KUALA LUMPUR March 5 - Experienced German driver Norman Simon has signed a one-year contract to become the new driver for the Malaysian-based Amprex Motorsports racing team.
The 27-year-old, who is the test driver for Lamborghini, partner's Amprex's main driver and team owner Genji Hashimoto in this season's Japan Grand Touring Championship (JGTC) which starts next month.
Hashimoto said as his former partner Charles Kwan of Hong Kong had decided to concentrate on the Porsche Carrera Asia Cup this year, he had to find a new driver.
"Norman has ample racing experience in Europe and the United States as he competed in the British Touring Car Championship, European Touring Car Championship, Formula 3000 and the American Le Mans Series.
"Furthermore was the test driver for Lamborghini last year and since we are also using the Lamborghini engine this season, he was the right choice," he told reporters after the JGTC press briefing here Friday.
Hashimoto said the contract with Simon would be for one year with an option for another.
However, Amprex, the sole Malaysian entry in the Japan GT races, will miss the first two races of the season in Okayama (April 3-4) and Miyagi (May 22-23).
"Our new Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT machine will only be ready by early May and we need some private testings in Europe before taking part in the Japan GT Malaysia round at the Sepang Circuit on June 18 and 19. That's why we had to to skip the first two races," he added.
Amprex will be competing for the first time in the higher class GT500 this season after having raced in the GT300 for the past two seasons in a BMW M3GT.
Meanwhile, Grand Touring Association (GT-A) project manager for the Pacific region, Masaki Tanzawa, said they will seriously focus on promoting the Japan GT races, starting this year.
"We will be creating news values for the Malaysian fans by sponsoring local reporters to cover the six events in Japan. With the coverage, we hope to draw the interest of the fans in JGTC races," he said.
The JGTC race in Malaysia was held twice in 2001 and 2002 but cancelled last year due to fears of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
The other rounds in Japan are Round Four in Hokkaido (July 17-1, Round Five in Tochigi (Sept 4-5), Round Six in Oita (Oct 30-31) and the final round in Suzuka (Nov 20-21).

The Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT racer will make its first appearance of 2004 when Reiter Engineering enter round two of the FIA GT series this coming weekend in Valencia with Oliver Gavin and Peter Kox undertaking driving duties.
Since its debut at the final round of the FIA GT series last year, where it took part in practice sessions before it was withdrawn, the R-GT has undergone substantial revisions, and the 'mark 2' version is believe to have posted highly competitive lap times during recent private test sessions.
The first car will be delivered to French team DAMS, who will be assisting the car's builder, Reiter Engineering, during the Spanish race. British pilot Oliver Gavin is to drive the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT and will share the driving with Dutchman Peter Kox.
This will not be the first time Gavin has driven a Lamborghini with Kox, the pair having raced a Diablo before for the Reiter Engineering team. Gavin's relationship with Reiter goes back many years, in fact back to his season in 1996 with Opel Team Joest in the ITC.
'Hans Reiter phoned me a couple of weeks ago and asked whether I could help them out. I cleared it with GM and said I would be delighted. Peter and I were due to race the Murcielago together at the end of last season but it didn't work out,' said Oliver Gavin.
'Valencia should suit the car and, whilst this is only really a test before they deliver customer cars, we'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'm sure Peter and I will enjoy it. It will be nice to do something different and experience another championship.'
'Hans and his team have worked really hard on this project and it will be good to see it all come to fruition. I can't really compare the car with my normal racing for Corvette as the ALMS and FIA GT specifications are very different," concluded Gavin.

Dutch car magazine Autovisie had an excellent article a while ago on the developement of the R-GT. The writer (and the magazine) knows Peter Kox pretty well, so he could even drive a couple of laps during testing sessions. As far as I know it's the only time a journalist drove an R-GT.

Krohn–Barbour Racing has confirmed its driver line-up for the two Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs it will race in the 2004 American Le Mans Series (ALMS). David Brabham and Peter Kox will pilot car number five whilst joint team owner Tracy Krohn will drive car number six with Scott Maxwell. Both Lamborghini race cars are due to make their debut in the GTS class at the Mid-Ohio round of the ALMS in June. Australian David Brabham is a veteran of the ALMS series and the Le Mans 24 Hours. After four years racing for Panoz Motorsport he drove for Team Bentley during 2003 at the Sebring 12 Hours and Le Mans 24 Hours and won the Daytona Prototype Class at the Rolex 24 Hours. Dutchman Peter Kox has competed extensively in both European touring car and international endurance series, most recently recording a GTS class win at the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours in a Ferrari 550 Maranello GTS and taking podium places in all three ALMS races entered in 2002. Kox also undertook testing during development of the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT on behalf of Reiter Engineering, which has developed and built the car in conjunction with Audi Sport. Kox previously drove a Lamborghini Diablo GTR for Reiter Engineering in the 2001 FIA GT Championship. Joint team owner and businessman Tracy Krohn will pilot the second car alongside professional driver Scott Maxwell. Tracy Krohn graduated from the Panoz Racing School to race in the Panoz GT Pro Series, taking second position overall in 2003. Maxwell’s career has spanned open wheel series as well as sports car and endurance racing. He won the LMP 675 class at the 2000 Le Mans 24 Hours as well as the 2002 Grand-Am Cup Series. “We’re extremely pleased to be campaigning this line-up of exceptional drivers, who will each contribute to bringing out the full potential of the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs,” said team owner Dick Barbour. “Each driver brings experience of driving in relevant series and taking podium positions. Each shares the philosophy of Krohn-Barbour Racing: we’re not here to make up the numbers and we go racing to win championships!” No stranger to winning himself, the 2004 inception of Krohn-Barbour Racing marks Dick Barbour’s return to team ownership, following his ALMS LMP 675 class championship title in 2001 and his ALMS GT class championship in 2000. Barbour drove to three victories himself in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1978, ’79 and ’80, and has also celebrated three Sebring 12 Hours wins as an owner and one as a driver. Krohn-Barbour Racing will run the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GTs from premises at Road Atlanta, Georgia, with factory support from Automobili Lamborghini. A team of Krohn-Barbour technicians will spend time at Reiter Engineering in Germany prior to the next ALMS race.

Regarding Lamborghini's future plans, information are rare. There a plenty of rumours but less certain facts. Relatively safe is that there are crank shafts of more powerful Gallardo V10 engines that do their rounds on the test rigs in Germany and Italy. Rates of over 600hp seem no problem and certain to come in a few years. This also raises the question what will happen with the Murcielago. Its current V12 generates 550hp but a 600hp Gallardo would force the Italians to upgrade the power of their biggest model as well. For that, the 1001hp Bugatti engine does not come into question, in contrast to specs of about 700hp.
On the other hand, all these measures on the engine side are going to come later. Before, we surly will see evolutions of current Lambo models. Roadsters for instance. Despite that designation, they will surly be cars in targa-style. Says, instead of a folding top, they will possess a detachable roof panel. And, also lightweight versions of both the Gallardo and the Murcielago are safe to come soon. Taking the image of the Italian Audi division into account, they are expected to become uncompromising radical sports cars, conceived to surpass any Stradale or GT3.
http://www.fast-zi-nation.de/04_artimages/lambo_02.jpg
Apart from the sports car sector, there too were rumours that said the Audi division plans an SUV. Easy thing because, they could fall back on either the Porsche Cayenne/ VW Touareg platform or, its Audi Pikes Peak/A7 modification or, Maserati's possibly A8-based aluminium off roader but, currently it doesn't seem that Audi intends to rival itself, Porsche or anyone else on this sector. However, Lambo considers a third model line but there are no decision concerning it so far. A four seater GT with the Murcielago V12 engine in the front is the most likely future Lamborghini whereas the second option, a smaller entry model - as we showed in 2001- doesn't appear probable.

19.03.2004 FINALLY IT'S OFFICIAL, ANDREA PICCINI & JEAN-DENIS DELETRAZ WILL DRIVE THE DAMS ENTERED LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO WHEN IT MAKES ITS FIA GT DEBUT AT DONINGTON PARK NEXT MONTH!!
It's finally official, Andrea Piccini and Jean-Denis Deletraz, will drive the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT with The DAMS team in FIA GT Championship.
The car will be delivered to the French team by Reiter Engineering the first week of June. This means that the debut is expected on June 27th in Donington.
Jean Denis Deletraz will be teaming up with Andrea Piccini. They competed together in 2002 with the Ferrari 550 Maranello and in 2003, for half a season, with Lister as well.
This strong and united couple, who had the 2002 title at the tip of their fingers, will once again be part of the FIA GT championship.
Andrea Piccini, “I’m very enthusiastic about this agreement. This will be an introductory season for us: we will have to break the car in and we will have to resolve all of the inevitable problems that will come up with such a “young” car. It will be hard work but exciting. I can’t wait to get on track in Donington and to make our debut with the Lamborghini Murcielago.”
Audi will be supporting the Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT program with all of its technical knowledge and they will be at hand to update the car as fast as possible. The tyres haven't been chosen yet, but Audi's close collaboration with Michelin, leads speculation that the tyres used will be Michelins.
Once the car is delivered to DAMS, a two day shakedown will be scheduled on the Bugatti track in Le Mans.

Lamborghini FX: Crazy Cars Return among geymerov for sure it will be located numerous amateurs of the plainest racing arcades. Those, in which it is not necessary to break the head above the improvement of super-fast bolide, to consider the small of the details of the manner of its ride and entire to again and again attempt smoothly to enter into that treklyatyy turning - and all this so that although to one more position it will approach the five of leaders. But for the complete victory to you it will not enough be simply squeeze out the pedal of gas or jump on the springboards. In order to gain the top in the competitions, for geymeru it is necessary to resort to a number of the not entirely standard solutions: to strengthen its bolide by installations for the injection of nitrooxide, to obveshat' the housing of armor and to solder the smertoubiystvennye instruments. Only in this form we will be able to be assured whereas that in the first stage of races malicious vrazhiny will not crush us loved. According to the developers, to put the key of ignition into the the new Lamborghini we will be able already by this autumn.

09.06.2004 LAMBORGHINI HAVE CHOSEN THIS WEEK'S BEIJING MOTOR SHOW TO LAUNCH THEMSELVES INTO THE CHINESE MARKET, WITH THREE NEW DEALERS PLANNED BY THE END OF THE YEAR
In 2004, Automobili Lamborghini will achieve yet another goal in its market penetration strategy by making its debut on the important Chinese market, and will create important opportunities for development and further success of its trade mark.Founded in 1963, by Ferruccio Lamborghini, and owned by Audi since 1998, Automobili Lamborghini is based in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Bologna, Italy, and has over 700 employees. Lamborghini is currently producing two powerful supercars, the 6.2-litre V12 Murciélago and the 5.0-litre V10 Gallardo, both equipped with four-wheel drive, and both being shown at Auto China 2004.A third model, the Murciélago Roadster, was unveiled at the last Motor Show in Geneva and will be on sale at the end of 2004.The worldwide success achieved by the Murciélago and the Gallardo has had a strong impact in 2003 when Automobili Lamborghini reached an important sales record. In fact, last year, for the first time in its history, the House of the Bull delivered 1,305 cars all over the world and, in particular, 415 Murciélagos and a staggering 890 Gallardos, in its first year of marketing, with a turnover of €200 million, up from €93 million the previous year.Today, Lamborghini’s sales network lists 57 showrooms in over 20 countries worldwide, from Europe to the USA, to the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific area. Following the experience gained in other countries, Automobili Lamborghini has decided to create a distribution network in China as well, in order to act as a support for all its activities in the Chinese market. It is a structure that, as in Japan, will take advantage of the vast experience and prestige that the local Audi/Volkswagen importer has in the Chinese market.Naturally, the sales network will also be carefully nurtured in China, starting with the recent appointment of the first official dealer, Lamborghini Beijing, which will officially begin its activities at Auto China 2004 this week, and be followed by a further two during the course of the year in Shanghai and Guangzhou. The opening of the Beijing Motor Show was chosen by Automobili Lamborghini to mark the start of the commercialisation of its models on the important Chinese market. In 2004, Automobili Lamborghini counts on selling at least 20 Murciélago and Gallardo vehicles in China.

