very nice liking that Enzo from Tamiya what did you pay?
I may have to post mine up now.

TT
06-11-2004, 05:43 PM
For the model alone? It was 60 Swiss Francs.. a bit less than 50 USD at the moment.. then you have to add for the various colors needed.

T-Bird

well worth it. no matter how much I like Die cast quality and what not I love the satisfaction of knowing I made it myself. sadly I have about four I need to make first though.

Well, now I'm not sure, but I think on Tamya's boxes or instructions there is something about the min required age for such item and it's not far away from 9 I think... i always wondered how somebody that young can have the patience to focus more than 2 millisecond on such task, but maybe somebody actually can :D

TT that enzo is phenominal! great work. ive gotta sit down and finish my tamiya 360 i bought last august. damn im so lazy heheh i have the cabin complete and the drivetrain attached the the main structure, its gettin there but i need to buy more paints, and i have shaky hands, so i dunno if this kinda thing is for me. But back on topic, nice collection and great work on the enzo. keep up the good work building your own models, as u did a fantastic job on the enzo

TT
06-11-2004, 08:11 PM
There are some details on the Enzo that sadly are not perfect at all.. like the engine cover not closing as it should... :P but I'm happy since it's definitely NOT my stuff to build models ;)

06-11-2004, 08:15 PM

Although i think your enzo needs an interior vacuum ;)

Nice work on the Enzo. I always find myself rushing models - and not finishing them of course.

tt - just in case you wanna know, your GT40 is made by Beanstalk.....they have exclusive rights to make the GT40 diecast.

TT
06-15-2004, 07:32 PM
Beside the fact it is a Ford GT ;) and not GT40 :P, thanks :D it was difficult to tell since it has Ford writings allover the box as if they didn't want to let us know who did it :D
Of course I could have checked the underbody as I just did LOL.. but who the hell is that Beanstalk Group? never heard about them and the quality is quite good!

Vansquish
06-16-2004, 12:02 PM
Beanstalk is also in charge of the 1:18 scale James Bond models of the Vanquish, XKR, and Thunderbird...I believe they also produce the 2002/3 Mustang coupe and convertible concepts...and yes, the quality is quite good on all the ones I've seen at a pretty damned good price too hehe.

Yes I saw the new Mustangs for sale here in the same box, full of Ford badges ;)

Yup yup...the cars can also be bought in kit form...that's how I built my GT last week...I got the Yellow one...it kind of goes with the Exoto Ford GT40 Mk2 that I have.

All of them are die cast models I didn't built but bought as they are (beside the 1:24 Enzo) in a store, the Murcielago roadster is the cocenpt, not the final version, I bought it a couple of years back I think. (it's an Autoart)

Cool, TT. Red Line models seems very good. I think they're quite succesful in filling the gap between Minichamps/Ixo etc. and BBR/MR. I hope they'll be releasing other models soon! Look out for Looksmart models as well. They're in the same class. If I remember correctly, Looksmart is a sub-brand of MR.

Yes I agree, they are gorgeous! They also have a couple of race cars (550 and 360) and the Scaglietti here at "my" store... all priced as CS and Enzo... and sadly I never saw Looksmart models around...
but I saw a new Minichamps line that turned me on :D matte black cars!! They had a Z4, a Boxster, a Smart roadster and a couple more.. quite interesting! :D

Another nice piece of info for those that didn't know already: the 'R' in BBR and MR stands for Reali, which is the surname of the owners of the model car factories. They are brothers. :D

TT
09-22-2004, 10:16 AM
Uhm.. some quick advices for scale models pics:

- take pics outside with natural light when possible. You won't be able to reproduce so much light inside w/o a professional set up
- use higher "F" setting to have everything in focus (in my previous pics F was set at 2.8 instead of 8 and you can see the difference)
- put your camera on a tripod and use a remote control or timer, so you won't touch it at all when the shutter will be activated

That's it :) you would probably need to use the macro feature on your camera if you go pretty close to the model too.

Of course it is nice to use a professional set up as MIHALS does for his models, with proper lights (and a good camera) you can get very good results even inside :)

Very nice collection there TT:)

I also have that Carrera GT model you got :)

Metallic paint is soposedly from a real car and it dosnt exactly work in somthing one 18th the size ay?

09-23-2004, 04:43 AM
Yes you are right, in some cases, especially in 1:43 (the CGT is a 1:43, not 1:18), the paint quality, even on autoart or such is not that good...

The worst one in my collection is this:

I couldn't help myself today though, went into a model shop and came out with a 1:18 Maisto Murcielago. :D
How do you keep your models stored TT, do you have them all in a large display case or something? A picture of your entire collection would be nice. :)

Yep that's why I try not to buy too many 1:18: no little display boxes, you have to buy them as extra and the cost a lot.. and also because of the lack of space :D

Hell! Today I was in Como, Italy and just checked out a small scale models store there... I am still speechless! I never saw soooo many BBR, MR and similar models in the same place.. easily HUNDREADS of them!! I almost bought an MR Diablo VT Roadster, orange, but it was 190 Euro LOL! The I saw the BBR 360CS, 220 Euro so i had to avoid that area of the store, but it was CRAZY! I ended up adding 2 Miuras to my collection LOL.. the marvellous 1:18 Autoart SV (Millenium edition), in yellow, and an 1:43 Minichamps (azzurro)... I'm sure I could have spend at least 10000 euro and only buy like 1% of what I NEED!!!
Luckily I also got a nice 512 BB at the newstand for some 10 Euros the other day..

