Default 5th Gear - S11 EP4 - 21st May, 2007 - Discussion

Vicki Butler-Henderson makes an unprecedented attempt to hit 200mph in an A1 Grand Prix car. In such a specialised racing car, the engine alone is worth £60,000. So far, the fastest anyone has ever travelled in it is 176mph. Vicki beats that figure with ease to become the fastest ever A1 GP driver – but will she reach the magic 200mph?

‘Phoenix Nights’ and ‘Max and Paddy’ star Paddy McGuinness takes time off from writing his next TV series with Peter Kay to take his motorcycle test. In this first lesson, Paddy does CBT – the Compulsory Basic Training – required of all drivers wishing to take to two wheels. Citing Evel Knievel, Eddie Kidd and ‘Sir Barry of Sheene’ as his inspiration, or “basically anyone who was rubbish and crashed a lot”, Paddy enthusiastically starts his course. However, it is a lot harder than he thinks and he struggles with even basic manoeuvres in the playground training facility. Will he progress enough to actually take to the road and live out his ‘Easy Rider’ fantasies?

Also this week, Tom Ford and Jonny Smith take a look at the seven newest hot hatches on sale to decide which one is best. As they get thrown around the track by resident racing driver Tiff Needell, they start to feel decidedly queasy.

Plus,in regular feature Driven to Destruction, Fifth Gear finds out how fast you can reverse your car before your gearbox explodes...
Is it just me or is FG turning into a motorcycle show?