Now Gallardo Loses Its Roof
We brought you world exclusive news of one drop-top Lamborghini in issue 735, and now here's another scoop - the Gallardo is going topless.
An exclusive image in the current issue of Auto Express magazine shows how the car will look when it goes head-to-head with Ferrari's 360 Spider and Porsche's forthcoming 911 Carrera 4S cabrio. The aluminium roadster will use the hard-top's 500bhp 5.0-litre V10, making it one of the world's fastest convertibles. Expect a top speed in excess of 190mph and a 0-60mph time of around four seconds. Power will be fed though all four wheels, with a six-speed manual box as standard and optional paddle-shift sequential system.
The news came from Lamborghini chairman Werner Mischke, who let slip future product plans and revealed the Murciélago roadster will arrive next year - as we said in Issue 735 - followed by the Gallardo drop-top late in 2005. The car is in the early stages of development, and on-road testing has yet to begin. However, losing the roof will mean some re-engineering to retain the structural rigidity and fine handling balance.
A price of 120,000 Euros (£86,000) has been set for the hard-top Gallardo in left-hand drive European spec, but RHD cars will cost £100,000 in the UK. Expect the roadster to command a £10,000 premium. Bosses hope to sell 1,600 Gallardos a year by 2005, and the open-top will only take that higher. Chris Thorp

Gallardo Drop-top Ups Ante
A more extreme version of the yet-to-be-launched Lamborghini Gallardo drop-top is in development, Auto Express has learned.
Inspired by the Murciélago Roadster the project has yet to get the go-ahead from company bosses. However, insiders tell us it's been proposed in response to the race-bred F360 Stradale from Ferrari.
There's also news on the standard Gallardo convertible, pictures of which were first seen in issue 758. It's expected to cost £120,000 and, as with the coupé, will sport a 500bhp, V10 engine and six-speed, semi-automatic gearbox.
Lamborghini has also revealed plans to build a limited run of road-going versions of the Murciélago R-GT competition car unveiled at last autumn's Frankfurt Motor Show. Collectors will get the chance to buy the supercar, which will vary little from the carbon-bodied racer. Ferrari's Enzo had better watch out!
We've also learned the Murciélago Roadster will star in the next Batman movie. But it's a closely guarded secret whether the Italian supercar will be in Bruce Wayne's extensive garage, or be the wheels of choice for Gotham City's latest arch-criminal.

Actress Kelly Carlson finally gets it. FX's "Nip/Tuck" star got behind the wheel of $330,000 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster on Tuesday
and led a caravan of 50 Lamborghini luxury cars on a 300-mile cruise up the coast to Monterey.
It brought back memories of one of "Nip/Tuck's" most talked about episodes when plastic surgeon Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) is rewarded with a Lamborghini Murcielago after setting up a date between Carlson (Kimberly Henry) and another character.
"I've always thought about what it might be like to drive a Lamborghini so when I was invited to take part in this event I was excited, especially after last season when my character on `Nip/Tuck' was traded by her boyfriend for a Lamborghini. Now I know why," Carlson said.
"We thought it would be fun to invite her to test out the Murcielago Roadster," Lamborghini's North American chief Ehren Bragg said. "I've seen some pretty wild things done with our cars, but I don't think I've ever heard of trading a Lamborghini for a date.
"We thought she deserved a chance at a test drive."
The event was staged to celebrate the North American launch of Automobili Lamborghini's 2005 Murcielago Roadster, which will be publicly unveiled at Monterey's famed Concorso Italiano, a popular Italian car show.
The Lamborghini Roadster - a 580 horsepower V-12 with a top speed of 205 mph - arrives at dealerships this fall.

Taken from EVO Magazine
To capitalise on the presence of the Murciélago GT racer currently competing in the FIA GT championship (as a warm-up for Le Mans 2005), Lamborghini is to produce a special road-going version called the Murciélago R-GT. Just 25 are planned and they're expected to be launched at the end of 2005.
Prototypes are already being assessed at the factory. The most significant difference to the current production car is a change from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, in an effort to save as much weight as possible. The R-GT will use a revised V12 that's grown to 6.5 litres from the 6.2-litre unit in the current car. It will also come with ceramic brake discs as standard and it will be available only with Lambo's new E-Gear paddleshift transmission.
Power increases dramatically. Lamborghini insiders say this new version of the famous V12 is already producing in excess of 745bhp on the dyno but the company is planning to settle on a headline figure of around 650-680bhp for the finished production version of the engine.
One of the R-GT's goals is to beat arch rival Ferrari's performance figures for the Enzo; a 0-60mph time of less than 3.5sec is the current target. As well as the number crunching, Lamborghini wants the R-GT to engage the driver more than the rather aloof Enzo does. Expect a list price of around £230-240,000.
After these special 25 limited edition R-GT Murciélagos have been built, expect a revised version of the current road car, called either GT or SV. Regardless of what it's eventually called, the big news is that it will get the R-GT's ballsier engine, but not its rear-drive transmission. However, the existing four-wheel-drive system will be revised. Rather like the Diablo SV of the late '90s, shorter gearing could be an option, along with the ceramic brakes from the R-GT.
While all this is going on, Lamborghini will launch a Spyder version of the super-successful Gallardo. Unlike the clumsy canvas hood on the Murciélago, the Gallardo is expected to be launched with a fully automatic fabric roof that'll disappear under a tonneau between the cabin and engine cover when opened. And the car's vertical rear window will be electrically operated to act as a wind blocker when the roof's down.
For the 2006 model year (end of '05), Lamborghini will launch an SV version of the fixed-top Gallardo featuring a revised version of the V10, boasting at least 550bhp - it could be as high as 600bhp but the output will depend on the demands of the market and what rivals are doing in the run-up to the car's launch. This is intended to give a boost to coupe sales after the Spyder has been launched.
Meanwhile Lamborghini insiders have confirmed they're working on a possible sports off-roader, though probably nothing quite as extreme as the military-spec, V12-engined LM002 that terrorised sand dunes, high streets and petrol pumps in the late 1980s. If the SUV project progresses (and it's far from a certainty), it will probably share components with other SUVs being developed within the Volkswagen group, of which Lamborghini is a part, don't forget.
The company is also considering a V10-engined coupe along the lines of the four-seater Espada from the 1970s, designed to compete against the likes of the Ferrari 575.
Don't raise your hopes for either the SUV or the coupe - Lamborghini's engineers are so busy developing the core product lines that these tangential projects are very much in the background at the moment.

->Gallardo Spyder/Roadster: Will probably be launched in the first quarter of 2006. Is planned to have a revised 5.2-litre version of the current Gallardo engine with between 550 and 600 hp. It should have a fully automatic fabric roof and an electric vertical rear window.
->Murciélago R-GT road-going version: Only 25 are planned and it is to be launched towards the end of 2005. A 6.5-litre version of the well-known Lamborghini V12 will give the car around 650-680 hp. It will be a rear-wheel drive vehicle with E-gear and ceramic brake discs. This car is expected to be a real comptetitor to the Ferrari Enzo, and a 0-100 km/h time of less than 3.5 seconds is targeted.
->Murciélago GT or SV: Can be expected around the same time as the 2005 R-GT and should have the same 6.5-litre V12. It will receive a revised four-wheel drive system and a mild facelift. Shorter gearing and ceramic brake disks could be some options for this version of the Murciélago.
->Espada II: A long four-wheel drive saloon with V10 power in the nose and four seats is on the drawing board and could see the light of day in a few years. A rear hatch is planned and should ensure that it won't steal sales from it's blood brothers.
->Espada II two-seat cabriolet: Could be spun off the Espada successor project. Both V12 and V10 engines could power this vehicle.
->LM00X: Lamborghini is working on a sports off-roader inspired by the LM002. It will possibly be prepared in three version: A four-wheel drive advanced Reef Runner, a four-wheel drive simpler Road Runner and a two-wheel drive lower Race Runner. All are planned to have two doors with scissor set-up functionality.

Further Award Wins for Lamborghini in Germany - Double Win for Gallardo at the Essen Motor Show.
_______________
Automobili Lamborghini was presented with two important awards at the Essen Motor Show in Germany, both for its 10-cylinder 500 PS Gallardo sportscar.
Readers of the German magazine „sport auto“ voted the Lamborghini Gallardo as the „Sportiest Coupé over €90,000“ as part of the magazine’s „Sportiest Cars of 2004“ awards.
The Gallardo was voted into the top spot ahead of strong competition from the Aston Martin DB9, the Ferrari Challenge Stradale and 612 Scaglietti, and the Porsche 911 GT2. The „sport auto“ award was presented to Luc Donckerwolke, head of Lamborghini Design.
The Essen Motor Show also marked the occasion at which representatives from the German magazine „Auto Bild Test & Tuning“ presented Lamborghini with its award for the Gallardo. The magazine named the Gallardo as „Supercar of the Month“ for the month of April 2004.
These are not the first awards that Lamborghini has won in Germany. Earlier this year, the Murciélago was voted „Imported Super Sports Car“ by the readers of „Auto Zeitung“ magazine in the „Auto Trophy 2004“.
The Lamborghini Gallardo has won awards throughout the world this year. It was named as „Performance Car of the Year 2004“ by „Motor“ magazine in Australia, it received a British „Design and Art Direction“ (D&AD) award for product design, and in Canada it won a "Golden Key Award" (Clé d'or) from the editors of the reference book "L'Annuel de l'automobile 2005".

According to Autocar Magazine:
"Lamborghini could be on the verge of a revolutionary supercar step. The Italian firm is testing a diesel Gallardo, with power coming from the 5.0-litre 309bhp V10 VW engine. According to our sources, Lamborghini engineers are happy with the performance, especially the staggering 553lb ft of torque, but the problem lies with the power delivery, in part due to the narrow rev-range characteristics of a diesel engine.
Lamborghini is not the only company to look into an alternative fuel for a supercar. Toyota has a running prototype for a petrol-electric hybrid supercar, with a view to a launch in 2007."

From evo Magazine:

Lamborghini Ups The Stakes
Building the world's dirtiest car (see 'Eco Warriers' news story) hasn't stopped Lamborghini in the power stakes. It's set to make its Gallardo (image) even beefier to take on Ferrari's new F430.

700bhp Murcielago Confirmed
Following our news story in issue 73 outlining Lamborghini's plans for a new road-racer to back-up its Le Mans plans, more details of this exciting project have leaked out of Sant 'Agata.
It has been confirmed that the road version will produce a staggering 700bhp from its 6.5-litre V12, and with four-wheel drive being replaced by a rear-drive configuration, it has all the makings of the wildest Lambo ever.
The stripped-out road-racer will be known as the Murciélago GT-R and just 25 will be built. The new engine will then be fitted in a revised Murciélago for model year 2006.
Lamborghini is also planning to launch a more powerful Gallardo as a retort to Ferrari's 483bhp F430. The new car will boast a power output of 600bhp from its revised V10 and will come to the market a few months after this summer's launch of the Gallardo Roadster.
Audi is determined to continue the Lamborghini legend as Italy's wildest supercar manufacturer and will endeavour to make sure its cars are always one step ahead of arch rivals Ferrari in terms of power output and styling. Long may it continue.

