As reported a few days ago Lamborghini will not build an Espada-style 2+2 front-engined coupe, but the company boss Stephan Winkelmann said that Lamborghini is considering a luxury 4x4.

"An SUV would fit the brand. We’ve done one in the past [the LM002], but it’s not one of our priorities", said Winkelmann.

There were rumors that Lamborghini would be adding a large Ferrari 612 Scaglietti-rivalling GT to its portfolio, but Winkelmann indicated that any future Lamborghini sports car needs to be both mid-engined and four-wheel drive.

"The supplier that provides Carbon Fiber Body Skin Frame pieces for the Lamborghini LP 640, Porsche GT and the Ferrari 599 has stoped production and filed BANKRUPTCY last week.

This will cause the production of the above listed cars to be reduced.

Lamborghini uses the company for approx 70% of its product requirment. There is no issue with its remaining suppliers.

As a result it is estimated this will cause the production to drop to a total of ONLY 104 LP 640 coupes for the USA MY 2007.

I did not get an answer when asked, what reduction or delay this will cause for the newly released LP 640 Roadster at this time."

From Autoblog:
Lamborghini's plans for the future

Some would call it cheapening the brand, others would call it advertising, others still would note that it's a revenue stream. What are we talking about? We're talking about the coming preponderance of Lamborghini-branded trinkums. Okay, we're not really sure how much exactly there will be, but Lamborghini is slowing down its vehicular business a little for 2007 and picking up its activity in the knick-knack sector. The reasoning for the growth shrinkage is to improve the efficiency of the organization, as well as popularize the brand through the aforementioned things other than cars. Hey, there are Ferarri branded laptops, and F.A. Porsche has designed all sorts of stuff, so why not? We'd love to see what Lamborghini could do to the simple commode, forinstance. In all seriousness, the brand is coming off a sales growth spurt of over 25 percent between '05 and '06. They're playing Ben Bernanke so that they can maximize profits and take a breath as they prepare for future growth.

Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann played it close to the vest when talking to Winding Road about upcoming developments from Sant A'gata. There will be new Lambos coming soon, though. Keep an eye out for a V10 powered, Porsche Cayenne based SUV sometime in 2009. Following on the heels of what will be one of the world's most expensive and high performance SUVs will be a 2+2 inspired by the Espada. The Espada was a four-place GT that looked like the result of a tryst between a 400GT and a Plymouth Belvedere. We think a real car that you could use would be a great addition to the stable of Trattori. The Gallardo and Murcielago are all well and good, but you're not going to get dressed up in your finery and try to wriggle in and out of those things in front of your favorite restaurant's plate glass window. An SUV and GT make perfect sense -- they'll broaden the appeal of the Lamborghini brand and offer exclusive-car buyers something a little more mainstream while still offering outstanding performance. Perhaps they won't be quite as capable as the big-dogs, but they'll certainly help pull the financial sled.

--so the GT will actually go into production then? cool 8) still against the SUV though...

Another record year for Automobili Lamborghini.
2087 supercars built and sold in 2006
Sales up over 30%
The Detroit Motor Show is the right venue to announce Automobili Lamborghini's official figures for 2006 : another annual sales record.

In the last twelve months the House of Sant'Agata Bolognese has built and sold 2087 cars, which represents a growth of 30.4% compared to the year before (1600 cars). This is the highest total ever achieved in Lamborghini's history.

A total of 876 units were sold in the United States, which remains the main market for Automobili Lamborghini. Sales grew by 37% compared to the year before (640 cars).

In Europe, sales rose to 746 units, a growth of 50%. Particularly strong sales were recorded in Germany with 234 units, an increase of 41% and Great Britain with a tremendous improvement of 81% and 151 cars delivered.

In the home market of Italy, 134 units were sold, a growth of 38%, which was another strong performance.

"2006 was an exceptional year. This success was due to the Lamborghini dealer network and our products", said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

The worldwide dealer network has been strengthened, passing from 65 dealers in 2005 to 100 dealers by end of 2006.

The Lamborghini product line was expanded with more new models introduced in 2006 than in any other year of the company's history.

The Gallardo Spyder was launched on the markets in early 2006, while the extreme Murciélago LP640 Coupé was introduced in summer 2006. The new Murciélago LP640 Roadster was presented in November 2006 and will be launched in early spring 2007.

Automobili Lamborghini starts the year with production record of five thousandth Gallardo

Automobili Lamborghini has already achieved a new production record in the first month of 2007: Lamborghini Gallardo number 5000 has rolled off the production line at the house of Sant’ Agata Bolognese. This remarkable achievement builds on the previous production record realised at the end of December 2006, with the delivery of 2087 vehicles during one year.

« This is another important milestone for Lamborghini, » said President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. To have produced 5000 Gallardo is testament to the quality of, and customer demand for, our V10 product. ....

« The Lamborghini brand is increasingly sought after in markets worldwide through our substantially grown dealer network, through which supply versus demand is carefully managed, » concluded Winkelmann.

The five thousandth black Gallardo coupé, due for delivery to a customer in the UK, was celebrated by assembly line workers along with the president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann; Klaus-Peter Koerner, Production Director; and Ingo Budde, Quality Director.

The Gallardo continues to affirm its success. Introduced to the market in 2003, it marked its first record in November 2005 with production of 3000 units, already representing the most sold model in Lamborghini’s history.

The ten cylinder Gallardo coupe produces 520 hp (382 kW), with a top speed of 315 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds.

From Autoblog:

The battle between the Prancing Horse and the Raging Bull is the most epic in the automotive industry, with Maranello and Sant'Agata always searching for ways to one-up eachother. (Which one is Borat and which one is his neighbor with the iPod mini depends on your perspective.) So with Ferrari preparing to release the F430 Challenge Stradale, Lamborghini wasn't going to be left holding its fedora. That's why reports are surfacing that Lamborghini is working on a new, lightweight version of the Gallardo.

Reviving the classic Superleggera name from Italian automotive history, the Gallardo Superleggera will shed "frills" from the cabin (for example sound insulation, thick glass, carpeting, power features, stereo, air conditioning and leather) and replace body panels with carbon fiber, a targeted weight savings of 220 lbs, bringing the total curb weight to less than 3000 lbs. However, unlike pre-Audi lightweight special Lambos, the Gallardo is expected to retain its all-wheel-drive.

Reports also suggest a slight increase in power (likely from a revised exhaust), adding an extra 10 hp that should help the leaner Lambo drop a good half-second off its 0-60 sprint.

From Car Scoop:
530Hp, 1.330kg and 0-100km/h in 3,8 sec: that’s the Gallardo “Superleggera” is in a nutshell. Unlike our previous post on the Opel Agila, the “Superleggera” is a done deal; this souped-up lightweight Gallardo will make its appearance at the Geneva Show. We had been tipped about this one but we didn’t have any photos to go with it until now that is, thanks to a “paparazzi” at Supercar Forums who posted a scanned image of the car from Quattroruote magazine.

The “Superleggera” boasts minor engine upgrades, adding another 10hp to the 5.0 V10 thus, raising output to 530Hp. Even though the ‘Superleggera” (unfortunately) maintains the 4WD system, thanks to the extensive use of carbonfibre and the stripped-down-to-basics interior the Gallardo lost 100kg (220,5 pounds) reducing overall weight to 1.330kg (2.932 pounds).

Expect changes in the brake and suspension departments as well as the obvious aesthetic upgrades that include sexy dark grey rims and a rear diffuser. Apart from promising to offer improved handling over the basic Gallardo the “Superleggera” also boasts a better time for the 0 to 100 km/h sprint as it manages to do the ton in 3,8 sec (normal version 4,2 sec).

-This should make for very interesting competition for the 911 GT3 RS and the upcoming F430 CS  I can't wait for the Geneva Motor Show -- so many exciting cars to make their debut (even in concept form):!: :D

Automobili Lamborghini Targets to Become Most Profitable Supersportscar Manufacturer

- Deliveries increase by 30,4 % and surpass 2087 unit threshold for the first time
- FINANCIAL YEAR 2006: Revenue up 43 % to 346Mio.€
- Result before tax increases by 311% to 18,1 Mio.€
- Continued growth in volumes and sales forecasted for 2007
- 2007 production already sold out

In financial year 2006 (ending Dec 31), the Italian Supersportscar Manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. achieved the third record year in a row after having reached profitability in 2004. All key business figures are up clearly and reach new all-time highs. Deliveries to customers grew by over 30% and reached 2087 cars, thus surpassing the 2000-unit limit for the first time in the history of the company. Total revenues increased by 43% from 243,0 Mio.€ to 346,3 Mio.€. Having turned profitable in 2004 already, 2006 marks highly over proportional profit growth. Result before tax increased by 311% and reached 18,1 Mio.€. All major figures are clearly above plan and above the growth of the market segment. ....

Major factors driving growth and profitability in the reporting period are threefold: The youngest and most attractive model line-up ever with two new models in 2006 alone, continued focussed expansion of the dealer network, especially in the Asian markets as well as increased brand awareness with customers and the public.

“With our corporate turn-around to sustained profitability and growth into world-wide presence, Automobili Lamborghini is steadily increasing its overall brand value to all stakeholders. We are achieving this not only by once more surpassing all our important budget figures. Moreover, to customers, partners, shareholders and our dedicated staff and also to the interested public, we fulfilled the brand promises of exclusivity, leading-edge design and sympathetic luxury. However, the only thing that can stop us, is our own self-complacency, and the whole company is decided not to let this happen.” stated Stephan Winkelmann, CEO & President of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A..

The strongest growth showed the European market, with volumes sales increasing by 50% to 746 units. Most important national markets were Germany (up by 41% to 234 units) and the UK (up by 81% to 151 cars delivered). The home market Italy established itself as another European growth market and increased by 38% to 134 units sold. The largest market – with 876 units sold - continued to be the US with a growth rate of plus 34.1%.
The overall growth was driven by strategic expansion of the dealer network on the one hand. By the end of 2006 there were 100 Lamborghini dealerships world-wide. The year marks the new presence in new growth markets by opening up flagship stores in Russia (Moscow) and India (New Delhi). Other partnerships opened up in Houston, Boston, Detroit and Prag.

On the other hand, the year also marks a further expansion of the product portfolio. Based on the two major base models, Lamborghini Gallardo and Lamborghini Murciélago, there were two new models introduced into the world-wide markets. In the beginning of 2006, the Gallardo Spyder was launched, while the new Murciélago Coupe LP 640 was introduced in summer. The open version, the Murciélago LP 640 Roadster, was presented in November and will come to the markets in these present weeks. Additional growth was contributed by merchandising revenues, that increased from by 85%. For financial year 2007, the company plans to continue to generate solid and sustainable growth in sales and profits as well as in the product line-up. The production is already sold out for all of 2007. The sales network will be in full delivery mode and ten more partnerships will be opened up, among them Kiew (Ukraine) and Mumbay (India). As for the longer term outlook, Automobili Lamborghini plans to show sustained growth increase above its market segment figures. Thus, Automobili Lamborghini plans to become the most profitable brand in the Supersportscar segment in the world.

CEO says new rules won’t wreck Lamborghini
By MATT MOORE
The Associated Press
GENEVA — Any automaker would love to be in the position that Italy’s Lamborghini holds.

Customer loyalty is intense with repeat buyers more than willing to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars for a new model even before they take shape on the assembly line in Bologna, Italy. Lamborghini is in the enviable position of being able to announce a new version and have it sell out before one bolt is tightened.

But the cars — famous for precision and design — are infamous on fuel efficiency, a potential drawback in Europe, where curbs on emissions are taking hold. At the 77th annual Geneva Motor Show, the color in style is more earthly green than race-car red, as carmakers try to lure eco-inspired consumers to showrooms with cleaner diesel engines, hybrids and the promise of fuel cells and batteries.

That is not to say Stephan Winkelmann, chief executive of Automobili Lamborghini Holding SpA, is worried the venerable carmaker could find itself singled out by campaigners who want to make an example out of it.

“We are sticking to emissions rules in every country we are selling to,” he told The Associated Press in an interview on the sidelines of the Geneva Motor Show. “As part of the (Volkswagen) group, but even as Lamborghini, we have to meet the standards, and we are doing the best that we can do.”

Concern over emissions has taken a firm hold in the European Union, with the 27-member bloc setting a goal of 4.6 ounces of C02 per half-mile per vehicle by 2012, down from around 5.75 ounces per half-mile, on average now.

Winkelmann conceded Lamborghini’s models, which include the Murcielago LP640 Roadster and the new Gallardo Superleggera, would not fall in line with those regulations.

“We’re a niche within a niche,” Winkelmann said, given the fact that Lamborghini only produces around 2,000 cars annually.

So far, it’s a profitable niche market, and sales have been steadily increasing since 2004.

From Autoblog:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/16/lamborghini-something-new-at-every-show/
A few years back, as some may remember, Ferrari pledged to have a new product every year. It seemed like a tall order at the time for a company with a three or four-model line-up. But a new model here, a convertible version there, and the Prancing Horse has been more or less keeping on that track, often even giving us two new additions to the stable in a given year.

Lamborghini, meanwhile, has a two-model range, and they've made a commitment of their own: "something special" at every major car show, every year. What entails "something special"? Lamborghini churns out a wide variety of new versions and special editions of its Murcielago and Gallardo models; recent examples have included the Murcielago LP640, the LP640 roadster, the Versace edition, the Gallardo Nera, and just last week in Geneva, the Gallardo Superleggera. To keep up with its ambitious commitment, and the company's hunger to earn coverage at each show, we can expect most of these special somethings to be revealed as further special editions of the cars they currently offer, but once in a while they'll surely offer us something truly special, like they did with the Miura concept.

The next special something might be a Gallardo Superleggera Spyder, but the next really special something could be the long-awaited successor to the LM002 SUV. Don't fret, a new Lambo is just a car show away.

-- A Superleggera Spyder is interesting but somehow I doubt it since no one has made a track-ready street car convertible (yet). I'm still not excited about any Lambo SUV!

Lamborghini's future, encapsulated: Versions galore, except a 'Ute
While sharing the stage with the Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini's CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, has outlined the future of Italy's raging bull, and for those burdened with disposable income, the future doesn't look half bad.

Lamborghini projects an increase in sales of around 2,300 vehicles in 2007, 350 of which will be the recently unveiled Superleggera. Since the development costs of Lambo's lineup make it difficult to produce new models quickly, we'll be seeing other vehicles adopting the Superleggera's ethos. Specifically, lightweight versions of both the Gallardo Spyder and Murcielago are rumored to bow at this year's Frankfurt and Tokyo auto shows, although the CEO was hesitant to address specifics.

As for new models, we won't be seeing hybrids, turbos or diesels finding their way under the hood, but Lamborghini intends to equip all its new models with four-wheel-drive. According to Winkelmann, that particular feature has become part of the brand's cache, and in addition to providing higher levels of performance, it will further solidify Lambo's identity.

As for a successor to the LM002: don't expect to see it anytime soon. Winkelmann has said that they certainly would like to add an SUV to the lineup, but "the company has other priorities."

-- YES!! It's good that they're not prioritizing an SUV. Instead of making lightweight versions of all their models, can't they just make the standard cars lighter?

Automobili Lamborghini at the Techno Classica 2007

Automobili Lamborghini celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Lamborghini Countach in Essen

The first and last version of the super sports car serve to document 27 years of serial production
This year, Automobili Lamborghini dedicates its presence at the Techno Classica (29 March – 1 April 2006) fully to the 35th anniversary of the Lamborghini Countach. During this fair, the largest in the world to focus on the theme of classic automobiles, the long-standing manufacturer of super sports cars presents two of its models: a Countach LP400 as well as the Lamborghini Countach 25°. Both vehicles are part of the Lamborghini Collection which can be seen at the factory museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese. At the fair, the cars are on display in hall 7, stand 509.

The Lamborghini Countach LP400

When Lamborghini and the Turin-based design firm Bertone presented the latest results of their collaboration at the Geneva Motor Show in 1971, the visitors gasped in amazement. They did not just witness the first study for a new Lamborghini; the extremely wedge-shaped design they laid eyes on was in fact the most radical and futuristic concept of a sports car that had ever been developed. The silhouette and the wing-doors that opened upwards brought to mind a fighter plane rather than an automobile. Responsible for the revolutionary design was Bertone staff member Marcello Gandini, who also created the Miura. The name of the new car: Lamborghini Countach LP 500.