Pics will follow when I will be back home.. hopefully soon!

Uhm.. two new babies came today.. I was in Geneva for some car pics and found a scale model store I never saw.. very very nice!

This is quite a find, a Pagani Zonda Roadster! It is a 1:43 as most of the time with me, and done by Spark Model. It costs a bit more than a Minichamps or Autoart but it's not bad at all.. some details could be better, but well worth the money!

http://img91.exs.cx/img91/3230/PaganiZondaS01.jpg
http://img91.exs.cx/img91/1337/PaganiZondaRoadster02.jpg

And this was just a bonus since I noticed it while paying.. I am not a big fan of the SLR, but in black it rocks! By Minichamps, 1:43 obviously

I finally picked up the E30 I reserved last time (Autoart, Millenium edition, 1:18)... and WOW, the Miura in the Millenium collection is already top notch, but this one manages to do even better!

I never saw a scale model with its steering wheel actually doing some 3 turns lock to lock.. maybe not 3, closer to two, but well, a lot of degrees!!!!!! Like the Miura it hasn't "sticky" tires bt they are "softer", like if really inflated and they deform a tiny little bit when you put the car down or press on it!

Details is astonishing of course, the only thing I noticed about cars with some sort of cloth/fabric inside like the Millenium Autoart is that it generate dust INSIDE the car and it's VERY hard, read impossible, to remove it proprely

Anyway, here are the (a bit crappy since I need to play GTA LOL) pics

nice pics TT, but why the black background it makes the lines of the car disapear......

I always tought light backround for dark cars and dark background for light cars.......makes it stand out more....still great pics of a great model.....and thats two things I dont got.........

Well you are right, but how can you tell if red is light or dark? :D it's right in the middle :P

Oh and BTW, not sure I have a big white cardboard around :P

nice work TT....look very professional. :D
Any tips to help me take nice pics like that of my models...please?
What did you use as the background (the black area)?

TT
11-25-2004, 08:42 AM
First of all, you should ask to MIHALS maybe ;) but he uses more professional material than me :P

For this new set, for the ground I used that wood used for model planes for instance.. you know, the one that is VERY light.. "balsa" in italian... but you barely notice it is wood in the pics LOL
the background is a simply black A1 cardboard :)

The most important part is to use some good light. Either natural one (not easy though to have the good amount and not too much), or artificial lights, in that case it is always better because you can move them around while the sun does whatever he wants :D you just need enough light and VERY important, the camera has to be on a tripod or standing on the ground.. anyway not handheld.. I always use the timer, so I can be sure it is completely immobile :)

The price was 58 CHF, that's around 26 GBP, 38 EUR or 46 USD at today's exchange rate... it's just 8 CHF more than the regular Minichamps or Autoart 1:43 to give an idea.
Quality is very good, Minichamps level basically.. I'd really like to know who does this model :?

TT, I know how much you like to take pictures so could you please post a couple of pics of the Ford GT's interior and engine bay for me? :)
I am planning to buy one in the near future, but it will be online (since the local shops don't have it) so I can only see one picture of it in the box but no details.
What are you impressions on the models detail/quality?

TT
01-09-2005, 06:44 AM
Well, I actually already have a couple of pics taken with the old camera when I bought the model.. not to quality but maybe enough. Do you want me to take bigger, better pics?

http://img6.exs.cx/img6/656/fordgt070sb.th.jpg (http://img6.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img6&image=fordgt070sb.jpg) http://img6.exs.cx/img6/6015/fordgt082cw.th.jpg (http://img6.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img6&image=fordgt082cw.jpg)

Thanks, they are big enough - I just wanted a rough idea of what it looks like on the inside :D

You couldn't resist buying some more models, could you? They look great, considering the price! At the model fair I saw a Herpa F40 for 10 euros and I thought you'd be interested, but the model wasn't in top condition.

I wouldn't advise you to buy the Red Line F430. I was at the car model fair this saturday and at first sight they look beautiful, but if you look a bit longer it's faulty. The roofline is too high IMO and distorts the proportions of the car when you look at it from the side. The rear lights are too small as well. They don't fill up the cutouts in the bodywork properly. The rear lights are supposed to stick out from the top a little and in the model they don't. I was rather disappointed with it.
If you do want to buy it, take a look at the F430 from LookSmart, which costs about the same as the Red Line and it looked identical to me (including the mistakes I mentioned above). Only difference is, LookSmart offers two more colours than red and yellow. It's also available in titanium and blue metallic. I liked it in those colours. http://www.looksmartmodels.com/eng/news.asp

BTW, I bought the red 1/43 Jota SVR by Kyosho. I think you have it as well. It's a great model!

Uhm.. our 288 GTO actually differs in various details like the band on the windscreen or the front bumper, so I don't think they are the same.

At first I thought yours where the Fabbri Editore ones (for Italy at least), but not so sure.

How much do you pay for them BTW? Around 10 € each I think..

IXO just got the rights for all the Ferrari and of course they sell them for the usual 35-40 €, so I doubt they would accept to work with a newstand's collection at the same time.