USA 2005
Los Angeles - Detroit
Motor Shows
* The importance of the North American market for
Automobili Lamborghini
* The launch of the Murciélago Roadster
* Murciélago and Gallardo „Model Year 2005“
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Los Angeles/Detroit, January 2005
The importance of the North American market for
Automobili Lamborghini
The new year for Automobili Lamborghini opens once again with major events in the United States of America.
In addition to the traditional Detroit Motor Show (NAIAS) from 13-23 January in Michigan, 2005 will also see the official participation of Automobili Lamborghini at the Los Angeles Motor Show a few days beforehand (7-16 January).
At both Motor Shows, Lamborghini will display the 580 HP Murciélago Roadster and 500 HP Gallardo, and in Los Angeles, also the Murciélago Coupé.
The decision to take part officially for the first time in the Los Angeles Motor Show event is evidence of the importance of the North American market for the auto maker based in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
In 2004 Automobili Lamborghini took part in a number of events in North America.
After the Detroit Motor Show last year, the company took part in “Le Belle Macchine d’Italia” in Pocono (Pennsylvania), followed by participation in the “Concorso Italiano” in August in Monterey (California), where the Murciélago Roadster was officially unveiled.
Last October, Lamborghini cars took centre stage at “Columbus Day”, the traditional parade organized by the Columbus Citizen Foundation every year in New York to celebrate the talent and contribution of Italian-Americans to the United States of America.
The 60th edition of the parade took place on Fifth Avenue amidst large crowds and in the presence of VIPs from the worlds of Italian-American politics, business, sport and entertainment. It was opened by legendary racing driver Mario Andretti, who was appointed “Grand Marshall” of the event, at the wheel of a brand-new black Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster.
Maids of Honour at the event were other Lamborghini supercars from the past: a 1965 350 GT, a 1972 Miura SV, a 1985 Countach and a 1995 Diablo VT, all owned by Italian-American customers.
The parade also included a Lamborghini Gallardo, owned by the Italian State Police, which took part in “Columbus Day” for the first time this year along with representatives from the Police Force and New York Fire Department.
This unique light blue and white Gallardo – which was donated by the House of Sant’Agata last May during the Anniversary celebrations of the Italian State Police – led a fleet of New York Police Department cars.
The presence of Automobili Lamborghini at “Columbus Day“ 2004 – requested by the organizers of the event – once again confirms the distinctive characteristics of the House of the Raging Bull: uncompromising, extreme and unquestionably Italian.
By the end of 2004, Lamborghini had sold around 700 supercars in the USA and Canada. These included around 570Gallardo models, whilst around 130 were Murciélago models.
Globally, Lamborghini sold around 1600 supercars in 2004, with North America representing 40 percent of worldwide sales. It remains the largest export market for Lamborghini.
The launch of the Murciélago Roadster
Automobili Lamborghini has decided to launch the Murciélago Roadster on the North American market, and subsequently in all the other twenty countries in which the company has a sales organization.
The Roadster – which has already attracted great interest from North American dealers and clients – is a continuation of the Italian tradition of open cars, particularly the cars that have made the Lamborghini name what it is today.
Confirming and strengthening the extreme, exclusive character of the Murciélago Coupé, the Roadster is the “icon” of the new Lamborghini era.
The design of the Murciélago Roadster is exclusive, aggressive and extreme. Whilst designing the Roadster, Luc Donckerwolke – the head of the Centro Stile at Lamborghini – did not settle for simply “cutting” the roof off the Coupé, but gave the open car an original look and a special feeling, a styling of its own, making the Murciélago Roadster absolutely unique.
The Murciélago Roadster was recently voted as the world’s most beautiful supercar as part of the „The World’s most Beautiful Automobile 2004“ awards. The decision was taken by an international jury comprising designers, car and art historians, and specialist journalists.
Based on the technology of the Murciélago Coupé, the Roadster version differs in several key features, such as new parts of the frame, in steel and carbon fibre, designed for additional torsional and flexural rigidity. Incorporated into the overall design philosophy, one of these features, the engine frame, is offered as an option in visible carbon fibre.
Without altering the extreme nature of the car, a soft top can be fitted. It is designed – as is the tradition for this type of vehicle – solely for temporary use (for example a sudden shower) and for speeds of up to 160 km/h (100 mph).
Special attention was nevertheless paid to safety. The Murciélago Roadster is fitted with a special automatic, electronic roll bar which is activated in a few milliseconds from the housing behind the seats in the event of an emergency (roll-over).
The dimensions are the same as for the Coupé. Only the height is different: the Murciélago Roadster is nearly 70 mm lower.
The engine is what a Lamborghini is all about: a 12 cylinder V60° of 6192 cc producing 580 HP (426KW) at 7500 rpm and maximum torque of 650 Nm at 5400 rpm with L.I.E. Lamborghini electronic control. The gearbox is the same as in the Coupé: a manual 6-speed. A robotized 6-speed e-gear system is also available as an option.
The Roadster, like all Lamborghinis, is equipped with permanent 4-wheel drive.
The top speed of the Murciélago Roadster, depending on aerodynamic configuration, is over 320 km/h (around 200 mph).
The Murciélago Roadster is the most extreme and exclusive product line. The interior has so-called asymmetrical open-worked leather upholstery (left-right split). The driver’s area is a genuine “Pilot-Oriented Challenger“.

Murciélago Coupé and Gallardo
Model Year 2005
The other two models in the Lamborghini range, the Murciélago Coupé and the Gallardo, have benefited – in their Model Year 2005 versions – from a number of significant changes.
Launched at the end of 2001 as the Diablo’s successor, the Murciélago Coupé has achieved great success and has added further prestige to the Lamborghini brand.
It has a 6.2 litre, 12 cylinder, 580 HP engine, which allows it to reach a maximum speed of over 330 km/h (205 mph) and to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.8 seconds.
With its 6-speed manual gear box, permanent four-wheel drive and an aggressive, but distinctly clean and elegant design, the Murciélago Coupé has beaten the most prestigious competitors in its segment, while also being accredited with many international awards. One of these, the Red Dot Design Award, was awarded to the Murciélago for being the “Best of the best for the highest design quality”.
In addition, the Murciélago – in the R-GT version – was available in 2004 to racing customers taking part in various Championships: FIA-GT, ACO, ALMS (American Le Mans Series) all over the world.
The 2005 Murciélago Coupé has some important differences compared to last year. Most importantly, it has a new braking system with even higher performance.
In particular, the diameter of the anterior and posterior discs has been increased. The front disc diameter has gone from 355 x 32mm, and the rear disc diameter from 332 x 32mm to 355 x 32mm.
The front callipers are also new and have 8 pistons; the rear callipers are unchanged but the diameter of the four pistons have been increased.
The power brake and the brake pump are newly designed and more efficient resulting in a 30% reduction in the pressure needed to be put on the pedal.
Braking performance is exceptional with, for example, a braking distance of 129,5 meters (deceleration 1,2 g) from 200 to 0 km/h.
The suspension system has been optimized thanks to the FSD technology (Frequency Selective Damping) which is specifically designed for sports cars. It enhances the road-handling performances while permitting driving comfort. In fact, the damping force is automatically adjusted depending on the excitation frequency input. The wiper system is also new. The “lifting system” is also new; it raises the nose of the car slightly where necessary. And the alloy wheels, the same as on the Roadster, are of a new design.
There are also some new options for the 2005 Murciélago Coupé. Clients can specify coloured brake callipers (yellow or silver), the Lamborghini badge on a coloured alloy wheel.
Launched in September 2003, the Gallardo has already been lauded by the international press and Lamborghini customers.
The Gallardo is a unique high-performance sportscar concept with a 5.0 litre, 10 cylinder, 500 HP engine, bodywork and spaceframe in aluminium, and permanent 4-wheel drive. Performance is impressive with a top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph) and 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.2 seconds.
Unsurprisingly, the Lamborghini Gallardo has already received a number of international awards: the Red Dot Design Award and, in Canada, a "Golden Key Award” (Clé d'or) from the editors of the reference book "L'Annuel de l'automobile 2005" and many others worldwide.
A significant feature of the Gallardo is the fine craftsmanship which can be seen in every detail. The interior is of the highest quality, using special materials with characteristic Lamborghini stitching.
The Gallardo comes with many new options, of course, including the e-gear sequential shift, for the 2005 Model “sports package”, satellite navigation system, transparent engine bonnet and track set-up (for an eventual sportive use), plus titanium painted rims, lifting system (standard in the USA) and Lamborghini badge on the wheels.
Add to that the sports and snow tyres, which were specifically developed by Pirelli for the Gallardo.

March 2005
A record 2004 for Automobili Lamborghini
2004 was a record year for Automobili Lamborghini
in terms of sales and production.
Sales of Lamborghini supercars increased by 22%
in 2004, with a record 1,592 units being sold around
the world (1,305 in 2003). Of this number, 1,215
were Gallardos and 377 were Murciélagos; 65 of
these Murciélagos were Roadsters, destined mainly
for the North American market. Total sales of
Lamborghini’s 500 PS Gallardo now stand at over
2,000 cars (1,215 in 2004, 890 in 2003), which means
it is already the 2nd best-selling Lamborghini ever.
The United States of America remained Automobili
Lamborghini’s most important market in 2004, representing
41% of total sales. Germany, which represents
13% of global sales, is the most important
European market, followed by Great Britain with
9%. Italy - a market which is destined to grow -
accounts for 5%. In Asia, Japan is the most important
market with 8% of global sales in 2004.
Lamborghini revenues in 2004 grew to € 243 million
(€ 200 million in 2003) and with a positive result.
The number of personnel employed by Automobili
Lamborghini has also increased, moving up to 726
in 2004 (685 in 2003).
The Lamborghini “Concept S”
At the Geneva Motor Show, the House of the Raging
Bull presents a new design study that renews a great
Lamborghini tradition.
Like the 350 GTS and the Miura Roadster before it,
the Lamborghini “Concept S” is a unique car, an
extreme and spectacular expression of the Lamborghini
brand.
Created at the Centro Stile Lamborghini in Sant’Agata
Bolognese by Luc Donckerwolke, Head of
Lamborghini Design, the “Concept S” is his extreme
interpretation of an „open car“. Using the Gallardo
as a basis, Donckerwolke drew inspiration from the
classic single-seater racing cars of the past to create
this latest design study.
The classic single-seaters did not have a traditional
windscreen, but utilised the so-called „saute-vent“ (in
French: a sudden change in the wind) in order to direct
air over the head of the driver - and so does the
“Concept S”. These devices divide the cabin into two
distinct compartments, giving the car an aggressive
and futuristic look and also creating a space between
them that acts as an additional air inlet for the powerful
engine, which is positioned behind the seats.
An electronically controlled, retractable central rear
view mirror allows the driver - when required - to see
what is happening behind the car.
The aerodynamics of the “Concept S” have been
optimised thanks to front and rear spoilers and a large
rear diffuser.
The Lamborghini range at Geneva
Little over three years after presenting the first model
of its new “era”, Automobili Lamborghini now has
a range of three supercars which can be purchased in
over 20 countries around the world.
At the International Motor Show in Geneva,
Lamborghini presents the Murciélago, the Gallardo
and the Murciélago Roadster.
To further confirm the extreme character of the brand,
these cars will be displayed in highly- personalised
versions.
On show in Geneva in the special white colour, “Ballon
White”, the “icon” Murciélago has achieved great
success and adding further prestige to the Lamborghini
brand name.
This supercar has a 12-cylinder, 6.2 litre, 580 PS
engine which allows it to reach a maximum speed of
over 330 km/h (205 mph) and accelerate from 0 to
100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.8 secs.
With its six-speed manual gearbox (or the sequential
e gear system), permanent four-wheel drive and
aggressive yet elegant design, the Murciélago has
beaten the most prestigious competitors in its segment,
gaining much international recognition.
The 2005 Model Year Murciélago has some important
modifications compared to last year.
Most importantly, it has a new braking system with
much higher performance levels than before. The
diameter of the front disks and the rear disks has been
increased, and the front callipers are new and feature
eight pistons. The rear callipers remain unchanged,
but the diameter of the four pistons has been increased.
Braking performance is exceptional, and the braking
distance from 200 to 0 km/h is now 129.5 metres
(deceleration of 1.21g).
The automated suspension system has been optimised
with FSD (Frequency Selective Damping), and the
windscreen wiper system is also new. The “lifting
system”, which raises the nose of the vehicle up by a
few centimetres when necessary, has also been
upgraded. And the alloy wheels are now the same as
those fitted to the Murciélago Roadster.
There is also now a greater choice of options for the
2005 Murciélago, which allow greater personalisation.
For example, the carbon “package” for the interior.
Like the Murciélago, the Gallardo is on display at
Geneva in the new colour “Ballon White” and also
features carbon inserts throughout its interior.
The Gallardo has enjoyed great success with both the
international press and Lamborghini customers,
proving itself to be an authentic sportscar and entering
its market segment with real impact.
The Gallardo is a truly unique high-performance
sportscar concept. It features a 10-cylinder, 5.0 litre
500 PS engine, aluminium spaceframe and bodywork,
and permanent four-wheel drive. Naturally,
performance is supreme: a maximum speed of 309
km/h (192 mph) and acceleration from 0 to100 km/h
(0-62 mph) in 4.2 seconds.
It is no coincidence that the Lamborghini Gallardo
has received a number of important international
awards.
Murciélago Roadster
The Murciélago Roadster confirms and strengthens
the extreme, exclusive character of the Murciélago.
It is a truly unique model, rather than merely a Coupé
with the roof cut off, and will be presented at the
Geneva Show in an aggressive colour, Pegasus Black.
The Murciélago Roadster differs from the Coupè in
some important details, with the new structural chassis
components - in steel and carbon - which have been
designed so as to ensure adequate torsional and
flexural stiffness, even though there is no roof.
Without altering the extreme features of this car, there
is also the possibility of mounting a soft top, conceived
- as in the tradition of this type of car - solely for
temporary use (for example, a sudden shower).
Naturally, special attention has been paid to safety,
with a special automatic, electronically-controlled
roll bar which extends from its housing behind the
seats in milliseconds in an emergency situation.
Like the Coupé, The Murciélago Roadster is equipped
with the 12-cylinder Lamborghini V60° engine with
a displacement of 6192 cc, with permanent fourwheel
drive and can be fitted with either a six-speed
manual gearbox or the sequential e gear system. It
can reach (open) a maximum speed of over 320 km/h
(around 200 mph).
The fine craftsmanship typical of Lamborghini can
be seen in every detail. In particular the interior, which
is of the highest quality and features prestigious
materials.
The Gallardo, too, can be enhanced with many options,
such as the sequential e gear system, satellite
navigation, transparent engine cover, “track set-up”
(for use when racing), winter tyres, coloured titanium
wheels, and a lifting system. The possibilities for
personalisation are also varied and numerous.
The high-performance braking system introduced on
the Roadster is now also fitted to the Coupé version.
In short, the Murciélago Roadster is the most extreme
and exclusive product. Its interior features carbon
inserts and “asymmetric” leather upholstery: the left
side is fitted with a different material to the right side
and is perforated. The entire driver’s side of the
cockpit is oriented towards him or her, making the
Roadster a “Pilot-Oriented Challenger”.

