Photoshop help: Layer masks; and raw images

its amazing what you can do with Raw images that simply aren't possible with jpg.... one thing is to bring out the sky while also having a fully visible viewing area....


but well, of the few i've done, this one the left and right sides of the chimney look more unnatural.. some red and blue tint

.... im guessing its because of the lens (the stock 18-55 EFS)

any idea PS people? (or otherwise)

BTW.... if i say so myself.... these are going to be the best Vector photos since the car was still in production

Havnt tried out RAW pics myself. I've seen tutorials bout them. Its amazing indeed.

I dont see the red and blue tint on corners you talk about? If they bother you, you can always crop the image (reduce 10 pixels from each corner)?

yeah, i just posted a quick dirty edit.... but the bit o time spent trying to mix the "faux lower exposure sky" with the normal exposure building/car

thats why the color isn't exactly spectacular.

unfortuantely not what i'm looking for... hopefully you can see what im talking about in the higher res pic

i keep forgetting that photolocker.net resizes the images even smaller

There's some red fringing around the chimney that's due to using a cheaper lens. You can also see it around the sidewindow of the car. This mostly can easily be fixed in Adobe Camera RAW.

You could try to feather the selection before making the layermask, or apply a slight blur to the layer mask itself, although that could give a slight halo around the chimneys.. Also, burning the eges of the chimneys a little could help.

I think Martijn already answered the question and anyway I couldn't help more than this, but I'd like to point out you shouldn't forget to sharpen it at the end a little bit because at both 1024 and 1600 isn't kinda not really there yet as far as sharpness is concerned and if you aim at posting the best W8 pics ever, you can't have them blurry

quick and dirty = not taking much time to sharpen... just see if there was just an answer about the red/blue effects.

nth, dont know if you've tried it, but Paint Shop Pro X is easy and good to edit imgs on the fly. I use photoshop for more detail, but Paint Shop Pro X does give it colors, reduce noise and all that much faster. Actually, noise reduction on Shop Pro X (I think) is better than Photoshop.
