2004 EUROPEAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP ALFA ROMEO DEFENDS THE TITLE

After winning the 2003 European Touring Car Drivers Championship title with Gabriele Tarquini, Autodelta Squadra Corse, the official Alfa Romeo team, will line up in 2004 with three drivers: past championship winner, Tarquini, Fabrizio Giovanardi, who after a one year break will again race with Alfa Romeo, and the young Brazilian driver, Augusto Farfus, the 2003 European Formula 3000 Champion. These are the drivers who will take the wheel of the new Alfa 156s that replace the cars used last season.

Gabriele Tarquini competed in Formula 1 from 1988 to 1992; in 1993 he began racing for the Alfa Romeo colours. An experience that continued up to 1996 during which time he was a leading driver in the Italian Super Touring Car Championship and the British (winner in 1994), German and International Touring Car Championships. Fabrizio Giovanardi has won two Italian titles (1998 and 1999) and three European titles (2000, 2001 and 2002) with Alfa Romeo. With Augusto Farfus the Autodelta Team opens its doors to up-and-coming talents. The 21-year-old Brazilian was runner-up in the World Kart Championship in 1991. In 2001 he won the European Formula Renault Championship, then in 2002 he made his debut in Formula 3000 (9th in the final standings), while in 2003 he went on to become the champion in this category.

The calendar for the 2004 European Touring Car Championship includes 10 events, each with two races. It will get underway on Sunday, March 28 at Monza.

The Autodelta Team is managed by Monica Sipsz, who has already won the last four European titles and two Italian Championships with Alfa Romeo.

And again in the European Touring Car scene, the Oregon Team will be lining up with three Alfa Romeo 156 GTAs, driven by Andrej Couto (a driver from Macao), Salvatore Tavano (Sicilian, winner of the 2003 Italian Super Production Championship with the Alfa 147) and Austrian, Michele Bartyan.

This car is probably the best looking touring car ever.
Agree. It's really very beautiful! Alfa Romeo's design is always great.

That new nose looks very very sweet, even the road going version with the new design is awesome. My father has a 156 but just the old version (with new engine though) if we waited just 1 month, we've buyed the new one
