2 mondeo v6's stuck together; i don't think you could compare them.

Plus the ford V8 that just happens to be in the mustang is in many other cars too eg the new MG SV.

However i don't think that the koenigsegg actually has a "mustang engine in it". It has an engine based on the ford racing v8 block. Which may be a relative or descendant of the mustang V8 but is not the same. Then it goes to italy to actually be made into and engine, then it goes to sweden to have its supercharger and other performance pieces which makes it about as far as you can get from a ford mustang engine.

I think its a bit of an insult to koenigsegg and the italian company to say that the heart and soul of the CC is a ford mustang :P

Chingachgook 07-29-2004 05:07 AM

Yes, the Zonda has an horrible aero!

In fact, the race version has been a flop. The shape of the bodywork is made in a way that not allow the air to make work the rear wing.
In fact, if someone remember the "200+mph on the road" test made by EVO UK, when Wallace removed the gurneys form the rear wing, nothing happened...in fact it seem that they doesn't work.
And this isn't said by a normal guy, but from an engineer that worked on the race version of the Zonda.
Building a supercar isn't so easy...you must have experience, this is why I'd go for and House with an enormous amount of know how....Ferrari or Porsche. All the rest it doesn't exist for me.

I'm not sure about racing. But the Zonda has had problems achieveing 200mph. EVO only got 198 and Autmobilsi(sp) got 197. But Sport Auto got 208 mph. So i don't know, but that is not a turn down. For me atleast, the Zonda is built with extremely quality. Every reviewer loves the soft, yet sport suspension, beautiful engine. Damn, the Zonda has won lots of stuff.

CAR: Performance car of the year 2002

Autocar: Specialists manufacter 2002

EVO- car of year

EVO- 2nd best drivers car of the decade- '04

Maybe they're are some problems with aero, but the styling, quality and engine make it up.

Sir_GT 08-04-2004 02:32 PM

Pagani is the next big thing. Once they release their new entry-level (360 modena-priced) car, you will see the company expand like crazy.

Ian_yamaue 08-04-2004 03:52 PM

I choose the Zonda too, for me it's just more impressive.

That car has a very good and beautilful style!!
Yes, Zonda is also very very good but, nothing to do!!

I like the Pagani Zonda more!
But the Koenigsegg is faster, Really fast as you know 248MPH, right?
I like that too, But i'll always support Italian Cars, Not Ferrari.. :fadein:
The design of the Zonda is crap I think! but it is a great car..
i hope Zonda will make more Supercars, They are good at it ;)

Sorry RC, but the engine they use happens to be from a car that i know you respect. Not just the Ford mustang, but the Terminator Cobra engine. Which has proven to be worth it. The engine is powerful and realible. They are pumping out over 1000 horses in less than 2 full years on stock internals.
