Here's the full report of our trip to Anneau du Rhin to attend a trackday of Gumpert

back in March, Hamlet and I met the guys from Gumpert at the Geneva carshow (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38783), where we had an interesting chat about this awesome car. The shape of the car may not be the most elegant and coolest, but the performance figures are impressive. Check gumpert.de for more details.
While looking at the Apollo nicely placed at the stand, we came to the conclusion that to make our mind about this supercar, we have to see it live... to hear the noise... to get a feeling of the potential of that car :P
well, we ended up with a invitation to join the next trackday of Gumpert in April.
That specific day, we started in Zürich, the weather was not that promising...
The Gumpert crew rented the Anneau-du-Rhin racetrack in France http://www.anneau-du-rhin.com (~45min from the swiss border, damn hard to find, especially with a fully modified Speedster  ... new rims, new semi-slicks, new exhaust, spring modifications ongoing, but no GPS system  j/k )

Arriving at the racetrack, we could first hear, then see the white Apollo on the track. this car looked amazing on salegosse's and dani's pictures, but in metal, just insane

After 2 or 3 laps, the car came back to the temporary garage, passing the parking like an arriving jetfighter. Mr Gumpert already new about the 2 carnuts comming from Zürich, he was quite busy with some customers, but we were free to move around the garage, supercool. Thanks again!
The goal of this trackday was to give potential customers the chance to testdrive the car. The white one is the Gumpert testccar, the orange one was sold already. Unfortunately they detected a problem in the transmission, ... after a long discussion, it was clear that no more laps were possible with that car :? noooooooo! . Here, I have to mention that this specific part of the drive shaft was a bought-in-part which obviously wasn't strong enough to transmit the power
This break gave us the possibility to make a indepth photoshooting with the orange car .
At lunch time it was time to go back for us, because lots of work was waiting for us .... but we couldn't leave without seeing more trackaction ... and the customers were waiting too - finally Mr. Gumpert took the orange car for the further testdrives. Since this car was sold, it wasn't suppose to drive around on the track. As you can see in the video, the drivers didn't push the car, changed gear before the turbos came :bah: but still impressive how this biest comes around the track
leaving the scene, it started raining

Well, enough said, enjoy the pictures !

Here's a short video compilation I made during 3 or 4 laps, as mentioned before they didn't push that hard :bah:, but some blocking tyres, passing by and engine sound is on tape :D
GUMPERt APOLLO on TRACK (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L3BM2ST4)

There is some "More to come" form this trip - some privat cars were driving around the track when the Apollo was in the garage .... and not to forget the Ferrari/Maserati/ModenaCar dealership located at the racetrack.

WOW!!! What a report.....

I'm not a big fan of this car, I think it's horrible, but as a trackcar it's quite cool, specially when I hear that turbo sound

The pictures are great. Can't wait for the other ones 8)

Thanks a lot!!

As StMoritzer said, this was a very special and cool day! We could not go back to work and finally staid the complete day there, but that was a good idea since we could see that rare car on the track... 8)

A special thank to Mr Gumpert and his team that have been really friendly and let us go around the all day! :good:

Very nice report - thank you guys for sharing! the car looks really great, especially the orange one with the black rims.... i cannot rembember that i've seen this car at geneva motorshow.... but reading this report, watching the movie and the pics you guys made it seems that this is a pure driving machine, pure fun on a track like anneau du rhin.

I really love Anneau du Rhin, an absolute fabulous racetrack. i'll be there in june for racing with the porsche. and as stmoritzer wrote, the ferrari/maserati garage dealer offers always some nice sightings there. and also some close motorsport clubs are often at the track too. last time i was there porsche club d' alsace was there with a lot of porsches.
looking forward to see the rest of the pics...

Sweet pictures and a nice little vid clip too. Looks like it was an impressively good day at the track and I'm quite jealous. I've always suspected the Apollo's styling a bit, it's very function-oriented...but I've never found it all that attractive. Now with the road version I think the Gumpert people have started to hit the head of the nail...it's just a little bit more discreet than the track-version, but only a bit, and all that much more attractive for it. Sounds good too :-)

WOW! What an amazing opprotunity/experience!!!

Amazing pics by the way.. Absolutely beautiful shots of that beast like machine.

You really should of pretended to be a "potential customer" and gotten yourselves a test drive!

, don't think they would have believed us to be potential customers , but to drive one of these Apollos must be amazing :P

Thank you so much stmoritzer & hamlet for your great report event and for your awesome pictures & video about the Gumpert Apollo, one of my favorite supercar. http://www.rs6.com/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Being a big fan of Audi I follow the development of this supercar since the beginning. Roland Gumpert was an instrumental employee of Audi’s on the racing side of things, managing the Motorsport Department during the ‘70s and ‘80s where he won 4 Rally World Championship titles. Another name not new to Audiphiles is Gumpert partner and Audi tuning meister and owner of MTM, Roland Mayer. This is why sometimes I call it again the MTM Apollo. I very like the fact this car looks like a fighter jet and has a 650-hp biturbo engine from the Audi RS6.

Thanks again guys !

Cheers

Thank you so much stmoritzer & hamlet for your great report event and for your awesome pictures & video about the Gumpert Apollo, one of my favorite supercar. http://www.rs6.com/smilies/thumbsup.gif

that is one of my favorite as well, especially since it is also pretty rare and is different from all other supercars. Mr Gumpert is really a nice person and being allowed to attend such a track test was a privilege we really apreciated.

Hope we can have the opportunity to see it again... 8)
