Since such pics are often overlooked when posted between car pics, here they are..

It's Gstaad as seen from the mountain above. That light lasted probably 2 minutes! I was lucky!

Sadly no, because all my skiing equipment is in St.Moritz where we always go for the winter :?

thats a shame, but St Moritz is beautiful....I went there a few times when I was younger and still remember the beautiful scenery. :D

Pretty difficult to compare Gstaad with St.Moritz. St.Moritz, while still beeing the ideal place for wealthy ppl to spend their holydays, is more and more "brutalized".. now, this is not the right term, but well.. My family bought the appartment we have there the same year I was born, 1979.. back then St.Moritz was much smaller and less "famous" than it is today. I still remember, 10 or so years ago, it was totally different.. not as small and cozy as Gstaad is, but sure different than today. Today it is often overcrowded, and spreading bigger and bigger every year. Now I think legislation is less permissive toward wild construction policies, but sadly the landscape is already ruined by big buildings wich have nothing to do with a mountain village!
Now of course, I don't belong to a royal family or whatever, and don't want to sound snob at all :D
Gstaad is smaller and more "high end" withouth a shade of a doubt.. and well.. probably too high actually to be affordable for "normal" ppl.
Still, the 4 big names if you have lot of money to spend during winter are St.moritz, Gstaad, Verbier and Zermat IMO.

If you are interested in pure skiing, St.Moritz beats Gstaad, BY FAR :D

Stunning picture, i love the amazing motion range in the background, and how the cloud just pierces through the cloud.
such a beautiful valley aswell, with perfect white chrisp snow lining the ground.
and the brown houses look amazing with a thin white on top of them!

the bottom left what's that massive castle looking thing? it looks stunning, wondered if you had any pictures of that!

well done, amazing photo!

personally I had never the chance to go to Gstaad yet. The village looks very nice, ike Zermatt ( wooden houses with angular roofs).
St.Moritz is not a nice village to look at and it never was compared to Gstaad in this content. There are impressive hotels and beautiful villas in St.Moritz but there are also several big houses with flat roofs which are not that nice.

I found one picture similar to the above posted... to "compare"

http://img157.exs.cx/img157/5319/stmoritzevening4zn.th.jpg (http://img157.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img157&image=stmoritzevening4zn.jpg)

so Gstaad wins !!

but ...small advertisment to bring St.Moritz in front ...
see some pictures in
http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21124

and one more

http://img157.exs.cx/img157/1585/muottasoverviewengadin2ha.th.jpg (http://img157.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img157&image=muottasoverviewengadin2ha.jpg)

(pictures taken from http://www.bergbahnenengadin.ch/021stm_040400_de.htm )

As a ski resort, St.Moritz and the Engadin beats Gstaad and almost every other ski resort in the world by far, I agree to TT opinion above
:!: please understand me right, I'm not talking of the High Society, the "rich" and "famous" people in St.M, the "Champagne-air", the snobs....
I'm a "standard" working-guy which can afford a Seat Ibiza 1.4l Sport

here are the reasons why St.Moritz is that good for skiing
1.) the sun is shining very often
2.) the view (see post)
3.) various slopes, wide ones, steep ones (350km in total)
3.) modern chairlifts and mountain railways (for the 2003 Ski World Championship, they invested a lot of money in the infrastructure)

Have a nice day and keep dreaming of the sun :D ( it's a foggy day in Zürich)

HAHA, this topic is turning into a Swiss ski resorts advertising :D and nice to see I am not alone with my opinion about St.Moritz! ;)
You know another thing missing in Gstaad? A lake! St.Moritz has one, and several others in the region, just some minutes away by car, and to walk on the ice during winter, or simply around it during summer is very nice!

agree !
Have you ever been ice skating on the frozen lake, on the "blakc-ice" ?

TT

I don't like skating LOL, so the answer is no :) even if I am not 80 years old, I prefer a good old walk :D