The abbreviation LP stood for “longitudinale posteriore”,

, and referred to the way the twelve-cylinder engine was installed: from rear to front. The number served to indicate the cylinder capacity of the V12 with a 60 degree cylinder angle: five liters. The name itself was an expression often used in the dialect of the Piemonte region and means something like magnificent, wonderful, incredible, which is what Bertone allegedly exclaimed when he first saw Gandini’s finished designs. Ferruccio Lamborghini, who was also present at the occasion, subsequently deemed that the right name for the car. The performance facts which were presented were indeed incredible: 440 hp and a maximum speed of 300 km/h. No sports car at the time could beat those numbers.

The study was so well received that the people in Sant’Agata decided to manufacture the Countach in series. During the test phase in the months following the Motor Show, it emerged that Gandini had been slightly overoptimistic with regard tot the thermal conditions of the engine. Also, the stability of the top level engine fell somewhat short of the expectations. Therefore, in 1972 the engineers resorted to the tried and tested 12-cylinder with 4 liter cylinder capacity. The name was changed correspondingly to LP 400. The cooling air mechanism was improved through cooling vents in the sides and through large scoops. They made the Countach look even more martial and provided the car with its clear-cut contours, which paved the way for its status of icon in the world of sports cars.

The finished version of the serially produced car wasn’t shown to the public until 1973 in Geneva. Contrary to the study presented in 1972, the frame consisted of round rather than square tubes. Instead of steel plate, aluminum was used for the body, which lowered the dry weight from 1130 kg to 1060 kg. The engine, which was spurred by six Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, generated 375 hp and took the Countach to a maximum speed of over 300 km/h. As a result, the Lamborghini Countach LP 400 was the fastest serially produced automobile of its time.

The Lamborghini Countach 25°

Just how trail-blazing and modern Marcello Gandini’s designs by were, is illustrated by fact that the Countach continued to be built all the way until 1988. It was the year in which Lamborghini celebrated the 25th anniversary of its factory – an excellent opportunity to restyle the successful super sports car. The base consisted of the Countach LP 5000 4V, which has a 5,2 liter V12 engine with 455 hp performance. The wings were broadened substantially, in order to provide space for broader tires. The wheel housing at the front sheltered 225/50 ZR 15 tires instead of the 205/14 tires used in the original version. At the back, the increase in size was even more impressive: here, 345/35 ZR 15 tires were deployed, instead of the 215/14 tires found on the Countach LP 400. A special feature of the Countach 25° were the streaks on the side skirts and the scoops. It would turn out to be the last version of the Countach to be introduced by Lamborghini. In 1990, production came to an end after 657 units. Overall, 1997 Countachs left the factory in Sant’Agata during 27 years of manufacturing.

"The weight reduction comes from swapping out a number of components with carbon fiber bits, like the door panels, engine cover, wing, mirrors and the central tunnel covering. Lamborghini is expecting to loose about 100-150 kg with this operation giving the Superleggera a weight of 1500-1550 kg instead of the 1665 kg of the LP640.

Whether the gigantic wing in the back will be an option like on the Gallardo, or whether it will be standard is uncertain. But with power likely to be reaching 700 bhp and with the lighter body it can be expected that the Superleggera will reach a top speed of 350 km/h in which case it could use as much help as possible to keep it on the track."

"Background.
Lamborghini is an Italian corporation formed in 1963 to produce high-performance sports cars. This application concerns the Lamborghini Murcielago which was developed in the mid 1990s and is now scheduled to continue in production until 2009. Originally, Lamborghini planned to begin selling the Murcielago in 1999 and to end production before September 2006. Because of financial hardship and a change in corporate ownership, the petitioner did not begin sales of Murcielago until the very end of 2001, and is now forced to extend the product cycle of this vehicle.

Lamborghini has experienced financial problems for several years. Over the last 4 years (2001–2004), the company lost more than 180 million dollars. Lamborghini claims this economic hardship precluded the timely development of a new vehicle that could comply with advanced air bag requirements. With respect to the Murcielago, Lamborghini also has been unable to overcome a number of engineering problems associated with installing advanced air bags in the current vehicle configuration. If the exemption is not granted, the Murcielago model cannot be sold in the U.S. during the period 2006–2009, which petitioner stated could further delay the introduction of a fully compliant vehicle. Lamborghini thus asks for a temporary exemption from the advanced air bag requirements for the Murcielago until it is replaced by a brand new vehicle in 2009."

Former RUN-DMC star-turned-minister REV RUN has treated himself to a brand new Lamborghini for his 42nd birthday. The one-time rapper, real name Joseph Simmons, splashed out on the sports car and then had to explain to his kids that the purchase wasn't part of a mid-life crisis. He says, "A mid-life crisis in my mind is me trying to battle (top rap star) Young Jeezy on the mike. Not me buying a beautiful car that I can afford."

Fire has caused around $200,000 damage to a Lamborghini in a Melbourne car park.

Firefighters were called to the car park in Spring Street about 1:15pm AEST, finding the car alight.

No other vehicles have been damaged but work is continuing to clear smoke from the car park.

The blaze is not suspicious.

Property seized from five convicted drug dealers could mean millions for Upstate law enforcement.

As part of their sentencing, a federal judge ordered the drug dealers to give up $36 million in goods.

One of the men, Tremayne Graham, was arrested in 2004. He was part of a drug ring that flooded Greenville with cocaine.

Federal prosecutors said that they have claimed some of the property seized from Graham and the other four men including a 2003 Lamborghini, a tour bus and an assortment of jewelry.

The property will be sold at an auction. All proceeds will go to local and federal law enforcement agencies, but prosecutors do not expect to collect all $36 million.

A LAMBORGHINI caught fire in a central Melbourne carpark, sparking the evacuation of a city apartment building.

The blaze destroyed the motor of the luxury car and caused between $100,000-$200,000 damage, firefighters say.
Fire crews were called to the underground carpark of 99 Spring Street about 1pm yesterday.

Sprinklers had already doused the blaze.

Residents of the building above, including the car's owner, were evacuated.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade senior station officer Tony Cowling said the owner had jump-started the car earlier in the day and the blaze was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

He said the car was worth about half a million dollars but damage was limited.

"It could have been a lot worse, but the sprinkler did a good job," Mr Cowling said.

"People were evacuated but the fire was confined to the motor area of the very expensive car."

A police spokeswoman said officers would not be investigating.

Today, another chapter in Lamborghini’s history was written, with a ceremony to announce a stamp dedicated to the Lamborghini Miura, featuring a reproduction of the distinctive Sant’ Agata Bolognese mark: the raging bull on a black background.

The announcement ceremony was hosted by Lamborghini’s President and Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann, in the presence of the Director of the Poste Italiane and other local dignitaries and the public. The attendees also enjoyed an opportunity to visit the factory and the museum and received a special edition ‘first day cover’.

The public can also obtain the first day cover, which comes with a booklet introducing the stamp and the legendary Lamborghini story, signed by Stephan Winkelmann.

The stamp is available to the general public from today, and is a formal recognition of Automobili Lamborghini by the Poste Italiane. The Lamborghini stamp belongs to the ‘Made In Italy’ series with an anticipated production of around 3,500,000 stamps.

In a recent interview with Stephan Winkelmann some interesting news became obvious. Naturally he wouldn't talk about any new models that are being worked on at Sant'Agata, but what he did state was that there will be no Gallardo Spyder Superleggera. According the Mr Winkelmann the Superleggera philosophy isn't right for the open version of the Gallardo.

Note that a production of 350 units for the Gallardo Superleggera were projected for 2007, and over 400 have already been sold, the factory even increased it's production to keep up with the ever growing demand. At this moment the orders at Automobili Lamborghini SpA have reached a level that was never seen before, a new Bull will take about 18 months to be delivered to it's new owner, and these owners are currently ordering some very different colors from, let's say ten years ago.

Right now black is the most popular color on a new Lamborghini, together with the multitude of grey shades that are also available, yellow is a close second, but the third choice of color is a surprise : white and Balloon White. That's right, this shade is currently holding the third position in the popularity of colors, I guess we're back in the days of the Countach 5-Liter, when a white over white leather Countach was very popular.

Stephan Winkelmann again stated that Automobili Lamborghini SpA will show a new model or evolution of an existing model, every year, this is his promise to the loyal customer base that was formed over the years.

Things are looking better and better for Automobili Lamborghini SpA, so let's hope we'll be seeing some unexpected models on their show stand soon ...

Lamborghini this morning announced record sales figures for the first six months of this year, with 1,343 of the 'Raging Bull' sports car models finding customers during this period while its revenues also rose significantly and were up by more than 50 percent to 222 million euros. The V12-engined super sports car model, the Murciélago, in particular performed well - it saw its sales almost doubling year-on-year.

The impressive figures were revealed when Lamborghini's automotive parent company Audi Group released its interim report for the first sixth months of 2007 which saw the German carmaker increasing its gross profit year on year by 40.2 percent to 2,436 (1,738) million euros and officially confirming its commitment to a Brussels-built A1 model in 2009.

Audi bought the four decade old Italian sports car maker, Lamborghini, at the end of the last century and after making significant investments sales have steadily climbed. It broke the 1,000 units per year sales barrier in 2002, and last year it hit another milestone when it reached sales of 2,087 cars, a company record. It turned its first pre-tax profit in 2005 (4.4 million euros) and last year announced a quadrupling of these earnings of 18.1 million euros. Global dealership numbers went up by more than 10 percent last year as it pushed to strengthen its presence in mature markets such as the US and UK and at the same time broke into emerging new markets including Russia, China, Brazil and India.

This morning Lamborghini has announced healthy sales of 1,343 of its Sant’Agata Bolognese-built sports car models during the first half of the year, up 48.9 percent up on the 902 units total it sold during the same period of 2006. "The increase in the number of the Lamborghini Murciélago and Gallardo models built was particularly impressive," said the Audi Group interim report.

The 5.0-litre V10-powered Gallardo model accounted for 1,052 sales during the first six months, significantly up from the 749 units that were sold during the same period last year. The 'mid-size' Gallardo was boosted by much greater than expected demand for the new lightweight Superleggera model and continuing interest in the Spyder version, the latter which accounted for the bulk of sales. The bigger Murciélago sports car saw its sales almost doubling to 291 units during the first six months of this year, from 153 during the first six months of 2006, thanks to demand for its ferocious 640bhp 6.5-litre V12-engined LP640 version which is now available on the market in both Coupé and Spyder format.

The Italian super sports car manufacturer increased its vehicle revenues by 53.1 percent to 222 million euros; from 145 million euros during the first half of 2006. Parent company Audi was pleased with the performance of its Italian concern saying: "the Lamborghini brand also made noteworthy progress." Staff levels at Lamborghini also continued to climb, from 722 (at 30.06.2006) to 941 at the end of last month.

Lamborghini Announces 2008 Model Year Enhancements
___________________________________

Automobili Lamborghini has announced its 2008 model year Gallardo and Murciélago LP640 models.

The Lamborghini Murciélago will now come with a three-year warranty, in line with the three-year warranty already offered in the UK on Lamborghini Gallardo models. The unlimited mileage warranty will now be standard across all markets, reflecting the high level of manufacturing qualities found in Lamborghini cars.

The Gallardo MY08 now offers the following additional standard equipment: onboard computer, heated mirrors, and USB connection under the front bonnet in place of the CD loader as a no-cost option.

The list of Gallardo optional equipment has also been enhanced. A new soft-top colour – beige – will become available for the Gallardo Spyder, plus i-Pod preparation/connection can be provided in the glove compartment.

Within the interiors options range, the special Q-citura upholstery stitching has now become an option across the Gallardo range, following the success of this stitching in the seat centres, door panels and dashboard of the Murciélago LP640 and the Gallardo Nera limited edition.

For the Murciélago LP640, the MY08 is anticipated with i-Pod preparation or a USB interface as new options, with CD loader still available as standard equipment but also available with a satellite navigation system.

Other options offered include the steering wheel in perforated leather across all models, and two new choices of dark blue and grey colours for the soft-top of the Murciélago LP640 Roadster.

Other options for the LP640 include an additional set of winter tyres, and enhancement of the carbon kit with the carbon weave on the lower part of the steering wheel and on the gear levers (e-gear version).

Volkswagen Group-owned Lamborghini reported a record pretax profit $36.1 million (26.4 million euros) in the first six months of 2007, outshining the entire 2006 record profit of $24.7 million (18.1 million euros). Lamborghini delivered 1,239 cars during the period, a 30% increase over last year, while total turnover rose by 61% to $346 million (253 million euros).

In a statement issued on July 27, Lamborghini said that "the company came one step closer to its target of being the most profitable super sports car manufacturer in the world" although it certainly faces fierce competition in terms of profitability, particularly, from Porsche. According to Autonews.com, Lamborghini cited "improved brand recognition, an expansion of its dealer network and a young and attractive model range ... including the Gallardo Spyder and the Murcielago LP640" as the key developments contributing to the record profit.
Today Forbes reported that Lamborghini will expand in eastern Europe and Asia as these new markets, according to Lamborghini CEO Stefan Winkelmann "have the potential to replace the US and western Europe as our biggest market." Winkelmann expects China to be "one of Lamborghini's five biggest markets three or four years from now."

Press Release
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A opens second generation dealership in Copenhagen
Friday 31 August, Lamborghini Copenhagen inaugurates its new Showroom
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is continuing the expansion and improvement of its brand and sales network, inaugurating a new showroom in Denmark on 31 August this year. Lamborghini Copenhagen, operated by MLA/AS, has been an official partner of Automobili Lamborghini since October 2003. The new showroom, fitted to Lamborghini’s exact and distinctive corporate standards, is based at Banevingen 9 in Copenhagen, close to the city centre and opposite the former dealership location.
“We are not only expanding our dealer network but at the same time reaffirming the extremely strong brand identity for Lamborghini, on and off-street, through the opening of new showrooms that correspond to our exacting corporate standards,” affirmed Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “Our showroom environment and the service received is as much part of the Lamborghini experience and pleasure of ownership as the car itself. This is an important aspect of communicating our marque to new audiences, and thus constantly increasing Lamborghini’s international brand recognition as well as its aspirational and market value,” so Stephan Winkelmann.
"We are proud to have the opportunity to further develop our representation of Lamborghini, as the sole dealer for Denmark, with this new showroom, and we looking forward to continuing the success of the brand” commented Michael Lassen, the CEO of Lamborghini Copenhagen. “
To further reinforce the success of Automobili Lamborghini, the world network of dealers is undergoing continuous expansion. Today Lamborghini Dealers number 105, compared to the 65 in 2004.
In 2006 Automobili Lamborghini sold 2,087 sports cars the world over, registering growth of more than 30% compared to the previous year. High demand continues in 2007 and beyond for both Gallardo and Murciélago models and especially the recently presented Gallardo Superleggera, providing another positive outlook for Automobili Lamborghini this year. In the first six months of 2007, Automobili Lamborghini has achieved another sales record, with 1239 supersports cars sold, which represents a growth of 30% compared to the same period of 2006 (952).

Italian sports car manufacturer confirms positive trend
Automobili Lamborghini Sets New Record
in the First Half of 2007
- 30% improvement in deliveries around the world
- 61% growth of turnover
- with a 283% leap, the profit reaches 26,4 Million
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. has once again beaten a record in the company’s history in the first six months of FY 2007, still in progress (31/12/2007). All of the major indicators – sales, turnover and net profit – have gone up considerably.
This automaker, rich in tradition, located in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, made approximately 30% more international deliveries in this period, equivalent to 1,239 (952) vehicles.
The company also set new records in turnover and net profit. Turnover rose exponentially, by almost 100 million (61.5%), settling at 253.1 (156.7) million.
In terms of profit, the company came even closer to its goal of becoming the most profitable sports car manufacturer. At 26,4 million, its net profit has already clearly passed its record-breaking figure of the entire financial year of 2006, which totalled 18.1 million. The profit increase is 19.5 million for the period. This is an increase of 283 per cent, growing to a total profit of 26.4 million in the first six months of 2007, compared to 6.9 million profit in the first half of 2006.
All of the chief indicators have surpassed both forecasts and market segment growth.
Four major growth and profitability factors arose during the period in question. In the first place, the latest and even more alluring generation of cars with the introduction of another model, the Gallardo Superleggera. Secondly, persistent concentration on expanding its network of dealerships, and the brand’s higher attractiveness amongst customers and in public opinion. Lastly, the professional capability of the Lamborghini’s employees who are motivated by a strong sense of belonging and passion.
President and CEO of the automobile manufacturing company, Stephan Winkelmann, offered a few comments. “Our global growth strategy is starting to bear fruit. Nevertheless, we must not forget that in spite of our increasing and unreserved concentration on profitability, growth and the international presence of our brand, the challenges we will have to face are growing at the same pace. We are well positioned, and following the excellent first half of the year that just ended, we know we are following the right path in order to post another record-breaking year in the company’s history”.
To further reinforce the success of Automobili Lamborghini, the world network of dealers will undergo continuous expansion. Today Lamborghini dealers number 105, compared to 65 there were in 2004.
And the strong demand in 2007 for the Lamborghini Gallardo and Murciélago models - and particularly for the new Gallardo Superleggera that was recently introduced – is one basic element leading to the half-year’s record-breaking result. Sales already cover the entire production up until the first half of 2008.