The Gallardo Roadster will be presented in September 2005.
During a very secret meeting at the factory in Sant'Agata, a select group of people that were invited by Automobili Lamborghini SpA was shown the new Lamborghini Gallardo Roadster version, a open evolution of the very successfull Gallardo V10 model.
Naturally it was not allowed to take photographs of this brand new car, but it became obvious that the Concept S shown at Geneva last March was not a preview of the Gallardo Roadster. The massive divider between the two seats will not appear on the production model, neither will the very nice rear view camera system nor the low windshield.
The Gallardo Roadster will however feature a strong roof configuration, like on the Murcilago Roadster, the engine cover will open in the opposite direction when compared with the closed version, but the roof will actually be able to reach the top speed when fitted, if it will be a canvas roof or a metal/Carbon Fiber roof isn't really clear yet.
The Gallardo Roadster will use a new wheel design that will also appear on the closed Gallardo and a few details will be redesigned for the 2006 model year, also note that the Murcilago will receive a modified engine, probably a 6.5 Liter version with a higher power output rating. Also the design of the front and rear bumper and the side skirts has been made more aggressive for the 2006 evolution of the Lamborghini flagship ...
We'll probably have to wait until the Frankfurt Auto Show (15. - 25. September 2005) to see the first public presentation of both the Gallardo Roadster and the MY 2006 Murcilago, but it is clear that they aren't sleeping at Sant'Agata, some very exciting things are still on their way ... this is just the beginning ...
Ultimate Murcielago
Lamborghini has unveiled the all-new Murcilago SV, featuring the most powerful road engine the Italian firm has ever built. The heavily modified V12's capacity has grown from 6.2 to 6.5 litres, and with it power has leapt from 570bhp to 650bhp.
Four-wheel drive will continue to keep the stunning machine on the road, but a wider range of options will be offered to drivers looking to personalise their cars. Two highlights joining the list of extras are a clear engine cover and high-performance carbon ceramic brakes.

As of 1st June 2005, Dominik Hoberg (34) is Director of Corporate Image at Automobili Lamborghini, a new function in the company. He is responsible for strengthening the image of the House of the Raging Bull worldwide.
In this new position, Hoberg coordinates the activities of the Merchandising department and also the Communication department, which remains the responsibility of Sergio Fontana (54), the Press Spokesman for the company.
Dominik Hoberg, who reports to Stephan Winkelmann, the President of Automobili Lamborghini, was born on 17th November 1970 in Cologne. He worked previously at Fiat Automobil AG (Germany), where he was Press Spokesman for the Alfa Romeo and Lancia brands.
SantAgata Bolognese, 7th June 2005
There's no let-up at Lamborghini. Auto Express broke exclusive news of the Espada-inspired 2+2 in Issue 840, and we can now confirm more details - including the name. Our exclusive pictures in this week's issue prove the car will be called the Lagartijo.
The move will disappoint enthusiasts who had hoped the evocative Espada badge would be reborn. Instead, the sleek four-seater will take its name from the fabled Spanish matador who spared the life of the courageous bull Murcilago. This is an appropriate choice; the creature has already given its name to the company's 162,000 coup.
There are obvious similarities with the legendary Sixties Espada, including two doors and pronounced overhangs. Other elements include the near-flat rear windscreen, which is tipped to hinge as a hatch, giving access to a sizeable boot.
The newcomer features carbon fibre construction, keeping weight to a minimum. Power will be taken from the Murcilago's 6.2-litre V12, delivering 620bhp. Sales are expected to begin in 2009, with the car costing an estimated 180,000. Ferrari's current 2+2, the V12 Scaglietti, carries a 170,500 price tag.
According to our sources, development of the GT means that a proposed SUV from Lamborghini - to be based on Audi's forthcoming Q7 - is now unlikely.

I understand that Lamborghini will be introducing a version of the Gallardo coupe called the Piton. 250 units to be produced worldwide, of which the US will get 90. Here is what I have heard:
- 20 hp more, to 520 HP
- Top of the car from A to C pillers will be black (like the G Spider front windscreen)
- Spoiler will be black
- Gallardo Spider rims standard
- Pirelli Corsa track tires (although street tires can be ordered)
- Upgraded engine (more hp), suspension (lower and tighter), gearbox (shorter ratios)
- Darkened taillights
- Integrated rear camera (NAV can be optioned in)
- Stainless steel kickplates
- Upgraded leather
Orders are being taken now for delivery in September 2005 and beyond. Will also be offered in a new color, a sort of Pearl White.
Priced about 10.5% higher than the base G coupe, putting it around $200K.
More power, but also more weight. Nonetheless, looks to be very mean.
Can't wait to see some pics of it!

The upcoming Gallardo Special Edition which will be called, the Pitn. The production for this car will be limited to 250 cars for the world and 93 for the US market. Your allocation for the Pitn will be as follows:
August Production = 1
September Production = 2
This is for each dealership I guess. Also the car also features 20hp gain over the previous model. According to me salesman theres also more torque to the previous model. Its close to 510nm. Also the top speed has been improve to 315km. More direct steering then the previous model and the gear ratios are shorten. When you order the car you can actually engrave your name on it. I didn't do it but you have the choice to do it. Theres also a built-in camera installed on rear spoiler which is actully standard for this car. The Piton has black top to it. Its actully bi-color exterior. The black transparent engine bonnet is also considered standard on the car. The rears lights are also darkened out compared to the previous model. This car also has left system included for the front. This is considered standard for the car too. The color I picked out was Baloon White. If you guys have any questions on this car I will try best to answer back.

"Got some more info this week about the gallardo spider:
But first - here is what I am ordering for my Spider - put some of the pre-specs in this week on her:
Color will be the Dark Grey (like a metallic Pewter) - So about 2 tones darker than the Murci Titanium. This color is available on the Murci in 05 - I have only seen 1 or 2 pics - but picture dark grey metallic. It is a special order for the Spider. Option Price (if it does not become a standard color for the Gallardo - which as of right now it is not) - $4,800.
The Interior will be two tone Black with Red inserts - and red piping. (Do not ask me to remember the fancy names they give these colors - I do not remember.
I have decided to go with the 6 speed manual
Here are the other options I will be getting - Navigation, Back up sensor, car cover, Coming home, on board computer, I am sticking with the black Break Calipers with the exterior color - I didn't think silver would look good). Power and heated seats, etc.
I also got the branding package that will have Gallardo Spider on the dash, the Lambo bull on the head rests and I think it also will say Spider on the back right rear.
__________________________________________________ __________
Couple of tidbits in no particular order that I did not know:
1.) From what we all know there will be basically 3 models of the Gallardo. The Coupe, The Piton, and the Spider. From what I am hearing the Coupe will have the 493 (aka 500hp) engine. Only the Piton and the Spider will have the 522Hp engine. Interesting to say the least if this is true...
2.) As you have seen in a few other posts - there are various packages you can get: Smokers Package (Ash Tray and not sure what else comes with smokers package - humidor maybe . If you do not get the smokers package - you get a cup holder! Yes you heard it - cup holder (I am getting this one - but will never use it
3.) There is the Carbon Fiber interior package - which I think is available on the 05 coupes: this is going to be an $8,600 dollar option - I did not get this. It replaces the center consel, dash area, Stereo area, air vents and door open areas..
4.) There is a Leather Option - same as above - but in leather instead of carbon. OK - so picture the air vents in leather? I don't think so - I am sure the heat and cold air blowing on the leather will be good for it... And the description I read actually said the vents and openings would be in leather instead of black matte plastic...
5.) They are going to offer a special Leather as well - like the napa leather with the pin/vent holes kind of like the murci - I think this was a 4K option. Of which I did not order
6.) The GLASS BONNET will NOT be an option on the spider. Due to the placement of the top hold - which covers a large portion of the engine bay - this will not be an option.
I got to see/hear a ton of stuff and the pricing on the options as well - I should be able to recall most if you all have any specifics that you want to know..."

AUTO SPIES WORLD EXCLUSIVE: More hot Lambo news
6/16/2005
Lamborhini's failed attempts to revitalize the 80's junior sports car called the Jalpa may be a step nearer thanks to Audi's engineering assistance.
The intension is a smaller car, drawn in the Gallardo mould but using a tuned Audi sourced V8 of around 330-bhp.
Just as with their Italian rivals, Lamborghini will also offer nothing more complex than a 6-speed manual gearbox and a hard lid. However, lightweight materials will make the tractor manufacturers car more agile and hopefully more rapid than Ferraris with a projected 4.5 secs to 60-mph and a 190-mph to speed.
You may find the Geneva motor show in 2008 the place to be.

