Cheap/good digi camera?
 

To make pix and so it will not cost too much? Not a pro one, just simple boxy that makes the job.

I saw today they sell some Olympics from price 100 Euro to 450. The cheapest ones ofcourse are not good, but what camera you use? Can you post pix you made with it to see quality and a pic of camera so I can see it?(just take a pic of it in the mirror :wink:)

For 100 Euro sorry but you can't buy a "good" camera.. just a "cheap" one...

Chep out www.dpreview.com for some good reviews and start looking around.

Important is to have at least 4 MP IMO today... would be "stupid" to buy a 2 MP..
then, do you want a big one or an ultraslim one? Zoom (digi zoom only is crap)?

it's good but not cheap. and if you want a compact one, forget such models ;)

Sadly I never keep the original files, but here are some sample of the quality just in case (max res you can have with an 8 MP camera is 3200+ pixels wide).. the biggest one is the Gallardo one, at 2200 pixels wide, and not shoot at the highres quality possible...

But I guess you are searching for something more "simple". Sadly in the good/economic field there are MANY good options and it's even harder to choose. but definitely, read around dpreview.com a lot!

Couldn't have said it any better TT. That 8mp of yours can do wonders. lol amazingly beautiful pictures. I have a 5.1 Sony Cyber Shot...I can image how the pictures would turn out if I had your camera.

But anyways, your best bet is to look into some reviews and invest into a camera that will fit all your needs and budget. But consider a high end camera also. Another thing, you should possibly order a camera online since it is cheaper than buying one instores.

Yep it was hard to buy it... but the positive thing is that I will go on using it for many years.. my previous one, an Olympus C-3000 3.3 MP served me for a LONG time :D

MP basically let you know how many pixels the camera can "create". it's basically heightxwidth. a 3.3 MP can go up to 2048 pixels wide pictures. And as said an 8 MP shoot at 3200+ this also mean less zoom needed in some cases because the pic is bigger and you can crop out the needed part for instance.

There is no "min MP" concept, but to buy a 3 MP or less when the max is around 8 for amateurish cameras is like buying say a 1.5 GHZ processor when 3 GHZ+ are around. It's always better to spend some more and have something "better" that will still be good after a longer period of time ;)

Well its best if you invest in a really good camera anyways. Instead of buying a cheap one and then end up replacing it. if you know what I mean.

I've been looking for a "cheap" and reasonably good digicam for a while. Have to say I'm encountering the same problem... none of the cheap digicams are good enough :(

LOL. I did the same thing...well I was going to get the Nvidia FX5200....but I thought to myself and read some reviews and paid more and got a ATI Radeon 9600 PRO. works great with everything and no problems. good example. :D

i know that bigger MP is bigger size but does it also mean better quality? ive been wondering how do u know it has better quiality cause i was thinking i thin k i care more about quality than 3000 something size pics, i would never use a pic that big...\thanks

Since TT doesnt seem to be around, I'll answer this the best I can and TT can correct me later. What do you mean by better Quality? As in the space on the memory card? Well anyways, if thats what you mean, pictures with higher resolution take up more diskspace because of the size. Although a camera can have a high MP, it doesnt mean that the resolution will always be big. You can always change the size to make it smaller therefore increasing your quantity size. I hope this made sense...if it didnt I'll reword it later. :D

This is one of the reasons the Kodak DX6490 (or current equivalent) is a "good buy" to enter the DigiCam world.

Oh, and the camera has enough bulk to it to giveyou something to hold onto - helping reduce camera shake.

by quality i meant image quality, im a bit confused.. does bigger pics mean better image quelity, cause i dont think so but im not sure, im mean like instead of having the 8MP having a smaller MP camera but with the same image quality as the pics that TT poated...

Quality of image is dependant on number of pixels in the image.

So - an image that is 3800 pixels wide is higher detail that the same picture 1200 pixels wide.

Bought myself a Canon A70 some 10 weeks ago and I'm really pleased with it.
Parked some of the pics I took here:

It is a 3.2 megapixel cam, dead easy to handle with a CF memory cards (16Mb standard) and simple penlight batteries for power (got myself 2 sets 2100 mAh NiMH rechargeables)
Paid EUR 230.00 (imcl VAT) for the A70.

About quality, yes, bigger means better someway :D if you want to print an image shoot at 1600 and one shoot at 3200 wide, I'm sure you will spot the difference. And usually when you resize down a BIG image for the net, the result is better if the image was big. Then of course in most cameras you have also some "quality" setting. I shoot all my pics in "good" not "super good" because this way my 256 MB mem card can handle around 120 pics ;)

personally, sony ones are extremely good value and very reliable from what i've found

I just recently bought myself a Fuji Finepix A607 for $AU 349 (~EUR 204), which has a 3.1MP CCD and 3x optical zoom. However, Fuji uses something it calls a Super CCD and therefore effectively increases the number of MP to around 6 (thats what they say anyway :?). On the highest setting pics are taken in 2816x2120 resolution. The camera is more than good enough for my needs, which are basically just everyday photos (family, scenery) and of course cars.

i got Canon A80 since x-mas
the quality of the picture is pretty damn good IMO
and it features full manual mode.. i think most camera now featuer full manual mode

Very true. I own two sony cameras and bought one recently a brand new 5.1 megapixel for about 350 dollars. almost 400 with a extra 128MB memory stick. I highly recommend Sony. :D

You can't go wrong with a Canon A75 / A80 / A85 - Highly Recommended

I didn't take those photos with a Canon A70 or A80.

The A70 or A80 is a great point and shoot camera, I have bought one for my parents and my girl friends parents and they love it, it's also widely considered on the Net as being great value and superb quality.