Lamborghini Selects Beru for TPMS

Prestigious car manufacturer chooses F1 technology for Gallardo and Murciélago

Automotive engineering specialists Beru F1 Systems has announced that it is supplying its award-winning digital tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) DigiTyre to Lamborghini for the Gallardo and Murciélago platforms. The safety feature, developed using Beru F1 Systems’ extensive motorsport experience, is standard fit on US Gallardo and Murciélago models to comply with the TREAD act. (The TREAD act makes it mandatory for passenger vehicles and light trucks sold in the USA to be fitted with a pressure monitoring system).

Specialist and niche vehicle manufacturers rightly demand robust and integrated solutions,” says BERU F1 Systems’ managing director John Bailey. “The higher speeds, higher cornering forces and demands experienced by performance cars rule out many solutions currently available. Our system is robust, light yet still retains all the integration features such as end of line testing and dealer diagnostics that OEMs require.”

End of road for Lamborghini case
An email over a Lamborghini sports car has sparked a lengthy courtroom battle between $2 Shop mogul Brian Salmon and a former franchise holder, likened by one top judge to "using a shotgun on a mouse".

The case reached the Court of Appeal in Wellington yesterday.

It considered an appeal against an earlier High Court decision that turened down a claim of defamation levelled at Lynette McKinnon over the email sent in 2005.

In it, Ms McKinnon, who was based in Hastings, questioned the ongoing use of a Lamborghini, which she said had done nothing to boost sales.

Mr Salmon, who opened the first $2 Shop in New Plymouth in 1994, had bought the Lamborghini in 2003 through his company $2 Shop Ltd, sending a letter to franchise holders saying it would be available for "some promotional purposes".

In her email, Ms McKinnon made other comments, which Mr Salmon said were incorrect and defamatory.

In response, Ms McKinnon had issued an apology to Mr Salmon.

However, that did not placate him, and in June last year the case went to the High Court.

Judge Christopher Allan ruled that the e-mail did not defame Mr Salmon.

"The fact that some franchisees might have regarded the purchase and subsequent deployment of the Lamborghini for marketing purposes as of limited commercial effectiveness does not render the e-mail defamatory."

Mr Salmon appealed against the decision to the Court of Appeal.

His lawyer, Julian Miles, said yesterday that Mr Salmon was a man of principle, and felt that comments in the e-mail had cast doubt on his honesty and integrity.

He did not seek damages, only a declaration and costs.

The $2 Shop concept has more than 40 stores throughout New Zealand and produces $32 million a year in group sales.

At yesterday's hearing, Justice Bruce Robertson said that, though Ms McKinnon may have been "incautious and imprudent" in sending the email, "it was all cleared up in a great hurry".

He described letters sent to Ms McKinnon as "over the top" in tone.

"It was really a big boy taking on a little one in a way I haven't seen in a long time."

Justice William Young likened the case to "using a shotgun on a mouse".

Outside court, Ms McKinnon, who now lives in Australia, said she was glad the case was over. "It was 2½ years over one email."

The Court of Appeal has reserved its decision.

More about F1 system:
"Automotive engineering specialists BERU F1 Systems has announced that it is supplying its award-winning digital tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) DigiTyre to Lamborghini for the Gallardo and Murcielago platforms. DigiTyre’s components comprise wheel electronics, an ECU, two antennae and four LF satellite triggers. The wheel electronics contain a battery, absolute pressure sensor, temperature sensor, accelerometer, micro controller and radio transmitter/receiver housed in a robust wheel housing. By mounting this onto the rear of a modified valve there are no rim modifications and the installation becomes very straightforward. The four LF satellite triggers allow the wheels on the car to be swapped or changed; the system instantly learns the wheels when the ignition is switched on, providing immediate warnings to the driver.

The flexibility of the system allowed Lamborghini engineers the opportunity to fit the system onto the cars without costly modifications to the existing platforms. “Our system is highly configurable,” continues Bailey. “We can adjust software, diagnostics and CAN messaging whilst retaining the proven hardware. This allows us to integrate our components within an existing vehicle architecture, a feature that is attractive to low volume manufacturers.”

The requirement for TPMS is being driven by legislation and tyre construction. Modern rigid tyre walls mean that any drop in pressure will only lead to slight increased flexing of the wall when the vehicle is stationary making it difficult to visibly spot pressure loss. Under inflation can lead to increased loading on the tread shoulders, leading to difficult vehicle handling and loss of control on wet surfaces. The TREAD act makes it mandatory for passenger vehicles and light trucks sold in the USA to be fitted with a pressure monitoring system.

TPMS is fitted as standard on US specification MY08 Gallardo and Murcielago vehicle lines and is an option in other markets. "

- Deliveries to customers in 2007 to increase by 15% to 2400 units
- Exponential growth of sales and profit
- Increase in Asia Pacific deliveries exceeds 25%
Tokyo/Sant´Agata Bolognese (Italy), October 25, 2007. After strong sales and profit growth during the previous years, Automobili Lamborghini is heading for another record year in 2007. Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, has announced at Tokyo Motor Show that all the key results (indicators) from the House of the Bull will show a strong increase once more. The manufacturer of luxury sports cars plans a sum total of deliveries to customers of 2400 units, representing a 15 percent increase over the 2006 financial year. As of today, 2007 deliveries already exceed the total full year deliveries of 2087 units in 2006.
“After having achieved our turnaround into profit in 2004, and with our subsequent move into the group of the most profitable car manufacturers, 2007 marks another strengthening of the corporation and the Lamborghini brand. Thus, we have made another substantial step towards our target of becoming the most profitable super sports car manufacturer in the world”, Winkelmann stated.
The region showing the strongest growth will be Asia Pacific with increased deliveries of more than 25%. The most significant market in the region is Japan, which has seven exclusive dealership partners. Japan is the fifth most important market for Lamborghini world-wide. Due to the region´s growth dynamics, Lamborghini is in line with its strategy to establish an equal division of delivery volumes between Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.
The main factors contributing to Lamborghini’s growth and profitability are its youngest and most attractive product range that includes another recently launched model, the Gallardo Superleggera; the focused expansion of the dealership network; and further increase of brand appeal with customers and the public.
In order to continue Automobili Lamborghini’s success in the future, the dealer network will be expanded consistently as will the product portfolio.
The continuing fervent demand for the two model lines, Lamborghini Gallardo and Lamborghini Murciélago, as well as for the newly presented Lamborghini Reventón is the base for the new record achievement. Lamborghini’s full production is sold out until the end of 2008.

Volkswagen To Sell Lamborghini Sports Cars In South Korea
SEOUL, Oct 26 Asia Pulse - Lamborghini SpA, the Italian sports-car unit of Volkswagen AG, said Friday it will sell the luxury sports cars in South Korea next year under a local dealership to take advantage of the country's booming market for imported vehicles.

At a press conference in Seoul, Lamborghini President Stephan Winkelmann said his company would target South Korean drivers in the age bracket of 30s and 40s.

Lamborghini would sell Gallardo and Murcielago cars priced as much as 538 million won (US$587,000) including taxes here, according to the company's statement.

Sales of imported cars in South Korea are expected to grow 12 percent to 45,500 units this year, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association.

The association predicted sales of imported cars in South Korea to reach 70,000 units by 2010.

Lamborghini is rushing to unleash a monstrous, lightweight, rear-drive rocketship supercar late next year, as a last hurrah for Lamborghini’s Murcielago. Sources at Sant’Agata insist the new V12 flagship car will have even more power than the 650bhp Reventón, and will be crushingly fast in a straight line.

To be dubbed the SV, Autocar understands that the new two-wheel drive Murcielago will be at least 100kg lighter than the Murcielago LP640’s 1660kgs. Aome insiders say the weight savings could amount to as much as 130kg.

Losing the front differential and driveshafts will save Lamborghini more than 40kg alone, while lessons learned from the Gallardo Superleggera project will help for a great deal more.

The LP640’s welded-tube steel chassis is a more difficult proposition to pare down than the aluminium-bodied Gallardo, though, and most of the larger car’s body panels are already in carbon fibre. Only its roof and door panels are aluminium.

Lambo’s dieticians will show no murcie

Lamborghini sources insist the SV program has followed the Superleggera program by dividing the focus into three areas: the interior, the exterior and the mechanicals.

The body and the interior are the obvious parts to deal with first. The latter will become carbonfibre central; the inner door skins, the seat shells and the centre tunnel are all expected to be made from the stuff. The current leather-lined door panel will be replaced by one piece of die-cast carbon with a pull strap for a door handle. That will save around 2kg per door.

Lamborghini will strip out the Kenwood multimedia system but, if it follows the Superleggera program, it will happily sell it back to you as an option.

The electronic systems to raise and lower the spoiler, air intakes and front end will also go, and Lamborghini is almost certain to offer two carbonfibre rear wings – one far wider and more outrageous than the other.

Sources insist that the Murcielago SV will receive all-new forged and machined alloy rims, which will save at least 6kg per corner themselves. The saving will be bigger in the rear, because the wheels are larger.

The car will come as standard with the E-Gear transmission, both because it saves nearly 2kg and because Lamborghini is worried that life will be busy enough for SV drivers without negotiating the chromed gearshift gate of a manual transmission.

There will also be massive weight losses through replacing aluminium structural parts with magnesium (brackets, for example) and any non-stressed component will also be lightened.

Powertrain engineers to find another 30 horses

So what of the Murcielago’s glorious mill? Insiders are saying that as much as 680bhp is possible, along with 516lb ft of torque, from what may be the final iteration of a 6.5-litre V12 that can trace its heritage to the pre-Muira era at Lamborghini. Expect new, lighter exhaust internals to serve the dual purposes of cutting weight and easing back pressure.

The Murcielago’s traction control software will be heavily tweaked to cope with power being pumped exclusively through the rear wheels. The Murcielago has no skid-control systems. It will also have the fastest shift on a Lamborghini to date; shift times could drop from the current 0.4 seconds to just 0.2.

Besides the road cars, Lamborghini could also use the car for homologation for privateer teams already running in the FIA GT championship. (Autocar)

No less than seven Lamborghini Gallardo GT3s (four of them as guest
entries) were entered for the final race of the International GT Open at
Barcelona. A total of 25 cars in the GTS category, including the
competition from Ferrari, Dodge, Porsche, Aston Martin and Marcos,
lined up at the start.
The Gallardo demonstrated in practice that it would number among the
top favourites for victory. Four of the Reiter Engineering designed and
built GT cars topped the time sheets. In particular the Gallardos entered
by First Racing from France with Leclerc / Tuchbant and Dubreuil /
Amadu. The examples from MIK Corse (Piccini / Cadei) and Racing Box
(Vosse / Geri) were also at the head of the field.
The Lamborghini armada was narrowly beaten in the qualifying session
deciding the starting grid for the two-hour ten-minute race. During the two
qualifying sessions both drivers from one team qualify the car, the
resulting average lap time determines the grid position. Bruno Dubreuil
and Ulric Amadu had to settle for second position after missing the GTS
pole position by a mere two-tenths-of-a-second. Their team mates
Antoine Leclerc and David Tuchbant were fourth fastest. The German
‘wild card’ entries Rainer Stiefel / Michael Raja were in the thick of the
action in eleventh place in this strong field.
Lamborghini bid the 2007 International GT Open season farewell with a
podium finish. Dubreuil / Amadu from First Racing took the chequered
flag as third in the GTS category after more than two hours of racing. The
second best Gallardo duo in the race dominated by a long safety car
period was Leclerc / Tuchbant also from First Racing.
Final standings GTS Class - International GT Open Series:

Italian super car maker Lamborghini is on track for record sales in 2007 and sees no threat from a stronger euro or a downturn in the US economy, according to the company's chief executive.

Lamborghini, a unit of Volkswagen AG's Audi, expects to sell 2400 of its hand-made vehicles in 2007, up 15 per cent from 2006, the company said.
The Italian car maker offered the sales projection at the Los Angeles auto show, where it showed off its $US1.5 million ($NZ2.0 million) Reventon, the most expensive car it has ever built.
Lamborghini will make only 20 of the super-sleek Reventon models and sold out that limited run in less than a week.
Eleven of the 20 vehicles were sold in the US and five of those in California, the biggest single market for Lamborghini, chief executive Stephan Winkelmann told Reuters.
Winkelmann said he has seen no sign that the slump in the once high-flying California real estate market was hurting demand for Lamborghini, which competes with the likes of Ferrari in speed and exclusivity.
"So far we have not seen any sign that there is a crisis," Winkelmann said.
The stronger euro has also not cost Lamborghini sales in the US, although the company has not raised pricing to reflect the weaker dollar, he said.
"It's clearly affecting our profitability but it has not kept us from making sales in the United States," he said.
Even if an economic recession in the US market began to hurt demand for luxury goods, Lamborghini would be shielded by its 12-month backlog of customer orders, Winkelmann said.
The US accounts for about 40 per cent of the brand's sales. California represents over a quarter of sales.
Winkelmann, who has spearheaded an increase in Lamborghini's dealer network since becoming CEO in 2004, said that planned expansion was nearing its end.
Lamborghini will end the year with about 110 dealers, up from 65 in 2005, he said. The company's largest dealership is in Orange County, just south of Los Angeles.
Winkelmann said Lamborghini could add another 20 dealerships in the coming years. "For the time being, I don't see the need for higher numbers," he said.
As it slows the growth in showrooms, Lamborghini will look for revenue growth in areas outside auto sales, including licensing and arranging tours and driving academies for groups of its loyal owners, Winkelmann said. "As a manufacturer, you have to add value, but the first rule for us is not to dilute the value of the brand," he said. "We are in the luxury business -- with all of the complexity of the auto business."

LAMBORGHINI UNVEILS FASHION INSPIRED TRENDS FOR THEIR
GALLARDO AND MURCIÉLAGO MODELS AT THE DETROIT AUTO SHOW
Lamborghini Launches The Matte Trend, Proposing A New Dark Blue For Exteriors And Natural Tuscan Leather For Interiors As New Personalization Options
Automobili Lamborghini will present three brand-new examples of vehicle personalization, intentionally drawing inspiration from the most glamorous trends of the world of fashion, at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show on January 13-26, 2008.
The proposed individualizations are part of the Ad Personam personalization program. The vehicles are based on the concept of "think of the impossible" and offers Lamborghini customers the ability to create their own "original",perfectly tailor-made super sports car.
The Gallardo Spyder will be presented in an innovative Ad Personam matte brown paint, Marrone Apus, now available on standard vehicles in the wake of the enormous success met by the Reventón, the very first Lamborghini offered with a matte finish.
Marrone Apus, an elegant shade halfway between brown and black, gives off exquisite golden reflections in the sunlight due to a pigment able to imbue the paint with an iridescent look.
The interior also exhibits a new shade of brown Alcantara, named Marrone Gaia which is used to upholster the seats. The fabric is combined with Marrone Janus and Bianco Polar leather, with the addition of Pianolac used to cover the center console and steering wheel.
A new shade of light blue, Blu Cepheus, also joins the Ad Personam program. It is proposed for the exteriors of the Murciélago LP640 Coupé and Roadster in Detroit. This pale blue is reminiscent of the naturalistic environment and is deliberately inspired by the purity and transparency of polar ice, in addition to depicting one of the most glamorous shades in fashion today.
This shade also benefits from the same iridescent effects of the matte paint. The same pigment selected for Marrone Apus is used in this case to attain and exalt a more primary blue when reflecting sunlight. Blu Cepheus is iridescent in the light just like icebergs, although it maintains its monochromatic nature.
Another novelty of the Ad Personam program is the leather selected for the interiors of the Murciélago LP640 Roadster. This leather covers the elegant seats of this super sports car, an Italian leather, in keeping with Tuscany’s prestigious tanning tradition. It is untreated, inspired by the natural leather found on horse saddles and leads to natural changes in color over time, a tendency that confirms its natural state and total absence of treatments.
“Lamborghini is strongly focusing on the Ad Personam personalization program due to the importance of offering customers the widest range of possibilities for individualizing their cars. This allows them the ability to reflect their own personality and style,” states Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “Many of our customers take advantage of this program as a tool for owning an even more exclusive Lamborghini.”

