Germany-Argentina ----> Argentina
Italy-Ukraine ----> Italy (sorry Alex :mrgreen: )
Brazil-France ----> Brazil
England-Portugal. ----> the most difficult choice.... England, not because they have the best team, but Portugal will not have 3 players
Those predictions look good to me. Like everyone said Germany v. Argentina should be a great game. England v. Portugal is a tough one though, England really hasnt played all that well IMO they seem to get by on a luck goal here and there.

I have to say I wanted France to win.
My good mate (hes from Asturias Spain) has been real dick to me and Ukraine so I got pissed last night and was praying for Ukraine to win, besides the fact that I read some really "low blow" poor press (Spanish press) on the Ukrainian team for the Swiss match.
You have the weirdest reasons to root for a team or not.

saw only some glimpses of the Argentina-Germany match. Wasn't that entertaining and I again say it: don't have extra time!!! go directly to the penalty shots!!!
also Italy won a somewhat easy match against Ukraine. IMO Ukraine got far away in this WC. You can't have a player in an excellent level (Schevelkjdsfjhcho o whatever his name is written  ) and 10 more that are below :|
tomorrow more great matches... now to wait
Shame that the Argentinian players couldn't accept defeat.
Off to watch the England match now. THis could be painful viewing unless England step up their play, instead of waiting until the second half to score

Despicable game by Portugal as usual, but England needs to be able to control themselves in big games. Either way they were both colonizers of India and as such i hate them both. If there was any way for both of them to lose, that would have been the perfect ending. :D

PORTUGAL !!!!! :o
I'm completely tired of seeing those motherfuckin hooligans causing trouble. I saw a report some minutes ago, and some portuguese fans who were seeing the game in a fan area, in Germany, had to be isolated because the english fans wanted to beat them. A portuguese fan was hit by a stone thrown by an english.
In every international football competition, the english fans are the only ones who cause trouble. If they don't have another fans to fight with, they try to fight with the police.
I don't have anything against the english team, but sometimes I like to see them loose just because of those damn hooligans.
Hooligans :bye:
English football hooligans are a negative side to our football support - they are (perhaps) representative of a poorly civilised British mob.
So - England lose with two of the worst ever penalties from Gerrad and Lampard.
Rooney was too excitable, trying to win the ball in an impossible situation, then stepping on the other players balls  He's a kid. And anway, watch the replays, even if he had won the ball - he had nowhere to put it. Pointless.
Beckham was poor too. he needed to come off, as he's been riding on the wave of past glories - really useless IMO. Lennon did a much better job of attacking the Portugese.
England bow out of the World Cup. The writing was on the wall from the first game...

my guess is that 80% of all "progol" and bets went to the trash... just like mine
brazil showed that they weren't united as a team. The defense again looked weak.
Ronaldihno had a poor WC because he had an opponent stuck to him at all times. Also his teammates NEVER moved to have a clear position for a pass.
He has real teammates in Barza, not the unmoveable chump like Ronaldo that only waited for a good pass to score....
well... Europe for the Europeans
Well... France derserved to win the game. They played a far better game with show a from Zidane!
Overall, i think this was good for the brazillian team to see that having a lot of exellent players doesn't mean always victory. :(

Thats exactly what i mean when i said it was a despicable game, Ronin. maniche, figo, ronaldo and others all took blatant dives. I don't think Ronaldo caused Rooney to go off, that was a dirty play and he deserved to get sent off, but Portugal flat out cheated. There's all kinds of bs about fair play and all, but as soon as that first whistle blows, all the Portuguese are ready to hit the deck. I don't know how you can cheer on a team where everyone is ready to fall down at the first sign of a strong breeze.

Finale ...
Not a great victory but still a victory, the Portuguese could have scored several times, especially at the end of the match, as the French litteraly forgot to attack and only defended after a doubtful penalty :|
Where the heck was Trezeguet :?
He should've played instead of Saha, had never heard of that player before the world cup, fortunately he got his second yellow and won't be playing on sunday.
I hope they'll be able to create more opportunities against Italy, fingers crossed; I guess they'll want to take revenge after that Euro 2000 final with Wiltord's goal at the very end of the match.

a final that wasn't in the books. France started in a poor manner, but managed to get the goals when they needed them.
Portugal had the chance, but as it seems, they don't have the "ultimate" forward that can score goals at any time.

I have to agree, french attack tonight was inexistant, Domenech wanted to keep the same team as the spanich and brasilian party...
But against Portugal (great team) it did not work. Portugal has a great team, i think italian are not as good as Portugese, so, now france is on final, i can believe on a victory.

