Thats pretty damn scary to think about it colapsing under pressure. I bet the FEA analysis on the structure was insane...

They have a 20 mile "bridge" that has multiple tunnel parts just like this that crosses the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia... Which I had no clue it opened in 1964..

Been over it a couple times goin to Viriginia beach many years back..

Drove back and forth on that bridge this summer.

I can tell you one thing. I got a feeling of deja vu when I drove to Sweden. It was almost midnight, and on each side of the bridge, these huuuugely tall pillars were illuminated with a greenish light. It was like something right out of Lord of the Rings on the 2nd or 3rd film when Gollum is bringing the two hobbits to climb up a mountain side and a greenish castle lay before them.

I'd have loved to take photos, but I was driving and it wasn't possible =(

I strongly suggest it for the experience, it really is something. Too bad the tolls on the bridge were kinda high.

I don't understand why they didn't just tunnel it all??

A tunnel under water is nothing new!

Not a matter making a tunnel, matter of making something special and different!

Because it is really expensive to build an underwater tunnel as opposed to a bridge. And the tunnel probobly goes really deep if there are "ships" going over it.

It’s called Øresundsbroen.
The waters between Denmark and Sweden are called “Øresund”, and bridge in Danish is “bro”. When you putt these two words together it becomes Øresundsbroen.