"It's a long way to travel between Italy and America. Not only is it how far Lamborghini road cars have to travel to meet their new owners here in the US, but it's also the divide American dealerships have had to bridge in order to provide the level of service that customers expect when dropping six figures on a new car. And that's a gap Sant'Agata intends to narrow with the establishment of Automobili Lamborghini America LLC.
Establishing a field office in the US – to be placed somewhere on the East Coast or in California – will give its US dealership network a local address with which to coordinate instead of dealing directly with the factory. The American subsidiary will also provide product planning input back to the factory. The United States represents the largest market for Lamborghini where its sales rose from 100 units in 2001 to 900 in 2007.
Although Lamborghini has had operations in the United States under previous ownership – remember how it bounced around owners through the 80s and 90s? – this will be the first American division since Volkswagen/Audi took over in 1998. The field office will operate with a staff of ten, headed up by Pietro Frigerio, formerly Lamborghini's western United States regional sales manager.
Lamborghini has also announced that it will extend its warranties for 2008 from the previous 2 years/24,000 miles to 3 years with unlimited mileage. The company is also considering a certified pre-owned vehicle program and a financing framework."

Driver crashes £126,000 supercar
By James Rush ([email protected])
http://images.newsquest.co.uk/image.php?id=821350&type=fullThe Lamborghini after the crash on Mayo Avenue
A £126,000 Lamborghini was badly damaged when it collided with a stationary Vauxhall Corsa - sending it careering into a garden.
People living in Mayo Avenue, Bradford, said they heard the roar of the engine of the bright orange supercar moments before today's crash.
Corsa owner, Richard Venner, 21, said he had been hoping to sell the car for about £400, before it ended up in his neighbour's garden.
He said: "My car was parked near enough outside my house, but has ended up in my next door neighbour's garden. I had a brand new 32-inch television in the car as well, but that's totally ruined now."
Chris Toney, 25, who lives at the house damaged by the Corsa, said: "It has completely demolished the wall.
"We heard the crash and then when we went outside, there was the Corsa in my garden.
advertisement

"It was parked about four or five metres away from my house, so it's travelled quite a way.
"I don't envy whoever owned the Lamborghini though."
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed the Corsa was stationary at the time of the collision.
The top speed of a Lamborghini Gallardo coupe is 196mph and it costs a formidable £126,350 brand new.
Mr Toney, an IT engineer, said he was relieved his car had not been damaged in the accident. He said: "It hasn't damaged mine but some bricks did end up hitting my dad's car.
"Normally my mum's car is parked on the road there, so it would have totally ruined that, like it has with the Corsa."
Wayne Adlington, 36, who also lives in Mayo Avenue, also heard the crash.
He said: "You could hear the Lamborghini going up the road, because obviously it has a pretty big engine.
"Then I heard this almighty rev of the engine just moments before a loud bang.
"If anybody had been standing there they would have been killed straight away."
Mr Adlington said the Corsa had been forced through a gap between the wall and an adjoining fence.
He said: "That is why their wall has fallen forward on to the pavement, and the car has ricocheted almost into their garden."
The cause of the accident is being investigated by police.

Asus’ latest Lamborghini

IF YOU liked the Asus’ Lamborghini-style notebook, the VX, but found it a tad too big to carry around, Asus has one just for you in the form of the VX3.
Featuring the same signature yellow or black colour schemes and the styling reminiscent of the Lamborghini sport cars, the VX3 is however, a smaller and lighter notebook, and features a 12.1in widescreen display and weighs in at just 1.68kg.
The nice premium touches are still there, including the genuine stitched cowhide palmrest overlay, a swivelling webcam with sapphire crystal front, titanium alloy hinge and gold plated trims.
This isn’t just a smaller VX notebook, however, as the specifications have been updated with the latest Penryn-based Intel Core 2 Duo processors, which run at a speedy 2.6GHz with 6MB of Level 2 cache. Other details are scarce as we couldn’t confirm what graphics processor the notebook will be using, or the price although you can be sure that it’s not going to be cheap.

Lamborghini boss zooms in to meet team
__________________

Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann had to suffer in alternative luxury on a visit to Auckland because his luggage would not fit in one of his cars.

The president of Automobili Lamborghini flew into Auckland to visit New Zealand's only dealership but the entourage was not greeted by one of its own.
"There's three of them and their luggage so we sent a four-door Bentley out to pick them up," Lamborghini Auckland general manager Mike Clark said.
The 24-hour visit was part of a tour to open two new dealerships in Australia and meet the New Zealand sales team.
The Auckland dealership had seen something of a renaissance for the Italian supercars since the company was taken over by Audi. "That was like a breath of fresh air," Mr Clark said.
Since then the Gallardo and Murcielago models, released in 2004 and 2005, had been very popular and had invigorated demand.
Only six Lamborghinis a year are sold in New Zealand, and only 2000 a year are made.
The usual models sell at between $365,000 and $575,000.
New Zealand did not get any of the most recently produced Lamborghini Reventon - only 20 were made and pre-sold for 1 million (NZ$1.83 million) each.
However, Mr Clark said one limited-edition Lamborghini Murcielago Versace model was sold in New Zealand last year for $820,000 - but he declined to say who bought it.
The car was number 19 of 20 produced and was internally decorated by Versace, complete with a pair of Versace shoes, a Versace clutch-bag, a three-piece Versace leather luggage set designed to fit the Lamborghini's "boot" - and all numbered 19 to match the car.
There was a simple answer to the question of who bought Lamborghinis, Mr Clark said. "Very rich, very successful people. There is no typecast."
Lamborghini owners owned the cars for the pleasure of owning them, and the fact New Zealand roads were unlikely to let the cars reach full throttle was not a typical pre-purchase concern.
"We get that lot from people who have no aspiration to buy the car."

Motor Authority )- There’s usually nothing worth mentioning about a Bluetooth headset but here’s one that will get the attention of most performance enthusiasts. The device is the ‘ Tonino Lamborghini Bello ’ and apart from Lamborghini’s shield emblem on the outer casing there’s not much that the headset has in common with the Italian supercar brand.

The headset is sold under the Tonino Lamborghini, a brand of exclusive watches and leather goods, and it was apparently designed with some input by Ferruccio Lamborghini’s own son Tonino .
http://news.trend.az/dataimage/thumbnails_news/_Lamborghini_bello_240308.jpg
Some of its stats include up to six hours of talk time, 160 hours of standby, an operating range of 10m, plus both headset and handsfree profiles.

A $70 Bluetooth headset is an odd product for Lamborghini to lend its name too and unfortunately it appears to be a growing trend in the auto industry, plus it’s not just the carmakers either. Legendary design houses like Pininfarina and Bertone have also sold out their respective names to be used on cheap gadgets.

Automobili Lamborghini joins the circle of most profitable car brands
- Profit grows by 160 per cent, pre-tax profit margin reaches 10.1 per cent
- Sales increase by 35 per cent to 467 Mio. Euro
- Deliveries up by 15.3 per cent to 2406 super sportscars
- Continuing expansion of dealer network
Milano/S.Agata di Bolognese, 1.4.2008. The Italian manufacturer of luxury sports cars Automobili Lamborghini SpA, based in Sant’ Agata Bolognese, has achieved a further record year’s financial results. In the 2007 fiscal year (December 31), the company has surpassed all key objectives for deliveries, sales and net profit. 2007 marks the sixth consequent record year for Lamborghini.
Deliveries of 2406 super sports cars with the raging bull logo were delivered to customers worldwide. This is an increase of 15,3 per cent over the previous year, which saw the 2000 unit threshold being surpassed for the first time in the company´s history with 2087 units.
The turnover also increased once more, by 34,9 per cent from 346,3 Mio. Euro to 467,1 Mio. Euro.
The growth was driven by Lamborghini’s most important and strategic markets. Deliveries in Northern America - the most significant market for Lamborghini – increased by more than eight per cent and surpassed the 1000 unit mark for the first time (1001 units). In Europe, deliveries increased by 22 per cent from 748 to 959 units, whilst in the rest of the world´s markets (RoW), the increase was 18 per cent (348 to 446 units). With Europe and RoW showing even stronger growth rates than North America, Lamborghini is coming closer to an even sales split across the three world regions once more.
According to the company, the continuing growth results from several factors. Firstly, Lamborghini has succeeded in consistently expanding its presence on the world’s markets by opening up additional strategic markets like Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
Secondly, Lamborghini’s growth was due to the further expansion of the dealer network. In 2007 alone, a further ten dealerships were opened in the world´s metropolises, to over 100 outlets for the first time. Lamborghini is now present in all the important markets for luxury sports cars.
Lamborghini also achieved an over proportionate growth in profit versus turnover: the profit growth of 160 per cent to 47,1 Mio. Euro (18,1 Mio. Euro in 2006) means another record in terms of annual profit achieved, and results in a double-digit pre-tax profit figure for the first time in the company’s history.
More than that, the marque has the youngest and most attractive model line-up ever, augmented by the launch of another model in 2007, the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. Increasing brand and product awareness as well as the strong and rising brand value are also key factors in the company’s success.
Commenting on the results, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini Stephan Winkelmann, said: “Our relentless focus on increasing our brand value, an extraordinary product range and the global presence of the corporation is beginning to pay-off on a world-wide scale. Following some years of building both the company and the brand we now belong to the group of ‘most profitable car manufacturers’: however, we will continue to work towards our ultimate objective of becoming the most profitable super sports car manufacturer. We will continuously develop our model line-up, our presence and the ‘shine’ of the brand.”
The ongoing year 2008 is giving reason for continuing confidence: high demand for the entire product range is maintained. The worldwide launch of the new Gallardo Coupe LP560-4 took place at Geneva Motor Show in March: the LP560-4 replaces the original Gallardo Coupe first launched in 2003, on which Lamborghini built the volume and profitability of its business.

Lamborghini’s made the play on iTunes with a new podcast called “The World of Lamborghini.” If you think that’s a snug, blazingly fast world tucked inside your iPhone or iPod, you’re right — the Italian supercar maker is churning out videos that it says will “ignite the world’s enthusiasm for the most amazing vehicles on the planet.”
Not to sound too cocky, but they’re also planning on expanding the initial launch of five podcasts with regular additions to their feed. The podcasts first feature the Reventon version of the Murcielago, a personalization program for owners, and a three-part series dubbed “Closer to the Road.”

Automobili Lamborghini SpA confirms strategy for China on third anniversary
of attendance at Beijing motor show
Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed the
importance placed by Lamborghini on the Chinese market, as the Italian super sports car
marque attends the Beijing Motor Show. “China provides an extremely strong opportunity
for market growth: we have an objective to triple our annual sales in the region this year,”
said Winkelmann. “We are in the process of establishing and developing our dealer
network in China with highly professional and committed partners, ensuring the
comprehensive representation necessary in this region to respond to the ever-increasing
demand for the Lamborghini marque.
Lamborghini currently operates three dealerships in China: in Beijing, Shanghai and
Guangzhou, plus a further franchised outlet in Hong Kong where sales are also set to double
in 2008. Lamborghini opened its first Chinese showroom in Beijing in November 2004 in
the city centre’s prestigious Oriental Plaza, moving to new facilities in the Regent Hotel a
year ago.
“Lamborghini has extremely strong international brand recognition and brand appeal, with
our cars not only acknowledged as high performance super sports cars, but as highly
aspirational luxury acquisitions. We want to become the most profitable super sports car
manufacturer world-wide. China is a country where the ‘car culture’ is developing hand in
hand with the luxury goods market, and Lamborghini is committed to developing the
infrastructure and brand presence in China required to meet our retail customers’ demands.“
“As in all markets however, we will continue to protect our brand USPs: one of which is
the exclusivity of Lamborghini. We continue to maintain solid order banks with a
minimum 12 month lead-time throughout our world markets: the exclusive nature of
Lamborghini is extremely important to all our clients.”
Winkelmann also recognises that Lamborghini’s own growth will be partly dictated by the
growth of China’s own economy and infrastructure. “China shows extraordinary economic
and social development. As infrastructure elements such as the road network develop -
essential to the performance car market - and the demand for high luxury items spreads to
the regions, so too will the growth of our brand and retail representation.”
Lamborghini announced record financial results for 2007. In comparison to ’06
figures, turnover increased 35% to €467 million, with a 160% growth in profit
providing a pre-tax profit margin of 10.1%. Deliveries worldwide increased by over
15% to 2406 units.
Deliveries to Asia Pacific markets increased by 18% in 2007, alongside an 8% growth
for the North American market (Lamborghini’s most significant) and a 22% increase
in European deliveries.
“Our objective has always been to balance our business activities across these three
markets: North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. In 2007 we met our target
development in our Asia Pacific regions, of which China played an essential part last
year and will be increasingly significant in the future,” concluded Winkelmann.
“China will be one of our overall most important markets within future years.”
Lamborghini will be represented at Beijing motor show. The Beijing show will host
the Asian launch of the new Gallardo Coupé LP560-4, first unveiled at Geneva show
in March 2008. The new car replaces the original Gallardo Coupé first launched in
2003: with increased power to 560 hp (hence its new name); enhanced acceleration
and top speed performance; new engineering including engine and suspension;
deliveries of the restyled Gallardo will commence in China and throughout the world
in Summer 2008.

Future Lamborghinis will use no more than 20 per cent of Audi parts in an attempt to stave off criticism that the firm’s Gallardo shares too many key characteristics with the Audi R8.
Company president Stephen Winkelmann has ordered a change in policy designed to maintain Lamborghini’s integrity. “We have an internal rule that in future common parts will never exceed 20 per cent,” he said.
“In the future, we will always work together just on the hidden parts — parts that will not touch the DNA of Lamborghini.
“That could include things like the electrical platforms that need high investment, or hoses and filters, but we have to safeguard against too much of it.”
The new Gallardo LP560/4’s V10 is cast in the same factory as several Audi engines, and its block and cylinder heads are built on the same line as all of Audi’s petrol engines.
Lamborghini industrial director Klaus Peter Korner said component and technology sharing with Audi was beneficial for the larger company, too.
“Audi had no experience at all with a car like the Murciélago,” he said. “They learn from us to use smaller tools and cheaper tools for small series cars. In this way we are working together.
“We have a quality benchmark with Audi. We get the best and the fastest, and Audi gets us the cheapest.”
He believes that Lamborghini customers are not interested in the origin of minor components. “The customer isn’t interested in Audi or VW logos on a tube, or who each clip is produced by. We use the same parts [as Audi] when it’s possible and when it gives us higher quality.
“That way, for the customer, it has to be an improvement when we share parts. When it’s better to have a unique solution, we should do it.”

Lamborghini opening new retail outlet in Vegas

Supercar brands such as Ferrari and Lamborghini constantly have to deal with the conflict between boosting profits (usually by selling more cars) and retaining exclusivity. In the past, the carmakers have done this be building less cars than their customers demanded.

In recent times, they have increased revenues by expanding their core operations.

We’ve seen Ferrari open a chain of new retail stores over the past six years, including the latest in London, and now it appears Lamborghini is set to do the same.

INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi AG is "sounding out options for cooperating with Volkswagen on the construction of a new plant" in North America, said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management, in a speech on Wednesday at the company's annual meeting.

"Given the current value of the dollar, we stand to benefit tremendously from having our own local production facilities," Stadler said. "Until now, the growth that we have seen throughout the world has not translated into growth in the U.S. market to the extent that we would like." He emphasized: "We would also like to be more successful in North America."