" just spent 3 hours checking out the new Gallardo Spyder! It was the same yellow one you have seen in the spy pics that Allan posted earlier.
Here is some more info you may, or may not know about the car:
- The top is fully powered; just press a button to raise or lower the roof. It takes about 20 seconds to do this.
- The entire rear of the car from the beltline up tilts up from right behind the headrests and the roof panel stows away in a compartment in front of the engine. The process looks very similar to the way an SL or SLK folds its metal roof.
- Engine access is the same way as the lid opens to stow the roof; you simply pull it farther up. This gives you a bit more access to the engine bay but the rear hinge does make some things awkward.
- The complicated hinge mechanism does look like it might be something that you have to make sure stays in alignment.
- There is no glass engine cover panel option.
- The roof looks great up or down. The rear of the roof has small butresses to make the roofline more attractive when up.
- The rear window is glass and is separate from the roof. It is actually a powered window which means it slides up and down. This means that with the top down, you can still lift the rear window and use it as a wind deflector! If you have seen the TT Roadster it has a similar arrangement which is not unusual considering the cars share the same parents. The difference is that the TT still has a glass built into the roof in addition to the powered windscreen whereas on the Spyder, the rear window is also the wind deflector.
- I'm 6'2" and with the top down it does look like my forehead might get beat up by the wind. It feels like the header rail is right in your line of sight. With the top up, my hair slightly grazes the roof liner.
- The side view of the car does at leat give the illusion that the windshield is raked farther back than the coupe. Whether this is really the case, I don't know.
- The view through the windshield with the top up is similar to that of my Esprit so it felt very natural to me.
- The interior color scheme was charcoal leather with yellow piping and stitching which, coincidentally, is exactly the same as the one of my Esprit so I felt right at home.
- The car had eGear.
- The car did not have a Sport Exhaust option that I know of but it still sounded pretty good. I don't have enough experience to really compare it to the coupe, but it did sound meaner to me.
- I saw another Gallardo with Carbon Fiber replacing the silver trim and it was really nice! My car will have to geth this option when I take delivery. The silver stuff always looked cheap to me and seems to scratch too easily.
- Lambo is not confirming specs or prices on the car. No HP figures are being given so any claims you may have heard are pure speculation at this point. "

Lamborghini Gives Limited Green Light to Concept S
Date Posted 07-11-2005
SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy, Lamborghini will be building a new vehicle based on its Concept S, but will limit numbers to no more than 80 or 90, according to Automotive News Europe.
Though intended more as a demonstration of what could be done with the upcoming roadster version of the Gallardo, the Concept S proved to be such a hit with Lambo enthusiasts the company has decided to put the vehicle into production.
The company is still expected to go forward with a separate Gallardo Roadster, which could be named "Spyder" when it debuts at the Frankfurt auto show in September.
The Concept S originated in Centro Stile Lamborghini at the company's headquarters in Sant' Agata Bolognese, with primary responsibility going to the company's design chief, Luc Donckerwolke.
The production model will retain its "saute-vent," which divides the cockpit into two distinct sections, an electronically controlled retractable rearview mirror mounted in the center console, and the lack of a proper roof.
What this means to you: The Lamborghini Concept S's unorthodox appearance struck a substantial chord with enough potential buyers to warrant a production version of the car, much to the delight of enthusiasts.
apparently lamborghini is planning to produce the "Concept S." this vehicle is sepreate from the roadster version of the gallardo and is supposed to retain the duel cockpit design of the concept. i have to say i am very suprised to see this given its radical design but should be an interesting car.

We check out the Polizia Lamborghini Gallardo in Rome
The following is an extract from Roberto Giordanellis feature in Auto Italia magazine, Issue 108 2005. For access to the full feature, plus articles on driving the Maserati GranSport, the 2005 Villa d'Este Concours, the 2005 Pau Historic meeting, and much more, see www.auto-italia.co.uk
The Italian Polizia Stradale has scored a major PR triumph with the fabulous Lamborghini Gallardo. Stop Press - a second Gallardo has joined the force. Both cars are donations: the first from the Lamborghini factory and the second from an independent organisation.
Before you dismiss this PR coup d'tat as a media stunt, these patrols have teeth so watch out. The officers are the best of the best and go through a rigorous training schedule, while the cars are kitted out with the very latest high-tech equipment. Police forces worldwide are always keen to improve their relationship with the public. Getting people on-side is the key factor in efficient policing. The Italians are doing just that.
At the Rome HQ of the Polizia Stradale we found two of the nicest guys you could ever meet - two of the specially-trained police officers qualified for the Lamborghinis - AS, Massimiliano Finore and ASS, Giancarlo Bravo:
Q. You now have two Gallardos. How did the second Gallardo come about?A. It was donated to the Polizia Stradale by the Peretti Foundation of API Industries at the recent 152nd anniversary celebrations of this police force.
Q. The law enforcement work of the Polizia and the Carabinieri are different. Are the Carabinieri jealous that you have Lamborghinis?A. No. There is great friendship and a great rapport between the two forces. Anyway, they had Ferraris in the 1960s.
Q. Who drives the Gallardos?
A. There are eight officers qualified to drive this car. And there will probably be another eight for the second Gallardo.
Q. What will the second Lamborghini do?
A. The same duty as ours but we shall patrol the centre and the south of the country, while the new car will patrol the centre and the north of Italy.
Q. How does policing the north compare with policing the south of Italy?
A. This is a generalisation but let us say that the further south you go, the looser the interpretation of the law.
Q. What are the Gallardos duties?
A. Medical activities, some escort duties, PR work, traffic duties and crime-fighting. The automatic number plate recognition system automatically flags up any nearby suspects.
Q. How did you get the job?
A. The Ministry of the Interior selects the officers by examining their driving record.
Q. So only the best are chosen?
A. No (with a modest shrug). There are many fine officers in the force who could do this job.
Q. What does it take to be a traffic cop?
A. Assuming you have met the requirements for police duty and successfully qualified, you then need a further one-year training for traffic duties.
Q. How did you train to drive the Lamborghini?
A. We did a one-week course with the car at the Vallelunga race circuit with Lamborghini's chief test driver Giorgio Sanna.
Q. Have you ever been in a car with Lamborghini's legendary test driver Valantino Balboni?
A. No, but I have heard stories that make your hair stand on end from those who have. I believe that Lamborghini is building its own test track to solve the problems associated with high-speed road testing.
Q. Are the Gallardos used every day?
A. Most days yes, but not every day. When not in use they are on standby for immediate action should the need arise.
Q. Is there such a thing as a typical day for this car?
A. No; every day is different.
Q. Has this Lamborghini been reliable?
A. Yes. Extremely reliable. We have covered 34,000km since Lamborghini gave us the car last year.
Q. What is the public reaction?
A. Very enthusiastic. It creates lots of attention and lots of questions from people of all types. The police motto is Get close to the people. These cars certainly help us achieve a closer collaboration with the community.
Q. What crimes in Italy are on the increase?
A. There has been an increase in crime committed by armed criminal elements in the immigrant community, mainly from Eastern Europe, but that is the concern of the Carabinbieri. Our job is that of traffic cops. Drink-driving is common, also driving without insurance or on false papers. All of which need cops on the ground, not cameras.
Q. Why bother to stop speeders instead of just sending them the fine and penalty points?
A. A car owner can choose not to declare who was driving his or her car at the time of the offence. This incurs an extra 300 euros fine on top of the speeding fine but does not affect the penalty points.
Q. In the two years since the introduction of penalty points and tougher enforcement of motoring laws in Italy, have you seen any improvements in the accident statistics?
A. Yes. Fatalities and injury statistics are steadily falling but we still have a long way to go.
Q. You have many accidents at weekends involving young drivers. What is being done to address this?
A. If a young driver commits an offence, he receives double points for the first three years of driving. Where permitted, his maximum speed limit is 100km/h instead of 130km/h.
Q. What is the reaction of drivers who are stopped?
A. Amazement. We have to be careful as sometimes in heavy motorway traffic, issuing a ticket can cause jams as onlookers slow down for a look.
Q. Do you ever take the car to its 200mph top speed?
A. No. There is no need, and the speed differential would be dangerous for other traffic. We do sometimes travel at very high speed, and this is where the Lamborghini scores. Other police vehicles at their top speeds are less stable and less safe than the Gallardo. Being four-wheel drive, it is extremely sure-footed in the wet. We have also used it to good effect in snow with the appropriate tyres.
Q. Recently in the UK a British traffic cop was caught testing a car at 160mph. The magistrate let him off but the press made a meal of it. What would have happened in Italy?
A. The same. The Italian press would have eaten him alive.
Q. You have little room left for any extra equipment. How do you manage?
A. If we need back-up it soon arrives.
Q. What part of your job do you like most, and like least?
A. The job varies so much and there are no bad parts.
Q. Where are you both from?
A. We are both Romans.
Q. What do you drive off-duty?
A. A Ford Ka and a Peugeot 206. Both are suited to everyday battle in Roman traffic.
Q. This Lamborghini caused quite a stir when it went to New York for the Columbus Day celebrations. Did you go to the USA with it?
A. Unfortunately not, two other officers went. But we would like to come to London if you would like to organise an invitation!

Uhm.. I am a bit worried.. why to use that magic name again? The Miura is THE Miura, and no modern car will be able to come close to it.. but we will see :bah:

I can see them building it since they (VAG) already have developed everything a 1000hp car needs.
But that's actually a pretty old rumour. It's been up on italiaspeed for a while. Besides, it doesn't zoom in on the enzo, rather on its replacement, the F60.

Everyone has their particular way of reaching their inner depths: of going right to their limits and beyond.
In the case of unusual psychic and physical strain such as extreme sports, we experience direct and immediate confrontation with elements such as wind and speed.
It is then that the human body produces a heavy surplus of endorphins which gives us a buzz and reminds every fibre of our body that we are alive.
Are you ready to experience the extreme?
Are you ready to go to the limit?
Be prepared.