I hope you're joking about the ref. Henry did look like he went down a little easy, but he was hit. Which is more than i can say for Ronaldo, Postiga and Pauleta. Portugal has one of the most talented teams in the world, but its sickening to watch them stop, drop and roll. Maniche is a fantastic player, wonder if he'll get playing time next year. Hopefully Barthez will not be the death of France and yes, they need to throw Trezeguet in there as well. What happened to Deco too? Nowhere to be seen in the second half. France did not play well and probably did not deserve to win, luckily we've seen the end of "Greg Louganis" Ronaldo and the rest of the Portuguese synchronized diving team. Unfortunately its the end of Figo. Great International career, he's still great. Zidane and Riberry were outstanding. Hopefully the final will be a good one.

Ricardo hit the leg of Herry, this is right, but if you look at this video , at the 6/7 second, you see the foot of Henry touch the soil and next, he only show of down for forcing the referee to the penalty. this is my opinion.
That video of BBC doesnt mean nothing, they after losing the game, simply start hate Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese players .... and they only show the fake falls of the portuguese. I dont agree with that type of game, but there was faults (they dont show this two what i talking about, why??) on Cristiano Ronaldo who wasnt signed by the referee, and two criteria at the same game, and this is not right.
Unfortunely i dont find the video of this faults.

Work for the french, the press conferece of the french working too good at this moment, telling about the portuguese diving.... but doesnt work for us.

Ronaldo is a wanker, i especially like his Superman imitation. Unfortunately he appears to have left his cape at home, either that or Thuram had the Kryptonite. Thank god the Portuguese are gone. They may not be the only divers but they are the most proficient. And by the way, Carvalho even out and out admitted that he did clip Henry.

Hell of a game by Schweinsteiger (or however the hell you spell it) on the German side. Two nice goals and an "assist" to Petit LOL.
Nice goal by Portugal too, great cross by Figo and nice header by Gomes.
I wanted to see more from Pauleta other then calling for non-existint fouls and I had hoped Klose wouldve have gotten a goal too.
Ronaldo was still heavily booed by the fans apparently for his diving prowess and his feud with Rooney. Diving ruins the sport IMO. These guys are supposed to be tough yet they get glazed in the calf and go down screaming in agony for 10 seconds then all of the sudden they are fine. Amazing ability to recover from injury it would seem.
Hope to see a good game tomorrow. Im rooting for Zidane and the French.

I was rooting for France (for a change - yes I really am a Brit!!!), but I was more gutted about Zidane. A player I have enjoyed watching for years - to finish like that. I don't exactly feel sorry for him, he knew exactly what he was doing. He does not even have the excuse of being a young, inexperienced player.
A shame, a real shame. :(

Its unbelievable that Zidane got tossed, stupid move on his part. How about Materazzi though, first the penalty, then the goal, then Zidane, then he stepped up and made the penalty. Unbelievable really and more than a little saddening.

i am pretty upset about this game and I hope that ref gets fired for completely going against the rules of calling. if he was blind enough to miss the headbut then he had no right to make the call. COMPLETELY AGAINT FIFA RULES :fist: :fist: :fist: :fist: :fist: :fist:
There are refs constantly watching video feed and make sure the calls are correct. The one that didn't see the headbutt was informed by radio ... pls be more sensible.

Hehe sucks that Ukraine had no luck in the game with Italy.
I mean it should have been a 3:2 game against Ukraine. Or actually if Ukraine did tie at the start of the second half like they should have done it could have been a tottaly different game.
Oh well......
In this sport like any, its not only the skill that counts. you need bucket loads of luck. And Italy had both, except they will always go down as the biggest actors to play the cup.

The rules state that if the ref didnt see it with his own eyes he's not allowed to make a call on the play. The refs monotoring the video feed can only fine the players after the game but dont have an impact on the game as its beeing played.
However it appears that the line ref did see zidane's headbutt and thats the ref that made the call so it was ligitimate.
That being said after following the entire world cup i was pissed that Italy won. They in no way deserved to win that game France was the better team without a doubt. Just a shame that their three best penalty takers left the game before shootouts.

Well when Figo head butted whoever that was, because the reff didnt see it, he never got a card not did he get suspended.
Here however the reff didnt see it initialy and sent him off. Plus that fact that it was done so damn late is just odd. Cards should be taken right away, not 3 minutes after the foul commited.

Italy had the best package: skill, motivation, hard work,.....and .... a little bit of luck (yes no denying that it's needed to win a big tournament when the teams are so close, but when you consider that they struck the ball three times against the post in the semi and the final, you can see that the best that could be said about their luck is that it was not Italy's strong element!), so they deservedely won the world cup!!!

now that i'm nursing a hangover after celebrating all night i'll be reflecting my thought on the final!
well Marco Materazzi (the Nesta stand-in) was the man of the match, taking part in every major event in the match: conceding a questionable penalty, scoring a goal and of curse the incident with Zizou and also being one of the 5 penalty takers!
no one remembers the disqualified goal Luca Toni headed - looking at the replay it seems to have been legit
the french held the ball most of the game but Italy had the better chances
Italy are worthy of the cup they have beaten the germans which wore the best team in this tournament - they played an extra time period with the both germans and the french while france cruised over Portugal in their semi final game explaining why some of the italian were looking a bit tired but in the end but they kept their cool scoring all the 5 penalties!
Forza Azzurri
Forza Italia!!!!

