Win XP User Profile Prob...a little help please :-)

Basically a while ago when i logged on to my computer it said it could not load my user profile and wiped all my settings , background and some icons disappeared etc... Not a problem i thought i'll just create another account cos the other one is corrupt. All was fine for several weeks then last night I shut my laptop down instead of hibenating it and the problem happened again. While its not a major problem i wondered if anyone had any idea what could cause this problem to happen? :? (Me know nothing :P )

u could try installin sp1 & sp2 if u already haven't and see if that fixes it, along with any other windows updates there are available

I think i'm up to date but i'll check...... *EDIT* looks like i don't have SP2 by the looks of it despite setting win update going the moment i got back online i assumed it would keep me up to date :?

Download Norton Ghost, and take a backup of the user settings, so if the problem happens again, you just recover all your settings, and it looks like normal :D

microsoft has temporarily disabled windowsupdate from automatically downloading sp2 because many businesses need to update their networks to handle it as it has a lot of compatability issues

Ahh that explains it, i hope i don't cause any more probs installing it :lol:

run all the virus software/spyware software then...
de-frag the computer
run command first then ...

run: chkdsk
on the hdd in question
if problems exist you can
run: recover


any questions, in the command prompt just
run: help chkdsk
run: help recover
etc.
hope this helps, its time consuming