The speech was a wide-ranging report card on the state of the German automaker. Stadler covered everything from Audi's plan to take the edge off of soaring gas prices to the health of Lamborghini. He even previewed the company's third-generation Multi Media Interface, saying new features would include three-dimensional navigation views of buildings and routes.

Stadler said Audi "will implement further internal engine modifications which will help to reduce fuel consumption in various model lines by as much as 18 percent in 2008." He added: "We aim to cut fuel consumption by at least 20 percent by 2012." Stadler also hinted that turbocharging and aluminum body parts may play a large role in accomplishing this.

In one of the more intriguing parts of his presentation, Stadler lauded Lamborghini for its "astonishing" performance in 2007. "We continue to experience overwhelming demand for the Italian supercar," he said. "Two-thousand four-hundred-six of these exceptional vehicles were sold in 2007, an increase of more than 15 percent. The company's figures present an extremely healthy overall situation." Revenue was increased by almost 35 percent to the equivalent of $718 million. Profit before tax was up by an astonishing 160 percent, to $72.3 million.

Stadler also said that, in the first quarter of 2008, Lamborghini saw its unit sales climb by more than 20 percent, to 639 vehicles.

Lamborghini picks L.A. for U.S. HQ

By MARK RECHTIN, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS (http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/personalia?ID=ANRECHTIN&category=contact)

Turns out you can’t spell Lamborghini without L.A.

Automobili Lamborghini has created a separate sales arm for its North American operations--the first such business unit outside of Italy. It will be headquartered in the beachside Los Angeles suburb of Santa Monica, California.

North America represented 41 percent of Lamborghini’s 2,406 units sold in 2007. However, California represented about one-third of North American sales. Taken singly, California would have been the second-largest nationality, larger than sales in either Italy or Germany.

Although there was much debate whether to place the U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles or on the East Coast, the importance of the California market won out, said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

“While we will have to wait until the afternoons to call California from Italy, it was the best decision,” Winkelmann said at an interview at the media launch of the redesigned Gallardo LP560-4.

“California is where the future trends are. It’s where our PR agency is. It’s where many of our buyers are,” he added.

For 2007, Lamborghini posted a net pre-tax profit of 47.1 million euros ($72.8 million at current exchange rates) on revenues of 467 million euros ($721.7 million), up from an 18.1 million euro ($28.0 million) profit on 346.3 million euros ($535.2 million) in revenues in 2006.

Said Winkelmann: “It’s the first time we’ve ever earned real money.”

Italy's super sports car purveyor Lamborghini this year will iron out details for dealers to sell certified pre-owned versions of its vehicles, to be supported with broadcast advertising.
"The certified pre-owned program will be launched worldwide, starting in the U.S. and Europe," said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "We are now facing discussions with our dealers to work out the details."
Winkelmann said the certified used cars will be available only via dealerships, which will be allowed to do "above the line advertising," such as broadcast spots. Creative for those spots, however, will have to come from Lamborghini, Bologna, Italy.
"We will handle that as well as our agency, and then the dealers can put their location and whatever deal they might have at the end," said Manfred Fitzgerald, brand design and director at Lamborghini.
The new program is a smart move for Lamborghini, said Jack Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book and Kbb.com. It gives authorized dealers a leg up on other luxury brokers that buy the cars from private sellers or at auctions.
"It is certainly ground breaking for a brand of this type to do what is typically more a gambit of the more mundane brands," Nerad said. "It might give a lot of people some piece of mind when considering the brand, as well. When you look at it, it appears to be a logical thing to do."
Lamborghini's sales worldwide last year grew 15.3% to 2,406 vehicles, per the company. North America represents 41% of Lamborghini's sales, while Europe accounts for 40%. Lamborghini has 34 dealers in the U.S. and three in Canada. Lamborghini dealers spent $100,000 last year on advertising, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.
Certified pre-owned, or used cars, are generally cars that pass a manufacturer's inspection—with some having as many as 160 different points of mechanical and cosmetic examination—before going on sale. In most cases, the certified cars can only be sold in branded dealerships, as in the plan Lamborghini is working on. The practice is common among other, nonexclusive brands like Honda.
"You've got a company that is looking to increase its overall sales in the U.S., and this is a good way of increasing brand recognition and awareness, and at the same time, selling more vehicles," said Tara Baukus Mello, lead market analyst at NADAguides.com, Costa Mesa, Calif. Offering certified pre-owned cars will not diminish the brand, she said, "You can't lose specialness when you are Lamborghini."
Ferrari, Lamborghini's prime competitor, has offered a pre-owned vehicle program in North America since 2003 and earlier this year announced a used program in the U.K. to certify seven of its models dating back to 1998. For that program, Ferrari uses a 190-point inspection process.
Maserati, another Lamborghini competitor, also has a certified pre-owned program in North America, offering buyers a one-year warranty or a total of 90,000 miles.

BEVERLY HILLS, California — Automobili Lamborghini America LLC has confirmed for Inside Line that it will base its U.S. operations in Santa Monica, California.

Pietro Frigerio, who has served as Automobili Lamborghini's area manager for North America, will become the chief operating officer of the newly formed company, said Soon Nguyen, Lamborghini spokesman in an e-mail on Monday.

The move is noteworthy because Lamborghini has created a separate sales arm for its North American operations, the first such unit outside of Italy. California represents about one-third of Lamborghini's North American sales.

California has been a mecca for many automakers, from Honda to Hyundai. The conventional wisdom in the U.S. auto industry is that trends tend to start on the West Coast and work their way through the rest of the nation.

What this means to you: L.A. becomes the epicenter of Lamborghini's North American offensive in what is widely regarded as a smart move. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Those worried that the coming U.S. CAFE regulations could tame the aggression of supercars need not be so concerned, according to a recent Automotive News interview with Automobili Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winklemann.

Winklemann said that due to Lamborghini's small production volume and high level of performance, its cars will never meet coming emissions standards, and engines will not be downsized in an attempt to stifle their gas-guzzling ways. The Lamborghini chief noted that part of the aura about a performance car is not only the acceleration, but also the aural thrill that Winklemann says is provided by Lamborghini's current large-displacement V-10 and V-12 engines.

While Winklemann admits that social acceptance of supercars is something his company will have to be aware of in coming years, he also claims that the total environmental impact of modern Lamborghinis is not as large as some may think.

"We will never reach the emissions that are asked for," said Winklemann. "We are selling very few cars, and our customers drive less than 5,000 miles per year, so it's a very small impact."

Lamborghini had a pretax profit of $73.8 million dollars last year, with total sales reaching 2604 units worldwide -- one of its best years in history. Winklemann also cast doubt on increasing Lamborghini sales diminishing the exclusivity of the brand.

"It's just a number," said Winklemann. "Bentley sold 10,000 cars last year, and they are still exclusive."

Winklemann also reiterated that there are no current plans for a future two-plus-two style coupe or SUV such as the Lamborghini LM002 of the 1980s, citing limited engineering resources and a focus on performance automobiles. Winklemann also stated that there has thus far been zero contact or involvement from Porsche after three of its supervisory board members were appointed to Audi, Lamborghini's parent company.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann is not worried about fuel-economy or emission standards set by the government. Winkelman said that while a supercars are all about how fast they accelerates or the top speed, it does matter how the car sounds.
In an interview with Automotive News, reporter Mark Rechtin asked Winkelmann whether Lamborghini will downsize its V10 and V12 engines in order to meet future CO2 regulations. Simply put, Winkelmann replied “No. We are selling very few cars, and our customers drive less than 5,000 miles a year, so it’s a very small impact.”

Winkelmann also said that the company has no plans to make major changes to its lineup; so you can kill all those rumors of a Lambo SUV. He said that with only 150 engineers the company is working at its full-capacity.
When asked if Lamborghini worries about Audi adding three Porsche executives to its supervisory board, Winkelmann replied that he has no contact with the Porsche guys.
“Porsche sells 100,000 cars a year. We sell 2,500. I don’t see any overlapping in terms of products.”

Lamborghini's driver revels in turn of fortune

By Andrew English

Last Updated: 12:37am BST 30/05/2008

Stephan Winklemann's problems aren't those of a normal motor-industry chief executive. The dapper 43-year-old's company has just announced its sixth year of record profits, as well as sales margins that place it among the premier cru of top-earning motor makers, and he has enormous pent-up demand for his products, even though he offers just variations on two basic themes.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/graphics/2008/05/30/cnlambo130.jpgHeight of luxury: the £122,000 Gallardo LP560-4

But then Lamborghini, with its raging bull mascot, is no ordinary company. Founded in 1963 after an Italian tractor manufacturing magnate, Ferruccio Lamborghini, who became exasperated with Ferrari's feudal customer relations, it had a chequered financial history until its rescue by the Volkswagen Group in 1998.

The Gallardo, the "baby bull", designed by Luc Donckerwolke and first launched in 2003, has been largely responsible for turning round the fortunes at the company, which is based in Sant'Agata, near the Italian city of Bologna.

Since the launch, more than 7,100 Gallardos have been delivered. Last year Lamborghini sold 2,406 cars, made a €47.1m profit (£37.5m) - up 160pc on 2006 - and achieved a record breaking 10.1pc return on sales revenues.
More on autos (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?menuId=242&menuItemId=10288&view=HEADLINESUMMARY2&grid=F7&targetRule=14) Even allowing for the dark arts of transfer pricing between Lamborghini, its sister company Audi and its owners, the VW Group, this is impressive stuff.
So are these figures a fair reflection of the company's worth? "Yes, they are, there is no hidden help from VW and I think that we can do even better," says Winklemann taking a break from launching the latest version of the Gallardo, the £122,000 LP560-4 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
advertisement

German-born, Italian-raised Mr Winklemann was recruited for the top job in 2004 from Fiat in Germany. Billed as the most Italian German to run Lamborghini, he has a foot in both cultures. It's a perfect vantage point to maintain the delicate balancing act between Audi and Lamborghini, especially when it comes to accusations of the Italian cars being merely gussied-up Audis.
"We could trade our exclusivity and go into volume markets on our own," he says, "or we share about 10pc of common parts with VW and we retain our DNA and our exclusivity, and we gain in reliability I think." It's a model that has worked for companies such as Aston Martin with Ford, and Ferrari with Fiat, but Mr Winklemann agrees it is a fine line.
"Look at the exotic car makers all around us," he says, "they have all had to look for relationships, alliances and synergies, without which they would have been destroyed, but there is the danger the mother company wants to save too many costs and they lose their markets."
With just the two models, the Gallardo and the £175,000 Murciélago, isn't Mr Winklemann worried that Lamborghini will simply default to producing endless special editions of the same two cars, a position that rival Porsche and non-rival Saab have been in?
"Ah yes, the third model question," he says adroitly anticipating my follow-up. "Certainly I don't want to end up offering the same thing with a different badge on the front, but we are going to continue down this road for the moment because I don't think it is time for a third model."
He reckons a third model would need a huge amount of cash flow which is something that Lamborghini, for all its bright figures, hasn't generated enough of yet. It would take the focus out of marketing and Winklemann is determined that the company will keep its discipline on having a perfect match between the brand and the product, "which a lot of companies don't have", he says.
But hasn't the supercar ship set sail for who-knows-where in mature markets like Europe where environmental concerns are taking over from an appreciation of Italian thoroughbred cars?
Winklemann smiles. Lamborghini sales are still mainly in the old worlds of Europe (40pc), the US (41pc) and not enough in the emerging markets of the Far East and Pacific rim, which take just 19pc of production.
Winklemann would like to increase Lamborghini sales in China and the Far East, but says that doesn't mean that the bull is retreating from its environmental responsibilities elsewhere. An 18pc reduction in emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2 from the new Gallardo is part of the commitment to reduce CO2 40pc irrespective of government or EU mandates.
Similarly the pedestrian-impact protection has been expensively improved well in excess of legislative requirements for the new model.
While both cars are very high performance machines and have a considerable environmental impact, Winklemann is set on lowering their eco profile over the coming years.
"The environmental discussion is very emotional, which is not good for the industry," he says, "but we are part of the game and we need to reduce it to a less emotional level as well as reducing the friction, aerodynamics, and weight- and engine-related losses of our cars."
So could a Lamborghini ever use a diesel engine? Winklemann hesitates. "For sure the kind of engine we are putting in our cars is under discussion, but we would need to maintain the DNA of a super sports car brand, at the same time as convincing the rest of the six billion people on earth that what we are doing is OK.
"Our discussions about diesel and hybrid are not closed, but I don't think diesel is an issue for the super sports car. A mild hybrid, though, could be, but the issue is of weight; you save CO2 with the system but lose it because of the additional weight."
With Audi launching its diesel TT coupé last week and its R8 super coupé due to receive a V12 turbodiesel engine soon, some clear blue water is starting to open up between the two companies in strategy as well as sales volumes.
If Audi steers a technical path into high-performance oil-burning engines, this might provide at least a partial solution to the problem of Winklemann's giant German neighbours.
Then we can get on and celebrate the continued survival of one of the last and greatest exotic car brands.

EIGHT Lamborghinis worth $4.5 million are being flown to Australia to beat the rise in luxury car tax as top-end showrooms report a late rush of buyers desperate to register their orders before June 30.

Ferrari, Bentley, Maserati and Aston Martin expect June to be a record month as buyers take the plunge.
However, luxury dealers are nervous that sales will drop off in July, when the luxury car tax will add $17,000 to the price of an Aston Martin and $70,000 to a Rolls-Royce.
Bevan Clayton, of prestige specialist Trivett Classic, said his company was air-freighting two Rolls-Royce convertibles to Australia at a cost of $25,000 each.
"Those two were ready and we could get them here, so we did it," Mr Clayton said.
He expects to find buyers for eight Rolls-Royces between now and the end of June - more than have been sold so far this year, The Australian (http://www.theaustralian.com.au/) reports.
Andrew Smith of Lamborghini said the company was paying $15,000 per car to fly out four Gallardos and four Murcielagos. "Everybody wants their car flown out because the additional cost of flying is less than the extra tax," he said.
The luxury car tax increase could add $50,000 to the price of a Murcielago supercar, which starts at $675,678. Mr Smith said the brand was on track for a bumper June.
The general manager for Bentley and Aston Martin at Trivett Classic, Michael Darakis, said his showrooms were seeing a rush, with six Bentleys sold in a matter of days.
"May is going to be huge and June's going to be better - they'll both be records. People who've been contemplating a new car are now coming to market sooner."
Ferrari and Maserati importer Ateco Automotive said the stampede began the moment word of the tax leaked out.

"We were into double figures of registrations for Ferraris and Maseratis on the Monday before the budget, because people didn't know whether the luxury tax was going to come in immediately," spokesman Edward Rowe said.

SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — Lamborghini is rolling out a certified pre-owned vehicle program through 31 authorized U.S. dealers. Starting next month, all models of the Gallardo and Murciélago will be available used, with a comprehensive warranty and roadside assistance program.

Automobili Lamborghini America Chief Operating Officer Pietro Frigerio said the program will make sure dealers are seen as the place to get used Lambos that will meet "the same high standards we demand of new Lamborghini vehicles."

Have one to trade in? The used Lamborghinis in the program will be required to have less than 22,000 miles on the odometer, carry full documentation of their maintenance, pass a "rigorous 150-point" inspection at the dealership and can only have Lamborghini original equipment and accessories installed — no other aftermarket parts.

Want to buy one? Comprehensive warranty coverage will last one year or two years and includes powertrain, suspension and steering systems, safety equipment such as ABS and airbags, and electrical, fuel and heating and A/C systems. General wear and tear, tires, maintenance service and damage "caused by misuse or the environment" are excluded.

What this means to you: Save money and squeeze all the excitement out of every dollar. Hey, it's been working well for Ferrari for a few years now. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent

Lamborghini will expand its UK dealer network with a fifth dealership to open in Reading, Berkshire next year.

Jardine Motors Group has been appointed to operate the new Lamborghini Reading dealership, to be located at Bennet Road, just off junction 11 of the M4.
Lamborghini Reading is currently operating from temporary facilities, while a brand new showroom and service centre is built to meet Lamborghini’s corporate identity standards, which will open next year.
The new Reading dealership joins Lamborghini’s existing outlets in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s president and CEO, said: “The opening of the Reading location strategically serves the Thames Valley corridor and the south west, ensuring we care for both our existing clients in the area as well as address our growing aspirational market in the region. Lamborghini has increased its worldwide dealer network from 65 outlets at the beginning of 2005 to 117 with the appointment of Lamborghini Reading.

