5th Gear : S9 EP12 : 17th July, 2006 - Discussion
When Jason tests the brand-new £100,000 Porsche 911 Turbo, there’s more riding on it than normal… because Jason has actually put down a deposit without ever having sat in it! The car will do 192mph, has four-wheel drive, twin turbos and a host of sophisticated electronic controls – but can it really be worth £40,000 more than a standard 911?
Meanwhile, Vicki investigates the dangers of tyres with worn tread. With a neck-snapping 70mph crash test involving live crash test dummies, we see how even road-legal tyres can let you down in wet conditions – and reveal what can be done to prevent the worst happening.
Quad bikes have earned quite a reputation in a short space of time – Rik Mayall and Ozzy Osbourne have both been involved in serious accidents after falling off. Quads were recently made road-legal, so we make Tom take his test, then send him out on the world’s most expensive Quad – a £25,000 racing quad bike that accelerates like a supercar. It’ll all end in tears…
Jon Bentley is testing a rather safer piece of kit – the £5,500 Bang and Olufsen stereo fitted to the Audi A8. Will he be able to tell the difference in sound quality compared to a standard car’s hi-fi?
Pick-up trucks have never been so popular – there’s a waiting list on many models. But which pick-up is best? We take a Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara (complete with optional tent erected in the load bay) racing off-road to decide.
And finally, Fifth Gear always prides itself on the quality of its presenters’ driving . But there’s a weak link in the chain… and today we put that right. Tom receives some expert tuition from Tiff in a Lamborghini Gallardo – learning how to lap quickly and powerslide like the best of them.

The 911 part sounds great. I thought that Jason talked about buying an F430. Maybe he wants both.

Yes it is Ellen, and there is a nice GT3 RS next to it. Did you spot this one?

nope didnt spot it but i saw the same car at the sole Porsche dealer the other day.
the store behind the Carrera GT, 911 & F430 (out of frame) is owned by a friend of mine. the place is about 5 clicks away from the house and about a click away from the store.

He was going to, but it turned out to cost too much in the end so he let it go. A 997 Turbo seems a lot more likely since it's nearly half the price of an F430 haha.
