Default Fifth Gear - S17E02 - 10th June, 2010 - Discussion

Fast-paced motoring magazine show hosted by Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith. In this episode, Jason heads to the Anglesey Circuit to test a pair of sports coupes, Vicki races from Paris to Monaco in a luxury Italian soft-top, Tiff and Jonny go electric for a trip across England and Jason examines a new British supercar.

This week’s ‘Fifth Gear’ kicks off in typically highoctane fashion with a shoot-out at the Anglesey Circuit. Returning to the spiritual home of the shoot-out, Jason pits a pair of nippy coupes against each other. Which will be faster round the famous Welsh track – Nissan’s new 370Z or the BMW Z4?

Not to be outdone by Jason, Vicki crosses the Channel to test Maserati’s brand new GranCabrio – the Italian manufacturer’s first four-seater cabriolet. The £100,000 supercar boasts an impressive 4.7 litre V8 engine and a top speed of 175mph. But is the machine fast enough to take Vicki from Paris to Monaco before nightfall?

Swapping petrol for electricity, Tiff and Jonny embark on a marathon journey that will test their vehicle – and their patience – to the limit. The pair intend to drive from Newcastle to Portsmouth in an electric car – but are there enough charging points up and down the country to complete the 400-mile journey?

Finally this week, Jason gets his hands on Britain’s newest supercar, the £200,000 Noble M600. The Noble features a Volvo 4.4-litre V8 that delivers up to 650bhp. The powerful engine combined with the lightweight carbon-fibre body gives the M600 a top speed of 225mph, and shifts it from 0-60 in three seconds. In an effort to reach the 200mph mark, Jason takes the car to Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire, home to one of Britain’s longest straights.
