that is a nice, not many road cars light up like that. Is it the carbon that does it? Cause i was talking to my cusin who is a track driver and he says he dosnt see red brakes on road cars.

Damn...that looks really cool. I didn't know that they fit such a mechanism in the SLR. Any more pics of it ??

there´s a six page article in the previous AMS issue, a comparision between 300 SLR Uhlenhaut-Coupé and SLR McLaren, very nice and good read, unfortunately in german only...

why would you try to get your brakes to glow it ruins them  but if i was a track driver i would do that just for show

It doesn't ruin the brakes, the SLR has ceramic brakes, they are made to take abuse and it it normal for them to glow when you are under hard braking, its how they disipate heat.

Cool pic btw.

What is this mechanism you speak of? The brakes on that SLR are glowing because of the heat created by heavy braking. This is not some ricer glowy shit. Why would they put that on a SLR?

Ehhmmm, I'll try to answer your questions, first of all, they are ceramic(a special material) that can take abuse far more better than conventional brakes. And no, that's not some ricer glowy shit...that's very expensive material that is more worth than a ricer's car.

Are you talking about the wing? That wing is there to increase downforce and to increase drag, to help the car brake more effectively, and it only comes up when you hit the brake pedal.

Talking about the expense...the Enzo has carbon-ceramic brake discs, and a set of 4 cost $24,000, but I'm sure the SLR uses less expensive ones.

When you hit the brake pedal Hard and at high speed, not every time you brake, that would be useless.

that brakes turns to red because the hard braking and the fraction between the disc and the brake pads on braking from high speed...IMO

fraction between the disc and the brake pads on bra

Surely you mean friction

Damn...then I'm even more impressed. They must be under ENORMOUS pressure to make it glow like that from the heat.

yes this is caused by the heat the breaks, roads can have that happen to it, and if you watch lemans races, you can see the same thing

Enjoy this sight of burning discs. After soem time all cars will be equipped with ceramic brakediscs.. just give 10 or 20 years more time to car industry..