Driveable Lamborghini Concept S shown atMonterey and Pebble Beach in the USAThe House of the Raging Bull has shown the first driveable prototype of the Lamborghini Concept S at the Monterey Concorso Italiano and at the Pebble Beach Concours dElegance in the USA. The Lamborghini Concept S design study premiered at this years Geneva Motorshow as an extreme and spectacular expression of the Lamborghini brand. It was created at the Centro Stile Lamborghini in SantAgata Bolognese by Luc Donckerwolke, who drew inspiration from the classic single-seater racing cars of the past. The astonishing amount of public interest at the Geneva Motor Show prompted the decision to build a driveable prototype in order to further gauge potential customer demand. The Concept S represents everything that Lamborghini stands for. It is extreme, uncompromising and Italian, commented Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. A production decision has not yet been made, though we were encouraged by the positive response to the driveable prototype at both Monterey and Pebble Beach. The driveable Concept S prototype has only changed slightly compared to the original design study. For example, the so-called saute-vent windscreens were re-designed for homologation reasons. The look of the car results even more extreme than the original. Classic single-seaters did not have a traditional windscreen, but utilised the saute-vent in order to direct air over the head of the driver. In the Concept S, these devices divide the cabin into two distinct compartments, giving the car an aggressive and futuristic look.
They also create a space between them that acts as an additional air inlet for the engine, which is positioned behind the seats. And like the Gallardo, which serves as the basis for this stunning supersportscar, the Concept S is equipped with a powerful V10 engine. The aerodynamics of the Concept S have been optimised thanks to front and rear spoilers and a large rear diffuser. An electronically controlled, retractable central rear view mirror allows the driver to see what is happening behind the car - when required! In the picture : the President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini Stephan Winkelmann and the Designer Luc Donckerwolke.SantAgata Bolognese, 24th August 2005

New Gallardo Spyder
Two years after the launch of the Coup version of the Gallardo, Automobili Lamborghini is presenting the new Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This latest addition brings the marques range of supercars to four models.
The Gallardo Spyder is not just an open-top version of the Coup, but is a completely new model. It has an attractive new design and a unique system for opening and closing the fabric roof that utilises the engine compartment to store the folded roof.
The Lamborghini Centro Stile and engineers from the Research and Development team have worked in close partnership to develop this new design and to bring these clean and sharp lines on the road.
Design
The original design vision for the Gallardo was created in the year 2000 and this vision continues with the open version.
The dimensions of the Gallardo, combined with its competitive performance targets, ensure the car has an athletic compactness. The long wheelbase complemented by short overhangs dynamise its appearance. The Gallardo Spyder features typical and unique mono-volume proportions, which which integrate the Lamborghini design attributes of purism, athleticism and sharpness.
The cab-forward cockpit is integrated in the body by a strongly-slanted front screen and tensed pillars. The complex surfacing is intersected by crisp graphics and its detailing, which is orientated towards optimum cooling, evokes a strong aeronautical influence in its proportions and formal language.
Roof
The roof raising/lowering system of the Gallardo Spyder is based on an electronic control system with electrohydraulic actuators and comprises the following elements:
hood made from black fabric
electronic control system, integrated in the cars CAN-BUS network, that controls the movement of the roof
electric pump
engine bonnet (that also functions as a hood cover) made from carbon fibre
six hydraulic cylinders (four to operate the hood and two to operate the bonnet)
two electric actuators (one to lock the catch at the front of the roof and one to release the bonnet catch)
electric motor to raise and lower the rear window
The roof raising/lowering mechanism is extremely simple to operate by way of two push-buttons on the centre of the dashboard. And the whole operation takes just over 20 seconds.
The rear screen moves automatically while the roof is being opened or closed. This automatically-controlled movement always returns the screen to the raised position. The driver can also choose to have the screen in the lowered position (also with the roof raised) by pressing the appropriate button on the dashboard.
There is also a "service function" that positions the roof so as to allow access to the engine.
Great care has been taken over the structural design of the new Gallardo Spyder, which of course complies fully with all the relevant safety standards.
The space frame has been reinforced in the area of the sills and the A pillars have been strengthened with the adoption of an automatic Roll Over protection system (comprising two pop-ups") integrated with the air bag system.
All these solutions, which place Lamborghini at the very forefront of open top car design, were driven by the need to present to the public a true spyder characterised by a pure design.
Engine and Performance
The new Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder features a number of important modifications to the original engine and transmission from the Coup.
The 10-cylinder 4961 cc propulsion unit now develops 520 hp (382 kW) at 8,000 rpm.
The six-speed gearbox now has lower ratios (1st gear is 27% lower, 2nd gear is 13%, 3rd / 4th / 5th gears are all 6% lower, while 6th gear is 3.5% lower), which create a more dynamic performance.
The steering is also more direct and precise and the suspension has been recalibrated.
Like the other models in the range, the Gallardo Spyder also benefits from aluminium bodywork and features permanent four-wheel drive.
And finally, its performance figures: the Gallardo Spyder which complies with EURO 4 homologation standards reaches a top speed of 314 km/h with the roof up and 307 km/h with the roof down, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
Equipment
Amongst its standard equipment the following items are particularly worthy of mention:
power steering fluid cooler (for sports use)
automatic door locking at speeds of over 15 km/h
Lamborghini Multimedia System as standard (not available for Japan)
There are also new body colours available. In addition to those current range of Gallardo colours, the new Gallardo Spyder is also available in the two special colours: Celeste Phoebe (light blue) and Verde Picus (green). There are also new colours also for the leather interiors: Marrone Janus (brown) as the main colour, Bianco Polar (white) as a contrast colour, and carpets in Marrone Janus (brown), Rosso Centaurus (red) or Arancio Leonis (orange).
There is also a range of optional equipment that makes the Gallardo Spyder even more exclusive, including:
video camera on the rear spoiler (available also on the Coup version)
new colour/perforated leather combinations for the dashboard, seats and door trim
contrast colour stitching
Other optional equipment (also on the Coup version) includes:
a choice of colour and leather and/or Alcantara combinations
anti-theft system, heated mirrors, onboard computer, protective cover, coming home function, e-gear, set of two suitcases, lifting system, navigation system, coloured Lamborghini logo on wheel rims, rear spoiler, smokers version
various packages to customise the car: leather package, carbon fibre package, branding package, winter package, travel set and sports set-up.
silver Callisto wheels
heated electric seats
coloured brake calipers
Gallardo SE
The Lamborghini Gallardo SE (Special Edition) is limited to 250 units. It is characterized by two-tone body paint, an even more sporty interior and technical improvements.
The basis for the Special Edition is the extreme and uncompromising Lamborghini Gallardo.
The Lamborghini Gallardo SE is equipped with permanent four wheel drive, 6 speed gearbox, aluminum space frame, ESP and ASR, ABS, ABD, air conditioning, as well as two front and two side airbags.
The color range consists of six alternatives: two grey shades, Grigio Altair and Grigio Proteus, as well as Balloon White (white), Giallo Midas (yellow), Arancio Borealis (orange) and Verde Ithaca (green). The roof, engine bonnet, front and rear spoiler as well as the two side mirrors are painted in Nero Noctis (black), making them stand out against the body color. The rear lights are slightly tinted. The newly designed Callisto rims give an extra touch to the overall appearance, which is complemented by the colored brake calipers (available in grey or yellow).
The interior design reflects the two-tone concept by having all piping and stitching matching the exterior body color of the car. The Lamborghini shield is embossed on the headrest of the driver and passenger seats. The Lamborghini script has been carefully inserted into the dashboard. The carpets are black having borders that match the exterior body color of the car. Needless to say, the entire interior is handcrafted in partially perforated leather of supreme quality. The interior design underlines the new, more aggressive personality of this Special Edition.
The limited Special Edition is richly equipped with standard features such as a rear view camera, which, in combination with the built-in multimedia screen, facilitates parking. The sports suspension, P Zero Corsa tyres (specifically developed by Pirelli for more sporty driving) and sports steering wheel are all standard features on the Special Edition. The long list of standard equipment also includes an exclusive car cover.
A considerable range of additional equipment is available. Customers can also choose the robotized e.gear gearbox, as well as a navigation system (depending on the country), heated side mirrors, fully electrical and heated seats. A winter package (heated seats, side mirrors, heated wash jets, rubber floor mats, 12 Volt outlet), and a lifting system are also available. Standard tyres instead of sports tyres can be ordered at no extra cost.
The Gallardo SE benefits from several technical modifications. The 10-cylinder engine has the same power has the new Spyder, with 520 hp (382 kW) at 8000 rpm. The result is shown in the improved acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds (4.2 seconds previously), while the top speed is now 315 km/h (309 km/h previously).
These new performance levels are shown impressively on a car equipped with e.gear and a feature called thrust mode. This optimizes acceleration and gear changes from a standing start through all gears.
Additional modifications mean more direct and precise steering, which improve even further the superb handling of the vehicle.
Gallardo Model Year 2006
The technical modifications made to the Gallardo Spyder and Gallardo SE also apply to the Gallardo Model Year 2006. The Gallardo Spyder, Gallardo SE and Gallardo MY 06 all fully comply with EURO 4 homologation standards.
Thanks to an increased engine power of 520 hp and lower ratio gears, the Gallardo MY 06 can reach a top speed of 315 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds.
Equipment levels have also been enhanced and include such items as the new Lamborghini Multimedia System (CD-changer, MP3 player and radio), new colours for the interior trim, a non-smoking version (where the cigar lighter is replaced by a 12V socket).
There are also three new colours to choose from: these are Verde Faunus (green), Blu Fontus (blue) and Grigio Proteus (grey). Some changes have been made to the existing colour range: Rosso Leto replaces Rosso Metis (red) and Nero Serapis replaces Nero Osyris (black).
There are also new colours for the interior leather: Arancio Leonis (orange) replaces "Mira" and Rosso Centaurus (red) replaces Rosso Mysia (red).
There is a new range of optional equipment for the Gallardo MY 06, including a series of "Packages:
The Branding Package: Lamborghini script on dashboard
Lamborghini logo in relief on the head rest
Coloured logo on the wheels
The Travel Package: Storage box located under the steering wheel
Storage nets on the backs of the seats
Cup holder
The Winter Package: Heated mirrors, seats and screenwash nozzles
Black carpets
Winter tyres with titanium Cassiopea wheels
12 V socket in the boot
Optional equipment for the Gallardo 06 also includes the rear video camera and a TV-tuner (not available for USA/Canada and Japan).
Other options include new "Callisto" wheels and the sports setup for the MY 06 model, with racing steering wheel, steering and suspension.
There is also a range of customised options for the Gallardo MY 06 (under the name Privilege Programme), which gives customers the possibility to purchase an even more exclusive and truly unique car.
Murcilago Model Year 2006
There are new features on the Lamborghini flagship, the 12-cylinder Murcilago Model Year 2006 (Coup and Roadster).
The most important of these is without doubt the possibility to equip the car with carbon-ceramic brakes.
Carbon-ceramic discs offer clear benefits:
braking efficiency remains constant at both low and high temperature, with no fading, even after hard use
improved handling, agility and efficiency
shorter braking distances with reduced pedal effort
These advantages are complemented by:
longer lifetime
lighter than steel
state of the art system
The Murcilago MY 06 also complies with EU4 standards (ECE)
The Murcilago MY 06 has a new standard equipment package, which includes a Becker navigation system (not for the USA) and a range of new options.
Optional equipment includes the Interior Carbon Package, where a number of the interior components are made from carbon fibre:
cover for the driver side display
dashboard cover (right and left sides)
handbrake lever
cover for the air conditioning and radio
handles on the sides of the centre tunnel
gearlever cover
frame around the armrest
ashtray
A further optional extra is the Branding Package, which comprises the Lamborghini logo in relief on the headrests and the coloured Lamborghini logo on the wheels.
The Murcilago MY 06 Coup is now also available in the exclusive new colour Oro Adonis (gold), already available for the Roadster version.
The "Privilege Programme" car customisation option is also available for the Murcilago MY 06.

"Geneva will see the launch of the street version of the R-GT (to hommolgate the cars ready for Le Mans next year) as well as the next-gen Murcielago's - both Coupe and Roadster with the new 6.5L V12 - road trim will be 650hp (but engine has been regularly giving 720hp on the bench). Cars will have the face-lifted bodywork and a couple of minor interior tweaks.
Supposedly R-GT "style" bodywork will be an optional extra on the standard Road cars and there will be an enhanced range of "personalisation" features to "customise" the cars from the factory."

Gallardo to be Raffled Off in New York City
________________________
Its hard to think of an American city less-well suited to the Lamborghini Gallardo than New York. Nevertheless, a raffle to benefit the Columbus Citizens Foundation (and no, its not a society to aid Ohioans in a bid to build a permanent monument to the New Bomb Turks; rather, they offer scholarships and organize the NYCs Columbus Day Parade) will be held on October 7th. The holder of the golden ticket will drive off in a black-over-red 05 Gallardo, which will be displayed in Grand Central Terminal starting September 25th. The tickets are a grand a pop; 300 will be sold. Philanthropist gamblers, heres your chance to score the fruit of Donckerwolkes loins for a mere fraction of a percent below list!