Italy totally deserved it, the penalty was a bad call and the second goal was a tough one, still they won.
I feel bad for Trezeguet, hes a really good player and plays at Juve so I like him, but well, its like when Baggio missed in 94...
Zidane losing his head was bad, I still can't understand it. But we all make mistakes, too bad he did it in the worst moment...

yeah, the reason they cancelled it was because the guy before him, Grosso if I'm not wrong, tried to head the ball an was in offside, so he did participate.

Well done Italy!! The teams that made it to the finals honestly surprised me, both France and Italy didn't look like possible candidates for the title during the group stages. The final was a very entertaining game though, it's a shame about what happened though, such brutal actions should never take place in football. I'm curious what exactly the italian player said to Zidane, the french midfielder isn't one that easily looses his temper. A dissapointing way to finish a admireable career :(

it's like no one here watched a fucking football game before this world cup tournament! diving is part of it!! it's not like with american sports where the referee examens the replay before issuing a call, in football when failing to spot the incident the linesman is all he got; so taking advantage of human error is only logical and none gets too far without doing that

Zidane has now excused his stunt from all the children who watched the game. He says it was wrong, but doesn't regret it, since Materazzi was insulting his mother and sister. Also he said that always the one who reacts gets punished, but never the one who teases and that's not fair.

I didn't recall anywhere in the upbringing of this sport that insults at the level of Materazzi should be condoned because it is supposedly "part of the sport". LOL, after watching videos of Materazzi fouls during the years, I even wonder if that guy should even be play ever again. Seldomly seen such a dirty player. Not good for the sport.
Zidane should never have done what he did, but Materazzi should've STFU and backed down. Zizou is right on that part.
BTW, LOL@anyone thinking the Malouda penalty was a dive. You can clearly see when Materazzi (not Zambrotta) is trying to hold back, his foot does touch Malouda's and get him to fall. He was simply too late --> genuine penalty.

Dude insults aren't officialy part of the game, but they're there... Zidane being 34 years old must know that. Why is he right on that part ? cause he couldn't take it and did something wrong ? and now hes acting like a cry baby so he remains seen as the good guy ? BS
Have you seen all the agressions Zidane has done ?? stepping on a player, kicks, etc, etc... of course all this on purpose, hes no Mr. good...
my bias isn't getting in the way, I see things diffrently, I accept that Materazzi insulted Zidane, but Zidane acted stupid and now is trying to fix his fucked up retiring dream game...
When you do something wrong or right is nothing but your fault, Zidane is just looking for an excuse... thats pretty stupid... that makes me even happier that he did what he did and the consecuences it had... now I hope they take away the golden boot or ball or whatever...

Like I said, it doesn't justify Zidane's action, but Materazzi is the most dirty non-sportive football player I've seen in a long time. He should have no place on the pitch as far as I'm concerned. And I know Zidane is far from the cleanest players, and the red card was correct, but insults like those taint the sport. And as far as I see it, Zidane doesn't fix anything. He's not regretting it.
About the golden football, damn FIFA should keep out of it, as the price is based on votes by journalists. FIFA has nothing to do with it.

I've just read that if Materazzi's comments were racist and FIFA is able to prove it Italy may loose the cup. Those are the rules. If it was in the group stages they would have 3 points deducted but in the knockout rounds it is an instant disqualification.

As much as I hate Italy and the way they played football this cup - they dont deserve to lose it over 1 players outrageous calls. Give the single player a 1-2 year ban and show the world that fifa says NO to racism or any harsh comments. That should fuck off Materazzi while Zidane still being punished the way he should.

Ehhmm...FIFA didn't elect anything, as the golden ball is a price given by journalists, and not FIFA officials. The shortlist is drawn up by the FIFA technical committee but the winner is voted for by representatives of the media.
Malouda fell, nothing to overreact there.
I hope the FIFA keeps their hands off the cup, Italy indeed doesn't deserve to loose the title over something like this.

and stop siding with Zidane he's the one to blame, he the one that headbutted Materazzi, remember?!
whatever was said to him it's only words and that's no way to react specially in the world cup final
Materazzi didn't engage in any of his antics during this tournament (despite the red card that he got) so there is not need to blame the guy just because of his tainted past.
when Zidane decided to take action in the way that he did against Materazzi by causing actual physical harm as a respond to verbal exchange which could be considered part of the game
the "best player of the tournament" title should be striped from Zidane and given to the player that was actually the best: Fabio Canavaro !

Which part of my post suggests that I'm siding with Zidane?? I agree, there is no excuse whatsoever for what he did, there is no place for such behaviour in football. A player as experienced as he is should be able to control his nerves and not commit to such stupid actions which may have well cost his country the title. But I have no respect whatsoever for Materazzi, insulting somebody's family is just childish and stupid. FIFA should punish him somehow because I doubt the retard will learn anything from his poor actions.
