i am not very good in understanding german but as i understood they used 90% new parts for building it almost from scratch, that had to be very expensive to buy all original parts but was worth it :P

some kliff notes from the movie clip

- BMW is able to supply 90% of all the parts. especially the parts that are important to pass the german TUV, so you can drive the car on the street
- BMW wanted to prove that it can supply the parts even for such old models
- the car took ~9 months to build
- the idea to build it started off as a joke, then they wanted to do it
- the color was chosen because it just fit nicely into the time preiod when the 2002 was built
- BMW can rebuild body panels for customers