11.11.2005 THE GALLARDO IS NOW THE MOST PRODUCED LAMBORGHINI IN HISTORY - BREAKING THE DIABLO'S RUN OF 2,903 UNITS OVER TEN YEARS - AS GALLARDO NUMBER 3,000 HAS JUST LEFT THE SANT'AGATA ASSEMBLY LINE IN JUST A FIFTH OF THAT TIME.
__________________________________________________ ______
The Lamborghini Gallardo is now the most produced Lamborghini in the Italian sportscar maker's history, as Gallardo model number three thousand has just rolled of the assembly lines. Just two years after the model's launch, the 3,000th Lamborghini Gallardo has left the assembly line at the SantAgata Bolognese located factory. The 10-cylinder Lamborghini is now the most produced (and sold) model in the history of the House of the Raging Bull. The Gallardo has also now exceeded the Diablos record of 2,903 units produced, which actually took it more than ten years to reach.
The completion of Gallardo number 3,000 was celebrated at the end of the Bologna assembly line by the Lamborghini employees' who contributed to its production, joined by Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., and by Klaus-Peter Krner, the Plant's Director.
We are very proud, because we achieved this new record in only twenty-four months, said Stephan Winkelmann. Equipped with a 4961cc, 10-cylinder engine with 520bhp (382 kW), the Lamborghini Gallardo reaches a top speed of 315 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. In September the Gallardo, the second new model to arrive on the market since the takeover by Audi, was joined by a convertible sister, the Gallardo Spyder.

Lamborghini CEO: No Final Decision Yet On SUV, Grand Tourer
______________
AMSTERDAMLamborghini has yet to make a final decision on an SUV model or a 2+2 grand tourer, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in an interview with Auto Telegraaf.
The Dutch auto-enthusiast magazine said Winkelmann did confirm plans for a rear-wheel-drive version of the Lamborghini Gallardo that would be lighter and less expensive than the all-wheel-drive model.
Winkelmann also addressed concerns about cannibalization between the Audi and Lamborghini brands, especially in the light of Audi's announcement about its R8 supercar. He said Lamborghini will remain the top marque in the Volkswagen group.

"SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy Lamborghini seems to have had a change of heart over its retro Miura supercar.
The Italian company has been flooded with inquiries about the car since it was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this month.
Now it looks like a low-volume production run of the car, based on the classic 1960s original Miura, is likely. This is a happy change of plans. As Inside Line reported earlier this week, Lamborghini had hinted the car might never be built because of capacity constraints at its plant. An official announcement about production may be made at Geneva next month, where the Miura will be on display.
Meanwhile, Lamborghini is also planning to build a luxury SUV, based on the running gear of the new Audi Q7. It would be a serious rival to the Porsche Cayenne in the growing luxury SUV sector, and appears to have jumped ahead of a four-seat sports car in Lamborghini's future-product planning.
Lamborghini president Stephan Winklemann told British magazine Auto Express: "There is more need for an SUV, and parent firm Audi produces the Q7, so for me, this is a better option than a 2+2. We would like to do more, but we are a small company and can't build all the models we want at once."
What this means to you: Great news if it's true about the Miura, which is sure to become an instant classic. And if Lambo enters the SUV sector, it could trigger rivals to follow suit. Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and even Ferrari are all rumored to be considering hyperexclusive off-roaders. "

"Will the Mr.-concept presented at the Show of Detroit, ressuscitant mythical Miura, be at least produced in small series?
There still, we do not have the budget to develop a Miura news. But we are not with court of projects. We have being studied a version even more sporting, with two driving wheels, of Gallardo. And we will reserve a beautiful surprise with the visitors of the Show of Geneva (note: probably the outline of the half-compartment Lagartijo, 2+2 places with front V12 engine, which will be launched into 2009)."

Lamborghini promised all somehow to astonish
On the words of the head of company Lamborghini of Stephan Vinkel'manna (Stephan Winkelmann), all visitors of the stand of this model on the Geneva auto-salon, which will pass in the following month, awaits outstanding surprise. What surprise precisely prepared Lamborghini for the auto-show thus far not known; however, some specialists already advanced several assumptions.
One of the potential novelties of Italian stamp is the prototype of extra-road builder Lamborghini. Earlier we already reported, that this automobile can be built on the base of the platform of model Audi Q7 and in the case of series production will be obtained either the 400- strong motor V8 or the 500- strong engine V10. moreover, on some information, a similar extra-road builder can appear in sale as long ago as 2008.
The second aspirant to the role of "surprise" is prototype four-place sportkupe Lamborghini Espada with the landing formula "2+2". This automobile, on knowledges existing at the given moment, it is planned to build on the base of platform D4, which in the future will become basis for creating the new generations of the sedans VW Phaeton and Audi A8. the "large" sleeping compartment Lamborghini can be completed by engines V10 or V12, borrowed in models Gallardo and Murcielago respectively, and its series production it is planned to begin in 2007.
Finally, one additional novelty Lamborghini can become the conceptual sleeping compartment Miura, whose prototype was shown in the beginning of year on the auto-show in Detroit.

Lamborghini not for sale
Reports that Volkswagen might sell Lamborghini are entirely false, according to an Audi representative quoted by the AFX news service. Reports that the Italian brand might be for sale began circulating online after Germany's Auto Motor und Sport magazine said the company was considering selling the supercar maker. 2005 was an important year for Lamborghini in terms of new products and consolidation. Last year saw the production start of two new models at the Sant'Agata Bolognese plant, both equipped with Lamborghini permanent four-wheel drive: the Gallardo Spyder (5.0-litre, 10V, 520 hp) was subsequently presented at end-of-year international motor shows to go on sale in the spring, and the new Murcilago LP640 (6.5-litre, 12V, 640 hp) will be unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show.
The company, headed by Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, showed a strengthening in sales from 1,592 in 2004 to 1,600 units in 2005. Of these 1,071 were Gallardos and 529 Murcilagos, of which nearly half (250) were Roadsters. For 2006 Winkelmann expects a growth to circa 1800 units. By the end of 2005 and in just under three years, the Gallardo exceeded 3,500 production units to become the biggest-selling Lamborghini in history.
This allowed the Bologna car manufacturer to realize in 2005, as last year, a turnover of 243 million Euro and to close for a second consecutive year with a profit: 4.4 million Euro (4.1 in 2004).

In race with police cruiser, Lamborghini tanks
________________
Wednesday, March 29, 2006
BY DIANE C. WALSH AND TOM HAYDON
Star-Ledger Staff
The standard-issue Crown Victoria cruiser was no match for the 2006 Lamborghini.
Once the famed Italian sports car got above 100 mph as it fled from North Brunswick police on Route 1 north early yesterday, the officer broke off the chase.
But the V-10 Gallardo, which doesn't get great mileage, was apparently low on gas when the chase began, and the driver needed to make a pit stop to refuel.
That's when Edison police farther up the road caught the speeder.
Gianluca Siciliano, 38, of Torino, Italy, was arrested at an Edison service station on Amboy Avenue. He was charged with eluding police.
Police said Siciliano told them he was a representative of Lamborghini, the elite automaker based in Italy. A Lamborghini spokesman could not be reached yesterday.
Deputy Police Chief Don Conry said an officer using radar originally clocked Siciliano going 85 mph on Route 1 near Livingston Avenue in the northern end of the township.
"The officer pursued, accelerating to 100 mph, and saw the Lamborghini was rapidly pulling away from him," Conry said.
North Brunswick broadcast a description of the $175,000 sports car with Massachusetts plates. Edison police spotted it seven minutes later at 1:37 a.m., and Siciliano was arrested.
He was being held in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Bail was set at $10,000.
The Gallardo has a top speed of 196 mph, according to the automaker's Web site, but its 520-horsepower engine gets only 17 mpg highway, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. North Brunswick police use Ford Crown Victorias as their cruisers, which have standard engines, Conry said.
The state Attorney General has guidelines for high-speed chases that call for police to end pursuits when the speed creates a substantial risk to the officer or others, depending on the road conditions, the location, and the likelihood of catching the fleeing driver at another time, the deputy chief said.
Yesterday's chase "lasted probably seconds," Conry said.
"It became obvious that he (the officer) wasn't going to catch the car. The risk to the officer and the driver wasn't worth it. It was only for a speeding ticket," Conry said, "and as it turned out, we were able to catch the driver."

Automobili Lamborghini at the Techno Classica 2006
Two models represent the "House of the Bull" in Essen
The Lamborghini Miura's fortieth anniversary dominates Automobili Lamborghini"s attendance at
this year's Techno Classica (6 - 9 April 2006). To mark the occasion and in celebration of its long
and rich sports car tradition, Lamborghini is presenting two models at the world's largest motor
show for classic cars. The cars will be shown in Hall 7, Stand 509.
Along with the 1973 Miura SV from Lamborghini's collection from its factory museum in
Sant'Agata Bolognese, the "Lamborghini Miura Concept" design study will also be present. This
nostalgic reminder of the classic sports cars of the sixties and seventies is celebrating its German
premiere in Essen.
The Lamborghini Miura
In the autumn of 1965, Lamborghini presented its latest technical development at the Turin Motor
Show: a chassis equipped with all the mechanical components. The name: TP400. The abbreviation
stands for "Trasversale Posteriore" and reflected the engine's position and displacement: a four-litre
engine installed transversely in front of the rear axle.
The revolutionary concept was developed by engineers Gianpaolo Stanzani and Gianpaolo Dallara.
Instead of the tubes of round and oval cross-section common at the time, they used bent, cut,
welded and perforated sheet-steel panels for the chassis. The style was more reminiscent of aviation
than a car. The complicated sheet-steel structure formed the chassis of the vehicle, with attachment
points for the suspension, the cockpit and the entire drive train. The engine used was the V12,
already well-known and held in high esteem by automotive aficionados, and which delivered 350
bhp from 3,929 cc. However, it was given a new engine block, into which the young engineers
integrated the gearbox and clutch. Installed immediately behind the cockpit and in front of the rear
wheels, very close to the vehicle's centre of gravity, it delivered particularly advantageous weight
distribution. All the TP400 lacks is a body.
The interest shown by renowned international designers, who were all fascinated by the opportunity
to dress this exciting new chassis, led to a series of confidential discussions with Ferruccio
Lamborghini. The decision was finally taken in favour of Bertone, who officially declared in
February 1966 that Lamborghini had given them the job of designing a body for the chassis. The
Turin companys design boss, Marcello Gandini, had already started working on the project straight
3
after the Turin Motor Show, and the launch of the complete car was achieved in record time. After
just five months, one of the greatest masterpieces of automotive design made its debut at the
Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. It derived its name from Spain's wildest and most feared breed
of fighting bull: the Lamborghini Miura.
The Lamborghini Miura Concept design study
The Lamborghini Miura Concept design study, first exhibited at the Detroit Motor Show in 2006,
continues the line of the legendary Lamborghini Miura of the sixties.
The man responsible for this reinterpretation of the fascinating classic sports car is Walter deSilva,
Head of Design of the Audi brand group and now, since December 2005, also Director of the
Centro Stile Lamborghini.
The aim when developing the Lamborghini Miura Concept was to retain the extraordinary clarity
of the original design. For this reason, work was concentrated on perfecting the surfaces, in order to
emphasise the purity of form and proportions. The measured use of modern elements for the light
units and the wheels and in the interior keeps the design homogeneous.
Lamborghini had long harboured the desire to rework the classic design. Said deSilva: For the last
two years we have often dreamed of subjecting the Miura to a redesign. Now that I have also been
entrusted with the leadership of the Lamborghini design team, I am all the more delighted that I
have been able to implement this ambitious task as my very first project. Thanks to the enthusiasm
of Automobili Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, this dream has become a reality.
The Lamborghini Miura Concept is purely a design study. There are no plans for series
production. It should be seen rather as Lamborghini taking a bow to its own history.
4
Maintaining tradition at Lamborghini
Lamborghinis history is carefully maintained in many respects. The Lamborghini Museum in
SantAgata Bolognese, with its comprehensive collection of classic Lamborghini vehicles, is literal
concrete proof of the grand tradition of the brand. In addition to this, the Lamborghini Register,
initiated in 2003 to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the company, oversees research
into vehicles, their history and location, and the recording of the engineering and cultural heritage
that Lamborghini vehicles represent. The restoration centre dates from the same year. The studio
specialises in the restoration of vehicles made by Lamborghini which are in need of overhaul. Its
customers are provided with various services: from simple information, through specific advice, to
the complete restoration of the vehicle. Thanks to the company's historical archive, the team at the
restoration centre is in a position to supply colour samples of the original paints and leather, the
production data sheets, the operating and maintenance manuals, as well as the specifications of all
the models.
Automobili Lamborghini today
The product portfolio of Automobili Lamborghini includes the four model series: Gallardo,
Gallardo Spyder, Murcilago LP640 and Murcilago Roadster.
The Lamborghini Gallardo features a V10 engine which delivers 520 bhp and has a displacement of
4,961 cc. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 315 km/h. The
drive train of the mid-engine sports car includes permanent all-wheel drive, based on Lamborghinis
proven VT (viscous traction) system.
The Gallardo Spyder is not simply an open-top version of the Coup, but a separate model with
an attractive design and a unique system for opening and closing the soft-top hood, which
disappears into the engine compartment when folded up. Equipped with the same technology as the
Coup, the Gallardo Spyder reaches a top speed of 314 km/h with the hood closed and 307 km/h
with the hood down. It completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a scintillating 4.3 seconds.
Just recently launched at the Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Murcilago LP640 represents
the fastest and most extreme sports car in its class. The displacement of its V12 engine, mounted
longitudinally in front of the rear axle, is 6,496 cc. It delivers an impressive 640 bhp and accelerates
from 0 to 100 km/h in an excellent 3.4 seconds. As in the case of the Gallardo series, it has
permanent four-wheel drive.
5
The Lamborghini Murcilago Roadster continues the tradition of the open-top 12-cylinder model
from SantAgata. It is based on the predecessor of the Murcilago LP640. The engine is a V12, with
the cylinder banks set at an angle of 60 degrees, delivering 580 bhp (426 kW) and with a
displacement of 6,192 cc. It accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
All Lamborghini models can be equipped with an e-gear automated six-speed gearbox, which is
shifted by means of paddles on the steering wheel.

