Well the problem is the automakers but a lot of it is the Government, they slap so DAMN many regulations on cars that the input costs on the cars go up so much.

Example, when the EU said you have to make cars pedestrian friendly, BMW estimated they had to spend an extra $200 a car in develop just to comply, doesn't sound like much but it adds up. Compound that with all the other crap required it will only make it worse. When the US switched to Low Sulfar Diesel in 2007 the cost of semis went up $10,000 a truck. Just think what will happen when they get the Global Warming Tax on You'd be lucky to even own a car.
