Anyone have experience digging out ingrown toenails?
THis thing is :bad-words: killing me. i just whacked it on my coffee table and nearly put my fist through my computer because it hurt so much. :x I have to walk around all day and it's really uncomfortable. the past two days it's been bleeding during the day. I know i should go to the doctor, but at this point waiting for an appointment is going to drive me up the wall.
has anyone had one of these before? and if you did, did you go after it on your own?
a little help would be appreciated ALOT!

My buddy had one and it just doesn't come out. He had to have surgery on it. Its just day surgery but he said it hurts like fuck. They apparently peel back the skin and then pull out the nail. I don't envy you at all man, you should really go see a doctor. Good luck.

yup me when i had 15 and 17. i had surgery to removed to nail. damned that hurt like hell when they put a needle in your toe, so you won't feel a thing, but even with an anestetic toe you'll feel it.
i feel your pain i had it before so i know how much it hurts.

My big toe was really bothering me one day, and after looking at it, I decided to apply pressure to the skin around it. It ruptured releasing the pus and pressure. After that I cut the nail as in this link http://www.aafp.org/afp/20020615/2547.html (at the time I didn't know that this was the proper procedure).

i was actually looking at that site last night
problem is, i don't have anything to cut it with. i don't think my xacto knife blades are sharp enough.

Use the small scissors on a Swiss army knife (preferred - easier to cut straight) or a big nailclipper, but make sure you cut it straight or it will take longer to heal. BTW the pain gets worse then better

i figured it would hurt more later. unfortunatley i am the one male on the planet that doesn't have a swiss army knife. i also only have a small nail clipper...i'm going to try and slice it with an xacto knife...see if it works.

ohh shit! So thats what I had
I had this not too long ago. I just cracked my nail(close to the skin) using a small nail clipper. Then I pulled it out of the skin. Then I had to cut it off...did that using a nail clipper again
It was a pleasent experiance, but its no dentist appointment thats for sure.

It's always funny when you know someone with a ingrown nail... specially if you had one and suffered a LOT with that awful thing
Go to a doctor... sometimes they don't have waiting lists. I went twice and they never gave me a shot to put anesthetic, only a small cotton ball with some liquid.
Sometimes you only make it worse, and leave a little tiny bit of the nail that is growing more into the flesh

That is fucking hilarious.
I've had a "ingrown" toenail before but it wasn't bad. I fixed it myself with a nail clipper and a Swiss Army knife.
