Default rider down

well today I went to my first so cal group ride of 10 or more ppl... I think there were 15 ppl today. And all was well until 1 of our guys got a little too close to the DY as someone comming in the opposite direction was also too close to the DY and they clipped and disaster struck. Everyone is ok, the guy from our group walked it off fine, and the lady that was the other person involved, complained of a broken leg, but when the paramedics came, they didnt see anything wrong. They were both on bikes, both going at least 50mph, and were both VERY lucky. The lady was still airlifted out.. idk why. Well here are some pics...

you can see me standing there with the red/white leathers. where I was standing is where his bike ended up you can see the oil on the road
from his bike sliding, and in the distance, where I am looking, you can see the paramedics working on the lady where she landed

DY = double yellow line... line that divides the street, where you CANNOT pass.

Glad to hear everyone is ok! Besides the helmet can you tell me more about the gear which saved your friend from ending up as a stain on the pavement?

seeing that reminds me of a bike wreck i saw maybe a month ago. Some how the guy riding got thrown up on the lane divider (big concret thingy) and only had a helmet. Blood was pouring out of his helmet. I felt so bad. There was nothing that i could do. I am not sure if he died or not.