New York (Reuters Life!) - Legal speed limits on the roadways in the northeastern United States top out at about 65 mph (105 km/h). The top speed of a Lamborghini is about 200 mph (332 km/h).
Lamborghini owners, and those who own Ferraris, Porsches and Bugattis, will have a place to let the throttle out starting on Sunday when the Monticello Motor Club opens.
The private motoring club is north of New York City, about 90 minutes away under the state's legal speed limit, and is aimed at those with a passion for driving exotic automobiles.
"This is built for the drivers. It is not meant for the spectators," said Ari Straus, chief operating officer of the club. Straus prefers to drive a Lotus.
Members, who on average own at least five exotic cars according to Straus, will be able to store their vehicles at the club. The club will also have a fleet of exotics for rent in case members want to try on something different.
And after a grueling day whipping around the 22 turns on the 4.1 mile (6.6 km) track, they can relax at a spa and dine at the club's restaurant before heading back home via car or helicopter. The club, built on the grounds of an old airport, has a helipad.
Demand has been so great, Straus said, that the club has been able to raise its initiation fee to $125,000 from $100,000.

The Silicon Valley Auto Group rolled out the red carpet for an Aug. 8 visit by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
Besides Winkelmann's appearance, a cocktail party held at the dealership at 301 N. Santa Cruz Ave. featured the unveiling of the new Gallardo LP560-4. But at $201,000, the Gallardo is not the most expensive car on the floor.
That honor falls to the $1.5 million Reventon. It is a stealth-like vehicle that is the color of an F22 fighter jet.
Winkelmann praised the dealership's location because of its visibility at the corner of North Santa Cruz and Bachman avenues.
"On the one hand it's the perfect location because everybody passes by," he said. "But the service department is five to 10 minutes away, so we'll probably get a better location in a couple of years."
Winkelmann expects to sell 30 to 40 cars a year out of the Los Gatos showroom. Worldwide, the company sold 2,406 vehicles in 2007. He said that because so few Lamborghinis are sold, the company does not leave much of a carbon footprint.
"Our impact on the global environment is zero," Winkelmann said. Already, Lamborghini has reduced emissions by 18 percent, and it is committed to doing more. "Just to give you an example, our commitment is to reduce emissions by 40 percent by 2015," Winkelmann said. "But we want to stick with our DNA, and the DNA is the sound of the engine accelerating."
He said the average Lamborghini is driven about 5,000 miles a year, and owners keep them in great shape. "They understand the reality of upkeep," he said adding, that this also helps keep the cars from being polluters.
As sales manager Ted Taormina roared down Highway 9 at 110 mph, he pointed out that the Gallardo's carbon ceramic brakes are an $18,000 option developed by NASA for the space shuttle.
The Los Gatos showroom is one of two in Northern California.
"California is the most important market all over the world, and Los Gatos and Silicon Valley are very high-end markets," Winkelmann said.
But if you can't afford one of the cars, there are little luxuries in the showroom that are affordable. For $67 you can decorate your Christmas tree with three Lamborghini orange-colored bulbs.

MSC.Software's Simulation Solutions Portfolio Empowers Engineering Designers At Lamborghini to Simulate More Reliably
SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 2, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MSC.Software (NasdaqGS:MSCS - News), the leading global provider of enterprise simulation solutions, including simulation software and services, today announced that Italian world-leading sports car manufacturer Lamborghini Automobili S.p.A. has selected MSC.Software's simulation solutions including the Adams automotive product suite to enhance their product development process. The new software capability will bring enhanced reliability into the Lamborghini simulation process and allow designers to increase the number of virtual prototypes to be performed, especially in the early phases of the development cycle. By doing this, engineers are able to simulate more reliably and reduce the need for physical prototypes. The Simulation Technologies will be licensed under MSC.Software's flexible Masterkey licensing system.
Lamborghini cars are known worldwide for their stunning performance in terms of vehicle handling and engine power delivery. In order to achieve such outstanding results, the research and development team in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy, where the Lamborghini Headquarters are located, must take advantage of best-in-class virtual prototyping software solutions to predict system performances in the early design stage. To realize this scenario, Lamborghini has now enabled their technical team full access to the broad range of Simulation Technology products from MSC.Software.
``The Masterkey licensing system allows us to access the full MSC.Software product portfolio, in particular, the Adams automotive product suite, such as Adams/Car and Adams/Driveline. These products will help Lamborghini in building virtual prototypes related to our future models, and to test them before building the real prototype,'' said Fabrizio Montagnani, Coordinator of Suspension Engineering and vehicle dynamic simulations, Lamborghini Research & Development Group. ``We will also be able to test our virtual prototype vehicles in different working conditions, to try different design solutions and to exchange sub-models with our suppliers using a standard simulation platform.''
``I am proud that a world-respected company such as Lamborghini has chosen MSC.Software's simulation solutions to further enhance the performance of their sports cars,'' said Amir Mobayen, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Sales, MSC.Software. ``Lamborghini builds cars that combine the pleasure of driving with a skilled understanding of modern technologies and engineering innovation. High-performance automotive manufacturers like Lamborghini produce a limited number of exclusive designs, and a reliable and highly cost-effective use of simulation is critical to their commercial success. Thanks to the flexibility offered by our MasterKey licensing system, such companies can meet their demands for constant innovation and faster product development cycles, as well as ensure high product quality.''

NEW DELHI: Iconic Italian sports car maker Lamborghini has big expectations from India and has identified it as a “big market for the future”. In India since 2006, the company is now working on expansion plans and is confident that the rapid economic growth and new-emerging billionaires would make India one of its strong markets in the coming years.
“India is a big market for the future for Lamborghini. It is a big country and the attitude of buyers is now changing and they are becoming more open to buying ultra luxury high-style brands like ours,” says Enrico Maffeo, global director of sales and customer service for Lamborghini, told TOI.
Lamorghini, famous for its raging bull logo, sells the Gallardo and the Murcielago sports cars in India that are also available in their various variants like the lightweight Gallardo Superleggera and the convertible Gallardo Spyder, all of which retail for a hefty Rs 3 crore-plus.
Maffeo, a regular visitor to India, said high price was not much of a deterrent for their target customers who choose a Lamborghini for its exquisite design, high-profile branding and uncompromising performance. The company, which currently retails in India through its only dealership Exclusive Motors of Delhi, hopes to sell ten of its famed cars here this year. “Our business is not that much about volume. It is more of brands and desirability. Our plan is to create brand awareness, and the sales will follow,” he said.
Maffeo said as the company expands in India, Lamborghini would also increase its distribution network here. “We plan to have a new dealership in Mumbai next year and follow it up with one in Hyderabad in 2010,” he said.
But just when it looks to expand and grow in India, it also faces competition from rival like Ferrari. Alarmingly, Ferrari may get assistance from domestic heavyweight Tata Motors, the joint venture partner of Ferrari owner Fiat, when it decides to come to India. Maffeo said any new brand had to go step-by-step in any market. “And don’t forget. We are part of the Volkswagon group that already has presence in India through brands like Volkswagon, Skoda, Audi and Bentley.”

The new centre was opened by Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, and Jean-Fleury Garel, CEO of Gazeley, one of Europe’s largest logistics property companies responsible for managing the project.

The new Logistics centre, with a surface of 11.000 square meters, is situated within the business zone and replaces the existing centre located in Anzola Emilia, about 20 kilometres away.

Characteristics of the new facility

The new facility, which stands 10 meters high with space for about 14,052 pallets, will be used both as a warehouse for car production and components and spare parts, as well as for Lamborghini’s merchandise range. Thanks to the height of the building and to innovative warehousing structures, storage capacity has been increased twofold, ensuring the accommodation of future business growth.

Operations at the centre are fully automated. Instant data transmission ensures the functionality of logistics integration processes while ensuring constant control of data flow, which reflect the manufacturer's high standards, procedural policies and service objectives. The new logistics centre is also characterized by a comfortable working environment, while controls and other features required to facilitate operations are simple and streamlined.

30/10/2008 Automobili Lamborghini establishes new branch in People´s Republic of China

As part of the strategy to further expand its global business activities, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. will found a branch in China. Following a recent decision by the Board of Management, the Italian luxury sportscar manufacturer will establish Automobili Lamborghini China in the country´s capital city Beijing and will start operations at the beginning of 2009.

Lamborghini´s rise to become one of the most successful and profitable super sportscar manufacturers is the result of a clear dual strategy. First, the creation of an incomparable new, broad and attractive product portfolio. Second and equally important, the ongoing expansion of brand representation to ensure substantial presence in all major markets of the world.

The President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., Stephan Winkelmann, points out the strategic rationale of the move: “China has the strongest dynamics of change to undoubtedly become the leading economy in the world. As one of the symbols of European luxury tradition, our products and our brand promise are irrevocably moving into the focus of a growing number of people. The development of wealth and the developing ‘savoir-vivre’ in China makes it one of the pivotal markets for Lamborghini’s future growth. The decision to establish a branch in China illustrates our dedication to opening the potential of this market for Lamborghini. Our new regional office will ensure the presence of the brand and further the prosperity of the corporation on a global scale.”

In 2008 Automobili Lamborghini expects a growth of car sales in China by 186% (28 cars in 2007 toward 80 in 2008). The market for luxury products is characterized by stable and solid growth and by a wide presence in practically all major economic metropolis throughout the country. At the time being, Automobili Lamborghini has three dealers located in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, one in Hong Kong, and another two will be shortly be opened in Chengdu and Qingdao. More are to be established.

Lamborghini is focused on establishing a roughly equal split of worldwide sales between the three major continental regions: Northern America, Europe and Asia

Stephan Winkelmann has appointed Eginardo Bertoli as Country Manager of Automobili Lamborghini China. Mr Bertoli will report directly to Enrico Maffeo, Director of Sales and Customer Service worldwide, who is based at the Lamborghini headquarters in Italy. Mr. Bertoli has a strong background in the automotive industry, having worked for a range of international companies such as Fiat Powertrain Technologies, Kongsberg Automotive and Interpump Group S.p.A.

Mr Bertoli’s career has included senior positions in Italy, the USA as well as China. During his three years’ assignment for Iveco Motors in Shanghai he gained substantial experience of the Chinese market. Zhang Xiaodong will be head of customer service China. He will manage all aftersales operations including warranty, parts and service, and will report to Eginardo Bertoli.

Lamborghini O.C., largest dealer of exotic cars, closes
Automaker blames poor management, not economy, for demise.
By JOHN GITTELSOHN
The Orange County Register

The world's largest Lamborghini dealer, Lamborghini Orange County, has closed and owners aren't saying why.

"I can't talk about anything," said Vik Keuylian, owner of the Santa Ana-based dealership.

Keuylian previously said he sold about 10 percent of all 2,400 Lamborghinis made in the world each year. Lamborghini announced plans to move its North American headquarters to Santa Monica, in part, to be close to its largest dealership.

Automobili Lamborghini America said the dealer closed because of its own mistakes, not the economy.

"The financial stress Lamborghini Orange County is experiencing is due to several unfortunate business decisions made by management at Lamborghini Orange County, independently of Automobili Lamborghini," said Pietro Frigerio, chief operating officer of Lamborghini America.

"Many companies have felt an impact by the current economic situation, but the economy is not the reason for Lamborghini Orange County's financial situation. Though, the economy has exacerbated the situation."

In an interview this spring, when other auto dealers were suffering from the economic downturn, Keuylian said he continued to prosper.

"This April was better than April '07,” Keuylian told the Register. “Other dealers are turning down cars and we’re picking them up and selling them at a profit.”

A spokeswoman for Volkswagen, which owns Lamborghini, would not answer a question about whether the company had pulled the line of credit Keuylian needed to keep cars on his showroom floor.

"While we don't comment about our business relationships with our dealerships, Volkswagen's credit business continues to remain strong," said Jill Bratina, a spokeswoman for Volkswagen Group of America.

At least nine Orange County auto dealers – selling Chevrolets, Chryslers, Dodges, Nissans, Saturns and other brands – have closed since January, brought down by sluggish sales and tight credit.

But Lamborghini Orange County is the most glamorous of the bunch. Customers included NBA stars Kobe Bryant and Dennis Rodman. The Keuylians threw promotional parties with celebrities such as Elton John and Sharon Stone. They helicoptered actors Eric Roberts and Luke Perry from Los Angeles to Orange County for a company party in April.

The Orange County dealership at 2441 S. Pullman St. in Santa Ana is now padlocked. The lot previously brimming with orange and lime 12-cylinder, $600,000 Murcielagos and Gallardos customized by designer Versace – is vacant.

No sign explains the closure or tells customers where to go for repairs or how to pick up cars on order.

The answering machine on a phone at Lamborghini Calabasas, also owned by Keuylian, said it was not accepting messages. A recently opened Lamborghini showroom on West Coast Highway in Newport Beach also has closed. And Keuylian's plans for a lavish new showroom there never materialized.

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 21st November 2008 - The Collezione Automobili Lamborghini offers more than exclusive fashions and accessories – in every piece of this distinctive collection is the spirit of the world’s most desirable super sports car. The new Lamborghini online store (www.lamborghinistore.com (http://www.lamborghinistore.com)) brings this unique shopping experience to your home. Furthermore, the Collezione Automobili Lamborghini has been expanded with three new fashion lines for winter 2008/2009.
The Lamborghini brand offers extreme and uncompromising experiences – for a life outside of the conventional boundaries, that goes far beyond the super sports cars and their engines. Every single piece of the Collezione Automobili Lamborghini is also part of a world of exclusivity and glamour. With its sporty chic, this distinctive collection of fashion and accessories embodies the spirit of the brand; it is extreme, uncompromising and, above all, unmistakably Italian.
The pieces are very clearly “born in Sant’Agata Bolognese” and offer fashion highlights for every age group – the only thing that matters is the passion for the “bull”. The individual pieces are designed and produced in co-operation with some of Italy’s top fashion houses and to the very highest standards.
All-new design for online store
The articles from the collection – which include i.e. polo shirts, sweatshirts, trousers, jackets and accessories for him and her, ranging in price from two to 2,000 Euro – can be selected and purchased in the boutique at Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, in selected boutiques worldwide or at any Lamborghini dealership.
The online store www.lamborghinistore.com (http://www.lamborghinistore.com) has been completely redesigned. It provides an exceptionally convenient shopping experience from anywhere, and at any time. In co-operation with the best shipping services, the online store also ensures speedy delivery – worldwide, with virtually no exceptions.
Three new fashion lines complete the collection
The range has been expanded by three new lines for the 2008/2009 winter season. The Linea Tricolore emphasizes the brand’s “Italianità”, with its design inspired by modern military aeronautics – just like the design of the current super sports car.
The Linea Lambo Soul Vintage expresses a modern interpretation of styles from the 60s and 70s – the era that witnessed the birth and development of the Lamborghini brand. Cool colours, large logos and carefully selected contrasts lend particular appeal to this line. And lastly, the co-operation with the Hydrogen label has been expanded, with the elements of the third line inspired by college style.

Lamborghini working on pair of two-wheel-drive cars

The Estoque Concept that revealed Lamborghini's styling brilliance isn't reserved for two-door vehicles was preceded by much talk of a possible SV - superveloce - variant of the Murcielago. Part of the rumor of that car was that it would be two-wheel drive, rather than the standard Lamborghini AWD. A new report has emerged that lends credence to that idea even while it re-casts it in a new light.

The first of the cars to get the two-wheel-drive treatment, due in late 2009, will be the Gallardo, however, reports AutoTelegraaf after a talk with Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann. Dubbed the LP560-2, the new car will also bear the title 'Superleggera', Italian for 'superlight'. The superleggera version of the previous-generation Gallardo made do with AWD, however, so the new car should be even lighter. Shedding the front drive axles and differential therefore isn't about cost-cutting, but about weight savings, and the same ethos will be applied to the Murcielago that will follow.

The Murcielago will also feature the new naming convention, sporting an LP640-2 model number. Though the SV nameplate hasn't yet been pegged to the new Murcielago, it's an obvious possibility. Rumors that an SV-badged Murci may appear, at least in concept form, at the Geneva Motor Show in March would fit with a timeline for release later in 2009. The SV is also expected to lose as much as 220lb (100kg) compared to the standard car, and could possibly be RWD-only.

The next-generation Murcielago, already spotted in testing, isn't due until 2011, so the update to the aging car could help buoy sales in the interim.