Lamborghini to open its first outlet in Russia
18:37 | 18/ 04/ 2006
MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) - Italian luxury carmaker Automobili Lamborghini will open its first Russian outlet in a Moscow suburb, the company's local dealer said Tuesday.
Lamborghini will sell made-to-order sedans starting at $258,000 in the Barvikha suburb, where many members of Russia's political and business elite have their country retreats.
The Barvikha outlet will cover the entire Lamborghini model range, including the Gallardo, the Gallardo Spyder, the Murcielago Roadster, and the Murcielago LP 640.
Lamborghini sold six cars to Russian customers in 2005, and expects its local sales to reach 20-25 units this year.
Another Italian manufacturer of elite automobiles, Ferrari, also hopes its sales in Russia will increase to 30 cars in 2006, from 25 last year.
Britain's Bentley, which sold 200 vehicles on the Russian market in 2005, is set to boost its sales to 300.

Stephan Grhsem - Peter Vann "Lamborghini. A tempo furioso"
_______________________________________________
"Lamborghini. A tempo furioso" is the lastest book dedicated to the House of the Raging Bull and done with Lamborghini's complete authorisation, now on sale in English, German and Italian. It is a collaboration between Stephan Grhsem, Head of Communications at AUDI AG, and Peter Vann, one of the most famous contemporary photographers in the automotive world: With an original title, the same in all three languages, which highlights the identifiable characteristics of the brand: extreme, uncompromising and Italian.
More than 170 pages, printed on elegant glazed paper, the book tells the history of the brand, from its beginnings with Ferruccio Lamborghini, up to the present day with the new models in the range, and a sneak look at the future.
It includes an abundance of information and plenty of photographs of the models which have helped to create the history of Lamborghini (from the Countach, to the Miura and the 350 GT, from the Espada to the LM), the prototypes never built but worth remembering (as for example Marzal, Bravo, Athon, Cal and Raptor) and the new models in the range : Murcilago, Gallardo, Murcilago Roadster and Gallardo Spyder. Naturally, it wouldn't be complete without the Concept S and the latest prototype Miura Concept 2006. For fans of the models in miniature there is a chapter dedicated to these 1 :43 scale " jewels " all rigorously hand built by Egidio Reali.
The authors devoted more than two years of research for this book. They were allowed unrestricted access to all the company's departments, held detailed discussions with past engineers - such as Mr. Giotto Bizzarrini, interviewed in Livorno - to the designers (shot inside the new Centro Stile), to the President, Stephan Winkelmann, photographed in the most characteristic locations in Bologna.
Grhsem and Vann enjoyed the incomparable pleasure of driving each new model; they even took a Murcilago to Andalusia to see for themselves where the celebrated Miura fighting bulls are bred. The results of their labours: fascinating photos and emotive writing that bring Lamborghini to life in all its facets.
Who is Stephan Grhsem
Stephan Grhsem (1962) is Head of Communications at AUDI AG. A writer who studied journalism, worked for major German daily newspapers and business magazines, and discovered the lure of the automobile at an early age. Grhsem has been intensively involved in the new era that began for Lamborghini after it was taken over by Audi AG. This book reflects his intimate knowledge of the associated events and his enthusiasm for these Italian supersports models.
Who is Peter Vann
Peter Vann (1941) is acknowledged to be one of the great contemporary car photographers. A pictorial idiom that is all his own, gives his work its timeless beauty. Vann, who lives in Paris and St. Moritz, has portrayed all the major automobile brands, and in doing so has never failed to set new standards of style. His pictures have long since been regarded as a brand of their own. Photographing the icons that are Lamborghini automobiles was both a challenge and a labour of love for Peter Vann.

It's Not Perfect, But It's A Lamborghini

It's the last thing you'd expect from a Lamborghini: a false start. I was all set to drive away in a creamy white Gallardo Spyder parked outside of the Beverly Hills showroom when the dealer mentioned that the speedometer wasn't working. That's a cop magnet if I've ever heard of one, especially for a car that can reach 195 miles per hour. After a brief negotiation, he outfitted me with a mint-green loaner instead. Verde Picus it's called, a pastel color that's new for 2007 and supposed to make this macho machine more appealing to women.
At that point, it was smooth sailing. Well, almost. I'd intended to pilot this $225,000 beast up the California coast for a weekend getaway. A quick inventory scotched that notion: The firm seats, while plenty supportive, discourage long road trips. The thrilling growl of the 520-hp V-10 engine, coupled with wind and tire and road noise that's downright oppressive, inhibits casual conversation, even with the ragtop up. As for space, you can take a passenger or you can take luggage, but not both. And, oh yes, the seat heaters, a $3,340 option, were permanently stuck in the "on" position.
Enough with the nits. I love this car for what it is. The Gallardo is the most drivable car Lamborghini has ever made. You don't need to be a gymnast to ease yourself into the cabin. The footwell, squeezed between the front wheels, feels roomy. The navigation, audio, and climate controls are visible and sensible -- and match those of an Audi A8 (Volkswagen's luxury car division has owned Lamborghini since 1998). If you don't want to accede to the constant demands of a conventional shifter, there's a tamer $10,000, six-speed automatic with paddles behind the steering wheel for manual shifts when you want them.
I took the Gallardo into the hills around Los Angeles just to see how it handles on twisty roads (it loves corners). I was sorry that I didn't get to let it loose on a track. But mostly, in California at least, this car serves as a boulevard beauty, meant to impress and to intimidate. Something about the intensely angular styling shouts "don't even try" to drivers of souped-up Mustangs and pathetic little Porsches who pull up next to you at stop lights. They try, of course. These challengers want to provoke the primitive animal growl that happens when the exhaust blows open. I was only too happy to comply.

WagerWeb spokesperson Cindy Margolis arrives in style to Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift premiere in 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Roadster.
(PRWEB) June 18, 2006 -- Plenty of beautiful women in fast cars with revving engines makes Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift a must see movie. But none were hotter or sexier than WagerWeb spokesperson Cindy Margolis as he arrived at the premiere of the Neal Moritz movie in her Lamborghini.
Margolis, a car enthusiast herself can often be seen "drifting' in her Lamborghini against the backdrop of the Hollywood Hills and recently added another gem to her collection..a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur sedan. "I love the speed and power, combined with the beauty of a fast car", says the internet pioneer.
Margolis also took the opportunity to announce that her 2007 Calendar will be shot in Costa Rica in conjunction with her new on line partner, top rated sports book Wagerweb. Margolis still ranks as one of the biggest selling calendar and poster celebs ever. "I welcome the opportunity to shoot my 2007 calendar in beautiful Costa Rica and I love working with Wagerweb" "They are true innovators in the world of on line gaming".
Some thirty years ago the pop culture movie classic American Graffiti introduced the film goers to the world of fast, hot cars. Now, Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift has taken up the slack and brought it full circle. And, if you look closely at the center of that circle you'll
see the pop culture icon who has brought it all to a new level..Cindy Margolis.

Visitors to Goodwood Festival of Speed will enjoy a unique opportunity to witness the new Murcilago LP640 making its UK debut by going up the hill, whilst in the Cartier Style et Luxe paddock, original Miura models will be accompanied by the Miura Concept car.
The Murcilago LP640 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The LP640 at Goodwood is the first of the new Murcilago models to arrive in the UK, and will be driven by one of the factorys test drivers, Valentino Balboni.
The Miura Concept car was the first Lamborghini vehicle to be conjured from the pen of Walter de Silva, Head of Lamborghini Design. De Silvas other responsibilities include serving as Head of Design of Audi Group. The Miura Concept is a retro-inspired concept car heralding back to one of the automotive worlds most famous icons, the legendary Lamborghini Miura. Designed in celebration of the Miuras fortieth anniversary and with no plans for production, the Miura Concept will be displayed alongside original Miura models.
Official Lamborghini merchandise will also be retailed at Goodwood Festival of Speed, in unit 151 in the merchandise and retailing area by the start line.
Lamborghini opened two further dealerships in the UK in May in Edinburgh and Birmingham, joining the existing outlets in London and Manchester.

"It has been confirmed that a licensed California classic car dealer has sold
Miura SV chassis number 4992 to a private collector for a world-record
$610,000. As of July the 12th 2006, the car had already been bought and paid for by its new California-based owner.
Production number 685, "4992" was completed at Sant Agata on December
the 4th 1971 as one of just 21 Type-USA Miura SVs, a limited series of Miura
SVs produced to a unique specificaton especially for the USA market.
4992 featured a split-sump engine number 30692, and the factory-fitted air-condition option. The price paid by the car's collector owner was as a result of multiple interest in the car, this SVs ultra low documented mileage of 18,934 miles, its beautifully original condition and also because 4992 has the unique distinction of having had just one owner from new.
This SV became available only when its first owner passed away recently and the Estate decided to sell. It is worth noting that in fact the purchase price is not only the highest paid for a Miura of any kind, but the highest paid for any type of Lamborghini.
In recent years, Miura SV values have continued to climb as enthusiasts
savor this final Lamborghini model built by the Sant Agata works whilst
still owned by Ferruccio Lamborghini, and in the USA, the SV has been
elevated to cult-car status amongst those who love it. Miura SVs were built
between March 1971 and October 1973, and of around 140 original cars built,
perhaps just 100 remain in roadworthy condition taday making it a rare gem
indeed. The limited-production USA version is treasured by enthusiasts and
insiders who realise that this rare version of the SV was built to a higher
standard than the cars completed for the rest of the world."