Automobili Lamborghini foresees another record year of results in 2008 and is
not abandoning its long-term plans in spite of the bleak economic environment.
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 22nd December 2008 - Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. will
deliver another record year’s results in 2008. Official sales figures will be
communicated on the occasion of Lamborghini´s appearance at the Detroit Motor
Show in January 2009.
Even as a low volume luxury car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini is not
unaffected by the present downturn in economic activities in the wake of the
global financial crisis. However, the company is in a favourable strategic position
due to its identity as a luxury brand of longstanding tradition. One of its core brand
values is exclusivity, which is maintained through tight management of volumes
and a strict policy of maintaining a strong forward order bank. This exclusivity is of
essential relevance to both dealers and customers and is pivotal for the appeal of
the brand.
Lamborghini has the most attractive product line-up in the company´s 45 year
history. With at least one new product launched every year, and the continued
development of the dealer network to maximise market penetration, Automobili
Lamborghini has produced a year on year record performance in terms of
turnover, profit and volumes for the last four years, together with a rare double
digit profit margin. The company´s development marks one of the most respected
company turn-around programmes in the automotive and luxury industries.
Long before 2009, the company took decisive steps to address potential market
volatility. Production flexibility is made possible by cooperative concepts
developed with the union representatives. Besides flexible working hours, it
provides the opportunity to create training and qualification programmes during
work hours. There will be no layoffs, but an extension of the Christmas holiday for
eight days has been confirmed.
Lamborghini will not divert from its long-term strategy. Investment into R&D will
not be reduced, and there will be ongoing expansion of its brand presence on a
world-wide scale, with more new products and further expansion of its dealer
network. The company will continue its strategy of announcing at least one new
product each year. The latest examples of this are the new Lamborghini Gallardo
LP 560-4 Coupe for which deliveries commenced summer 2008, and the Gallardo
LP 560-4 Spyder unveiled in November 2008 with market launch in spring 2009.
Lamborghini continues its stated objectives of becoming the most profitable
supersportscar manufacturer, the most attractive employer and the most
attractive brand in its market.

"There has been work performed by a sub-standard shop in the industry who was installing upgrades on Lamborghini's primarily in the New York - Tri-State Area.

FOREST HILL EXOTIC PERFORMANCE, owned by Ron & Chris Brown, were well known for upgrades to Lamborghini's and other Exotics in the tri-state area for years. More recently it has surfaced that they acted in a very unorthodox manner including scamming and defrauding customers. They are currently under investigation both on a County and Federal level.

Well today as I walked into work I was confronted by the 2 Lambo techs who walked me in the shop to show me a 2008 Lamborghini Superleggera previously owned by Ricky Henner. All I have to say is WOW ! Ricky, thankfully you and your wife are safe! Another BUTCHER job by Forest Hill Exotic Performance.

The vehicle was being moved and the brake pedal went to the floor, it seems that the factory washers that are used when the brake line is attached to caliper was gone. As a result the brake fluid leaked and destroyed the paint on the back of the caliper and soaked the undercarriage. Furthermore the paint used is the wrong paint and by no means can withstand the heat that is generated by a braking system.

Our service department had to remove all the calipers and grind down the paint in the fitting and then use new washers and re-attach the brake lines, bleed and fill the system.

ANYONE who has had this service performed by FOREST HILL EXOTIC PERFORMANCE needs to have this fixed immediately!!!

It is an EXTREMELY dangerous and potentially fatal problem.

If anyone knows Boris - Hovik, I know you do, call him immediately and have him get that fixed, if anyone knows of anyone else with aftermarket painted calipers by this shop - call them - YOU JUST MAY SAVE THEIR LIVES!"

Lamborghini presents highly individualized super sports cars
at the Detroit Auto Show
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Detroit, 11th January 2009 - Alongside the new Gallardo LP
560-4 Spyder, Lamborghini will present two exclusive, highly individualized super
sports cars at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. With a unique, matt-luster paint finish in
matt blue and all available special equipment options, this Murciélago LP 640 and
Gallardo LP 560-4 demonstrate the virtually limitless possibilities and expert
craftsmanship presented through the Ad Personam individualization program by the
specialists in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
.
“Ad Personam offers every Lamborghini customer the opportunity to acquire a
completely exclusive vehicle from a unique brand – one that is perfectly in tune with
their own lifestyle,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili
Lamborghini. “A super sports car from Lamborghini is always a fundamental
expression of the buyer’s personality. And that is why the highest levels of
exclusivity are possible, right through to absolute one-of-a-kind Lamborghini
vehicles.”
“Think the impossible” is the motto of the Lamborghini individualization program.
Ad Personam offers a host of possibilities to bring a highly individual style to the
exterior and the interior of a Lamborghini – all the way through to a Lamborghini
like no other.
A unique color for a unique design
Both super sports cars presented in Detroit are such highly individualized examples–
painted in matt blue, an all-new, powerful blue tone with a matt-luster finish.
Dressed like this, the Murciélago and the Gallardo are elegant and refined, yet
extremely powerful and dynamic. This is a unique color that fits perfectly to the
unique design of a Lamborghini.
The super sports car brand from Sant’Agata Bolognese is the only auto maker to
have mastered the difficult and complex craftsmanship required to work with the
matt-luster paint finish. Alongside the new matt blue three more colors are
permanently available in the Ad Personam program: Nero Nemesis is a matt-luster
black, while the matt white is called Bianco Canopus; and Marrone Apus refers to
the particularly elegant matt brown finish. In addition, Lamborghini Ad Personam
offers its customers complete freedom to choose any color imaginable.
Luxuriously sporty or classically powerful
In their interiors, too, the highly individualized super sports cars presented in Detroit
provide a clear example of the possibilities offered by the Ad Personam program. The
base color applied to the upholstery of both vehicles is black, with color contrast
supplied by fine diamond stitching in the blue of the exterior paintwork. This is
applied to the seats, door trim, headliner and the steering wheel. The leather
upholstery lends a luxuriously sporty look and feel to the Gallardo LP 560-4.
Furthermore, the Gallardo LP560-4 shows the finest in Nappa leather in color Nero
Perseus which clads not only the seats, cockpit and door trim, but also the pillars and
headliners. Further accents are provided courtesy of individual elements crafted in
carbon fiber. The Callisto wheels are painted in high-gloss black, providing a contrast
to the matt blue paint finish.
The Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640 is one of the most fascinating super sports cars
of all time, and underscores this in Detroit with a purist interior finished in Alcantara
® with diamond stitching. Not only are the sports seats upholstered in Alcantara ®,
but also the entire interior, including doors and headliner. The cockpit surround is
finished in carbon fiber. The steering wheel features stitched suede and carbon fiber
inlays. The high-gloss black of the Murciélago’s wheels – in Hermera design – also
delivers the perfect contrast to the matt blue exterior paintwork.
An inexhaustible range
Ad Personam offers an inexhaustible range possibilities for bringing a completely
unique style to the interior and exterior of every Lamborghini. The color and trim
designers from Sant’Agata Bolognese have also created exceptionally exclusive
equipment offerings for the entire product range. The extended leather finish, for
example, enables the allure of the first-class natural product to be raised even
further. Only the very finest quality leathers are used. The seats alone offer infinite
possibilities through a vast range of color options for leather and Alcantara ®, twotone
contrasts, material mixes, stitching and piping in contrasting colors, as well as
the diamond-stitched pattern of the seat squabs, known as Q-citura.
The exceptionally hi-tech carbon fiber material provides a hint of the racetrack, with
elements such as the control panel for the air conditioning and the hand brake
boasting a carbon fiber finish. Further finishing touches for personalizing the exterior
include an extended range of wheel options and brake calipers in yellow and silver.
Within applicable vehicles, Lamborghini can comply with virtually any customer’s
desire in vehicle individualization. The boundaries are set, however, by Lamborghini’s
own quality demands, which apply to all modifications carried out. When a new
Lamborghini exactly meets personal expectations in terms of colors, materials and
trim, then aesthetic perfection has been achieved.

- Strong growth in Middle Eastern and major Asian Markets
- Strongest growth in China
- European Sales stable with growth in Italy and France
- No abandoning of long-term strategic and product plans
In spite of worldwide financial and economic turmoil, Automobili Lamborghini
S.p.A. has delivered another historically very strong year in 2008. The Italian
luxury sportscar manufacturer increased unit sales from 2406 to 2430. This
means a growth of 1%.
Weaknesses in major traditional markets where more than offset by growth in
other markets as well as in new and emerging markets.
The US market saw a decrease of 20.3% with 741 units sold instead of 930 the
year before. The US share of worldwide sales decreased from 38.7 to 30.5%. In
Europe, sales remained stable. While traditional markets like Germany and the UK
showed relatively small single digit decreases, sales in the Italian homeland of the
brand of longstanding tradition increased by 10% to 230 units sold. This sales
growth pushed Italy into the position of second largest market in the world. Good
performances were also recorded in France, which showed growth rates of 27%.
The strongest growth rates were achieved in the Middle Eastern and Far Eastern
Asian core markets. The Middle Eastern region achieved a sales increase of 66%
from 100 to 166 units sold. In the Far East, China more than doubled its sales
from 28 to 72 units sold with an increase of 157%. Additionally, Hong Kong and
South Korea showed high triple digit growth rates of 120 and more than 100%.
The worldwide share of the Middle Eastern and Far Asian sales increased from
15.0 to 21.8%.
“In the light of worldwide economic insecurities and sluggish car markets, this
new record year above all proves the sustainability of our business strategy. We
know that there are tough times ahead now, but we have increased the value and
attractiveness of our luxury brand in so many facets that we are ready to take on
whatever challenges the future might bring us”, said Lamborghini President and
CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
With the youngest and most attractive product line-up in the company’s 46-year
old history, with one new model launched every year, with the consistent
expansion into new markets of the highest potential like the Middle East and Asia,
Automobili Lamborghini has managed to show a strong above-market growth
rate in recent years.
The company’s development marks one of the most respected turn-around
projects in the automotive and luxury industries. Amongst other factors like a
very positive brand image development the workforce has strongly increased in
only four years.
Long before approaching 2009, the company has taken decisive steps to be well
prepared for volatility in demand. Production flexibility is made possible by
cooperative concepts developed with the union representatives. Besides flexible
working hours, it is agreed to also encompass the option to change work time
into training and qualification projects.
Lamborghini does not abandon its long-term strategy. Investment into R&D will
not be reduced, as there will be ongoing expansion of the brand presence on a
worldwide scale. The company sticks to its development of one new model each
year. The latest example of this confidence is the announcement of the new
Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP 560-4. Lamborghini is confident to become the
most profitable luxury sportscar manufacturer, the most attractive employer in
its segment.

Ah... Even Lamborghini can't stave off the Malaise. At least they saw a huge profit last year. So I should think it's in a good shape. At least it'll be fine and dandy in the Middle Eastern markets?

So I should think it's in a good shape. At least it'll be fine and dandy in the Middle Eastern markets?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. At all.
The middle east is just a few quarters behind the curve, with big spending being dramatically curtailed. Surely not an environment conducive to increased car sales.

Found this really interesting:

Want the chance to drive a Lamborghini or improve your driving skills in the ultimate super sports car?
Automobili Lamborghini announces Lamborghini Academy programme for 2009
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 20.02.2009 - Lamborghini has announced its new
Lamborghini Academy dates for 2009. With courses open to all sports car
enthusiasts as well as Lamborghini owners, the track driving schools provide an
extraordinary opportunity to experience the full potential of Lamborghini cars,
alongside the Italian super sports car manufacturer’s professional instructors.
The Track Academy course provides an entry into the Lamborghini Academy
world. Held at various European race tracks from Spring 2009 onwards,
participants’ driving skills are improved alongside a professional driver instructor,
while exploring the full potential of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4.
The Advanced Academy is the top level programme, and concentrates on optimum
control and performance on the race track, fully supported by a professional invehicle
telemetry system. Driving is undertaken in the Gallardo LP 560-4 and the
Murciélago LP 640: the fastest and most extreme super sports car in its class.
All classes include technical and safety briefings, followed by handling and
performance exercises, with instruction on how to get the ‘ultimate kick’ from race
track driving! Participants improve their handling and feel of Lamborghini’s
permanent four-wheel drive cars, learn to manage understeer and oversteer;
practice manoeuvres with and without ABS and ESP; master ‘controlled drifting’
and, of course, find the ideal ‘racing line’ on track.
As a reminiscence of this experience each individual participant gets his own incar-
video with footage of the whole driving day as well as a photo CD of all the
action of the day on the race track.
Lamborghini Academy courses start from 3,900.00 euro, including accommodation,
cars at the race track and all driving instruction, but excluding travel. For full details,

- Total turnover increased in challenging economic conditions to
Euro 478,8 Mio. (+2,5%)
- Profits rise to Euro 60 Mio. (+27,4%)
- Sales up: 2430 units sold worldwide (+1%)
- Strong growth in Middle Eastern and major Asian markets,
strongest growth in China
- Maintenance of long-term strategy and investments
Sant‘ Agata Bolognese (Italy), April 15th, 2009. In spite of world-wide financial
and economic turmoil, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. delivered another
successful year in 2008. In all key business indicators such as deliveries and
profits, the Italian luxury sportscar manufacturer exceeded the already
remarkable previous year.
Turnover increased from Euro 467,1 Mio. to Euro 478,8 Mio in 2008 (+2,5%).
Pretax profits rose from Euro 47,1 Mio. to Euro 60,0 Mio, marking an
exponential increase of 27,4%. The profit margin increased from 10,1% to 12,5%.
The brand with the raging bull logo improved sales from 2406 to 2430 units.
Commenting on the results, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini,
Stephan Winkelmann, said: “With this new record in deliveries and profits we
have marked the most successful fiscal year in the history of our company. The
worldwide economic climate, especially regarding luxury markets, has changed
dramatically. However, Lamborghini’s stronghold in global presence and brand
appeal will enable us to steer Lamborghini through challenging times.”
On the sales side, weaknesses in major traditional regions were offset by growth
in other areas as well as in new and emerging markets. The US market saw a
decrease of 20,3% with 741 units sold compared to the 930 sold the year before.
The US share of world-wide sales decreased from 38,7% to 30,5%.
n Europe, sales remained stable. While traditional markets such as Germany
and the UK showed relatively small single digit decreases, sales in the Italian
brand’s homeland increased from 209 to 230 units (+10%). This sales growth
pushed Italy into the position of second largest world market.
Strong growth rates were achieved in the Middle East and Far East Asian core
markets. The Middle Eastern region – particularly the United Arab Emirates –
achieved a sales increase of 66% from 100 to 166 units sold. In the Far East,
China more than doubled its sales from 28 to 72 units sold. The Middle East and
Far East regions grew their contribution to Lamborghini’s total worldwide sales
from 15% to 21,8%.
The 2008 success in deliveries and profits was due to the consistent expansion
of brand presence and dealerships worldwide. More than that, the marque has
the most attractive model line-up ever, augmented by the launch of the
Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé. Increasing brand and product
awareness as well as the innate and rising brand value are also key factors in
the company’s success.
The company´s development marks one of the most respected company
turn-around programmes in the automotive and luxury industries.
“In the light of world-wide economic uncertainties, this new record year above
all proves the sustainability of our business strategy. We know that there are
tough times ahead now, but we have increased the value and appeal of our
luxury brand and we are ready to take on the challenges the future might bring
us. We are confident we will come out of this challenge stronger than we went
into it,” said Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
Outlook for 2009
Even as a low volume luxury car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini is not
unaffected by the present economic downturn in the wake of the global
financial crisis.
The goal is to lead the company through the difficult phase safely by applying
the strictest discipline to managing investments and current costs,
systematically adjusting production to reflect market developments.
Before approaching 2009, the company took decisive steps to be well prepared
for volatility in demand.
Production flexibility is made possible by working within contractual
agreements and with the full support of the trade unions. The company has also
enhanced and improved its professional training and qualifying courses
The company has announced short-time work for 300 of its 1000 employees in
some weeks from February to May and does not rule out making further use of
this tool.
Lamborghini remains with its long-term strategy. Investment into R&D will
continue. The company sticks to its commitment of announcing at least one
new product each year. The latest examples of this confidence are the launch of
the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder and the Murciélago LP 670-4
Superveloce. The new Spyder is the convertible version of the record-selling
Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé and is now being launched in all markets. The
Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, recently presented at the last Geneva
motorshow, has already commanded a promising order bank and will first
reach markets in the next weeks.
In the current 2009 year, Automobili Lamborghini is not in a position to make a
full year forecast, but the overall target for the 2009 financial year is to attain
an overall profit.

Automobili Lamborghini confirms commitment to China, with Shanghai motor show and new showroom opening in Chengdu.
Shanghai/Sant’Agata Bolognese 20th April 2009 – Automobili Lamborghini launched
its new Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce to the Chinese market today at Shanghai
motor show. The Italian marque’s Shanghai motor show presence follows the official
opening on Friday 17 April of Lamborghini’s fourth showroom in China.
“China becomes an always more important market for Lamborghini, even in light of
a challenging worldwide economic situation that affects everybody,” said
Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “China is one of the largest
potential markets for our company: Lamborghini and its dealer partners benefit
from an established and respected luxury brand, in this region as in our other
markets, and we continue to invest in our customers and the marque’s future via
appropriate strategic growth.”
The new Chengdu showroom in Sichuan Province has been opened by Chengdu
Sanhe Enterprise Group Co. Ltd at its extensive Sanhe Group premises on the
Singapore Industrial Park. “For Chengdu as well as for Sanhe Group this investment
creates a significant automotive development, and we are delighted to represent
this fascinating brand,” said Sanhe Group Chairman Zongmin Huang.
“Our development strategy within China has been consistent, including the
establishment of Automobili Lamborghini China in 2008,” confirms Stephan
Winkelmann. “As part of our plan to enlarge our dealer network coverage, the
Chengdu opening represents a pivotal step and, similarly, we consider the Shanghai
show an opportunity to show new Lamborghini models to one of our most
significant potential markets. “
In 2008 Automobili Lamborghini delivered 72 cars in mainland China compared to
28 units in 2007, with a growth rate of 157%. Automobili Lamborghini currently has
four operating dealers in mainland China, located in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou
and Chengdu, and one is also operating in Hong Kong. Three other dealers will be
opened in 2009: one in Hangzhou, one in Xiamen and one in Shenzhen.

LAMBORGHINI ANNOUNCES NEW, AMBITIOUS PROGRAMS
FOR REDUCING CO2
• 35 million Euros investments
• The construction of a large photovoltaic plant, combined with an energysaving
project, will achieve a 30% reduction in the factory’s CO2
emissions by 2010
• Modifications to vehicles will result in a 35% reduction in CO2
emissions by 2015
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 7 June 2009 – Automobili Lamborghini announces its
intention to complete its program of environmental sustainability in record time by
presenting new plans which will enable the company:
• to achieve a 30% reduction, by the year 2010, in the CO2 emissions produced
by its factory
• to achieve a 35% reduction, by the year 2015, in the CO2 emissions
produced by its vehicles
The plans for reducing emissions will thus involve two areas: modifications to the
Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and development in vehicle design.
To redefine its industrial processes in accordance with its policy of environmental
sustainability, Lamborghini has just begun a project to complete installation of a large
photovoltaic system by the end of 2009.
The roof-top plant will produce 1,582 Megawatt hour (MWh) of "green" energy per
year, which translates into a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions (-
1,067,820 Kg/year) by 2010.
The photovoltaic systems will have a total installed power rating of
1,4 Megawatts and will extend over 17,000 m2 throughout the entire industrial area.
The new system will be built by Sinergia Sistemi S.p.A.
At the same time, an equally important energy conservation project involving
insulating the production facility’s whole roof, improving lighting and heating and
introducing destratification systems for heated air will be completed, thus resulting in
a 10% energy usage reduction by 2010.
These projects represent the next step in a program that began last year with the
opening of the new Lamborghini
Logistics Center. The Center has already contributed to diminishing the impact
caused by heavy truck traffic on the roads between Anzola and Sant’Agata Bolognese.
It is calculated that this facility has achieved a reduction of emissions by over 75 kg
per annum, and nitrogen oxide by over 750 kg (Sources: Standard Euro 3).
In April 2009 Lamborghini obtained the UNI EN ISO 14001 certificate, meeting
the international environmental standards. It is also the first firm in the Italian
automotive sector to be close to registering for the EMAS environment certificate,
having successfully completed the program: EMAS regulations are set by the
European Union to support organisations in their effort to evaluate and improve
their own environmental efficiency.
These recent achievements support Lamborghini’s commitment to protecting the
environment in which it operates, and its desire to make all stakeholders aware of
its actions in a transparent manner.
With regard to Lamborghini vehicles, the CO2 reduction plan aims for an additional
35% decrease in emissions by the year 2015.
The program reached its first milestone with the Gallardo LP 560-4. Introduced
last year, the new car’s technical advancements resulted in an 18% reduction in CO2
emissions.
At this point, Research & Development activities will continue in the following
directions:
- decreasing vehicle mass
- improving combustion
- reducing friction
- Start-and-Stop systems
- hybrid drive train solutions
- biofuels
Lamborghini’s commitment and its sense of social responsibility regarding the
environment is evidenced by the numbers and by the sheer size of the investments
that are planned. 35 million Euros will be appropriated over the next five years for
this purpose.
Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Lamborghini, has said, "Despite
the difficult situation in today's global economy, Lamborghini is committed to its
policy of environmental management, since we are well aware of the great
opportunities that derive from it. We have an objective to reduce CO2 emissions to
the greatest possible degree. We have also set compulsory annual goals that are part
of an integrated approach both considering the automobile as an element which is
more considerate of the environment, in terms of emissions and the use of
resources, to the accomplishment of a series of corresponding measures such as
modifications to our factory. This is an important action for Lamborghini and a
central opportunity for our long term corporate and product development.”
European Parliamentarian Guido Sacconi, President of the European Commission
on Climate Change, recently paid a visit to Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata.
At that time, he said that, "The commitment shown by Lamborghini with its efforts
to reduce environmental impact and develop vehicles with less polluting
technologies confirm the company's goal of following the right path toward
complying with the directives of the European Union. To safeguard the DNA,
history and technology of niche car manufacturers on a European level, a series of
exceptions have been passed for manufactures of 'specialty' vehicles (with fewer
than 10,000 new cars made per year) who run their own production facilities and
design centres, even though they are part of a group of associated producers. This is
the exact situation in which Lamborghini finds itself. We have been particularly
satisfied with the actions it has taken thus far, because they illustrate this company's
desire to embrace a new industrial vision which combines competitiveness and
performance with social responsibility.”
Partner companies:
Located in Casalecchio di Reno, Sinergia Sistemi S.p.A. is a leader on the Italian
market of services that help companies save energy. The company specializes in
energy certification of buildings and the construction of large systems that take
advantage of renewable energy sources. Sinergia Sistemi also acts as an E.S.Co.
(Energy Service Company) that finances the plant systems and energy
requalification projects it offers to its customers, in a relationship of total Energy
Management.
The finalized project was built from a design based on a preliminary study carried
out by the CENER National Center for Renewable Forms of Energy of Spain. This
study involved a broad evaluation of the feasibility and size of the project.

31/07/2009 Automobili Lamborghini maintains profitability and sustains strategic product and technological investments

- Profit before tax reaches 5.4 Million Euros
- First half financial year 2009: worldwide deliveries decrease by 37%
- Italy resists weakness of other key European Markets
- China with growing sales
- Maintenance of long-term strategy and investments

After several consecutive record years, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. reports a decrease in worldwide sales for the first six months of the financial year 2009 (which ends 31/12/2009). In spite of the massive economic downturn in Lamborghini´s major markets the company is still among the few car companies maintaining overall profitability.

In the first six months of 2009, turnover reached 156.9 Million Euros, with a decrease of 43.4% compared to the same period of 2008 (277.4 Million Euros). Pre-tax profit was 5.4 Million Euros in comparison to 35.0 Million Euros in the first six months of 2008.

In terms of sales, the company delivered 825 cars: a reduction of 37% compared to the same period of 2008 with sales of 1.309 cars.

As expected, the markets showing the sharpest decline are those economies worst hit by the deep worldwide recession. Consequently, Lamborghini sales volumes saw the most substantial downturn in the USA, falling by 52% from 431 to 207 units sold.

Some markets’ sales figures however, counteract the trend. In Europe, the second largest market, Italy, accounted for 122 units, nearly on a par with the first six months’ performance of 2008 when 130 Lamborghini cars were sold.

Switzerland maintained stability with 49 units sold, compared with 51 units in 2008. The same holds true for France with 37 units sold (43 in the first half of 2008).

Beyond Europe, there are clear signs of sales stability in the Middle East, which presently is the fourth largest market in the world for Lamborghini (61 units sold against 79 in the first half of 2008) and in China, which has achieved a sales growth of 32% (29 units sold in the first half of 2009 against 22 in the first six months of 2008).

Some major European markets showed decreases: Germany down 52.0%, and the UK down 46.6%.

The President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, commented, “As was expected, we are not immune to the global recession. However, I am certain that Lamborghini’s strong global presence and brand appeal, which remains unaffected, will enable us to steer the company through challenging times to achieve new strengths. Our business strategy continues to be driven by two fundamental principles that allow us to react to the present economic situation and preserve the success of our brand. Firstly, we will maintain the profitability of the company, a target confirmed by the results of the first six months of 2009. Secondly we continue our investment into the future with product technology and innovation alongside a firm ecological stance.”

Lamborghini remains with its long-term strategy, with a commitment to announcing at least one new product each year.

The latest examples of this confidence are the launch of the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder, the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, and the new Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni: the first rear wheel drive Gallardo, celebrating the famous Lamborghini test driver, Valentino Balboni.

Investments into R&D and into reduction of CO2 emissions will continue as planned, resulting in continuing technology and product innovation. The company has recently announced its intention to complete its program of environmental sustainability in record time by presenting new plans which will enable Lamborghini to:

- achieve a 30% reduction, by the year 2010, in the CO2 emissions produced by its factory
- achieve a 35% reduction, by the year 2015, in the CO2 emissions produced by its vehicles

Lamborghini will commit 35 million Euros over the next five years for this purpose.

For the full year 2009, the company is not giving a definitive business forecast due to continuing market instabilities. However, Lamborghini is confident of also attaining a full year profit, thus remaining one of the few profitable companies in the industry.

TAG Heuer’s MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini Revs-Up the Ante for Luxury
Communication Instruments
Inspired by the power and grace of the mythic Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640, TAG Heuer,
the world leader in luxury sports watches and chronographs, has teamed up with the famous
Italian super sports car manufacturer to create the limited-edition MERIDIIST Automobili
Lamborghini communication instrument.
The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini is hand-assembled and composed of more than 400
mechanical components, many derived from legendary TAG Heuer chronographs. Like the
supercar, it handles beautifully, with such distinctive features as a dual-time display for
discreet at-a-glance time monitoring and the TAG Heuer dual-function control switch to track
incoming calls.
In tribute to the year Automobili Lamborghini was founded, only 1963 pieces of this finelytuned
device will be sold worldwide.
“Relentless in its pursuit of performance, TAG Heuer has revolutionized first timekeeping and
now mobile communication by finding technological inspiration in professional motor sports
and Grand Tourism cars,” said Steve Amstutz, General Manager for TAG Heuer
Communication Instruments. “In partnering with Automobili Lamborghini, TAG Heuer
reinforces its automotive legacy with the most extreme supersportscar of all.”
Housed in black titanium carbide coated 316L stainless steel, the razor-sharp design of the
MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini references the super sports car down to its famed
signature on the battery cover – the same as on the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640’s V12
engine block. The back of the device is engraved with its limited edition number while the
minimalist black keyboard is customized with Automobili Lamborghini’s trademark Taurus
bull on the steel central button.
The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini is luxuriously crafted and detailed, marrying the most
prestigious materials and advanced components in the watchmaking and automotive worlds.
The display is made from 60.5 carats scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, combining
exceptional light transmission with great stability in all thermodynamic conditions. Its battery
life is unrivalled and offers a seven hours talk time or 28 days standby power.
Requiring three years of intense research and development, 700 prototypes, and the
punishing quality control testing for which TAG Heuer and Lamborghini are famous, the
MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini is an extraordinary communication device of bespoke
digital engineering. It’s hot-wired with sound processes and chamber design fine-tuned for
crystal clear acoustics. Special software enables customized Automobili Lamborghini screen
animation and wallpaper. The ultra-sensitive antenna – twice as efficient as other radio
standard-compliant products – ensures the MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini’s unbeatable
connectivity where all other communication instruments fail.
"The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini epitomizes TAG Heuer consistency in
inspiring and framing its diversification, combining technology and design, and
partnering with the best sports car Brands and engineers to come up with unique
Masterpieces in all three fields we compete. We are very proud of this new
partnership with such a great Brand as Lamborghini" added Jean-Christophe Babin,
President & CEO of the TAG Heuer Group.
TAG Heuer and Automobili Lamborghini: A Shared Passion for Precision and
Performance
The master of time to a formidable 1/10,000th of a second, TAG Heuer has merged
timekeeping and motor-racing in a number of award-winning timepieces: From the
original Monaco, the watch made famous by Steve McQueen in the 1970 race film
classic “Le Mans,” to its groundbreaking new offspring, the just-launched Monaco
V4 with its double-patented belt-driven movement inspired by the V-shaped
cylinders in a high-end motor racing engine.
Since 1963, Lamborghini has been the purest, most muscular expression of
performance. Engineered for explosive power and spectacular speed and beauty,
the super sports car is the singular vision of an Italian industrialist, Ferruccio
Lamborghini. A true “gentleman driver” and long-time lover of the Gran Turismo
automobile, Lamborghini was unsatisfied with every other car on the road.
Therefore, he and his successors defied convention, creating the ultimate ride – one
that is unlike any other car on the road.
“The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini is the culmination of the high-performance,
design-demanding and perfection-driven ethos that TAG Heuer and Automobili
Lamborghini share,” noted Amstutz. “A communication instrument of
uncompromised calibre and capabilities, it seriously upgrades the way the world
connects.”
The TAG Heuer MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini will be available in November at
select retailers in watch and jewellery network, and select Automobili Lamborghini
retailers.

Automobili Lamborghini celebrates production record with ten thousand Gallardo models
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 24th June 2010 - Automobili Lamborghini has achieved a new production record in 2010, with Gallardo number 10,000 rolling off the production line at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
The V10 Lamborghini Gallardo, with its permanent four-wheel drive, has become the most successful Lamborghini model of all time. Starting with the original Gallardo Coupé launched in 2003, the model range was extended with Spyder and Superleggera models as well as special editions such as the Gallardo SE and Nera.
The current Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé was launched in 2007 with increased power denoted by its ‘560’ badge, and permanent four-wheel drive signified by the ‘4’. The same enhanced performance and technical modifications characterize the LP 560-4 Spyder, which was announced in 2008.
The limited edition two-wheel drive LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni was revealed in 2009 and at the most recent worldwide premiere at Geneva Auto Salon this year Lamborghini presented the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera: a lightweight version of the already lean Gallardo LP 560-4, with a top speed of 325 km/h and acceleration from 0-100 km/h of 3.4 seconds.
All clients are able to take advantage of the Ad Personam programme, which allows owners to customise further their Lamborghini car to create a unique super sports car.
“Production of car number 10,000 is a very important milestone for Lamborghini,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The Lamborghini brand is extreme, uncompromising and Italian, and the Lamborghini Gallardo has played an exemplary role in defining and delivering our brand reputation into our worldwide markets. Today Lamborghini is represented in 45 countries by over 120 dealers, with the strength and presence of the Gallardo product playing a significant role in the growth and recognition of our brand.”
The Lamborghini Gallardo has won numerous international awards for its dynamic performance, design and brand integrity, from media, international automotive groups and design councils. The Lamborghini Gallardo has been famously featured in music videos and films, and its client list features numerous celebrities, sports stars and VIPs.
A couple of Gallardo have been donated to the Italian state police, and a race version of the Gallardo LP 560-4 features in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo: the one-make race series running in Europe, launched by Automobili Lamborghini in 2009.
The achieved record with the Gallardo number 10,000, in yellow “Midas” and destined for China, will be celebrated also during the ‘Lamborghini Day’ in Shanghai, 25th June, before being delivered to its owner. In the first event of its kind in China, Lamborghini will showcase eight cars from its super sports car range.
